Ancient Hieroglyphics is a language comprised of symbols to help bring together the different languages of what the people spoke at that time. It was used to eliminate the chaos of confusion and the different understandings and comprehensions. I would say it acted like bridges to help bring everyone together.🖤❤💛🤍💙

Bob Brier is an absolutely delightful lecturer! I have just reached the end of the course. Absolutely invaluable detail. Great reference. You feel a little sad when it's over, but if you get the recordings, he says, you can watch it again. He says, I'll see you again soon!

He said symbols are sometimes stacked "to make it look good". I would think it was more about conserving precious writing space. This was literally written in stone after all.

Yesterday I stumbled on the reason we call the oval line around a Pharaoh's name a cartouche (the line represented a rope to the ancient Egyptians). It was coined by the French antiquarians accompanying Napoleon during his ill fated invasion of Egypt. The shape reminded one Frenchman of the silk powder cartridges used in a ship's guns. Hence the French word for cartridge, cartouche. :-)

So Egyptian hieroglyphics are written by sound and not just by picture. Egyptians didn't use letter vowels but drawings that represented vowels and alphabet. A is a vulture drawing, B is a foot, C is a circle with lines, wow, amazing. I will come back to this.Memorizing and drawing to interpret the drawings would be the 🔑.Because each picture represents an alphabet to form words.My memory is good and I love to draw, this is definitely a challenge. I hope I am interpreting this right. I learned a few ancient alphabet today.Thank U for sharing!

Egyptonian hieroglyphs are imagesigns, egyptonians' writing is an imagewriting. Don't have to dekode, transform or explain it. Hungarian language is also imagelanguage thats why the hieroglyphs are readable in hungarian language continouesly. This was János Borbola's huge discovery.

If the animal or bird is facing left like the first example, then the translation should be read from right to left

Walter Picca: Bob Brier Ph.D is wrong. Hieroglyphs do not represents letters in the English alphabet. They do not represent phonetic words or sounds. The 11 hieroglyphs he is referring to do not mean: "The sun is shining [or rising] in the sky."

This is what I read about the heiroglyphs.. it’s long but interesting... 4 1 We must now speak about the Ethiopian writing which is called hieroglyphic among the Egyptians, p97 in order that we may omit nothing in our discussion of their antiquities. Now it is found that the forms of their letters take the shape of animals of every kind, and of the members of the human body, and of implements and especially carpenters' tools; for their writing does not express the intended concept by means of syllables joined one to another, but by means of the significance of the objects which have been copied and by its figurative meaning which has been impressed upon the memory by practice. 2 For instance, they draw the picture of a hawk, a crocodile, a snake, and of the members of the human body - an eye, a hand, a face, and the like. Now the hawk signifies to them everything which happens swiftly, since this animal is practically the swiftest of winged creatures. And the concept portrayed is then transferred, by the appropriate metaphorical transfer, to all swift things and to everything to which swiftness is appropriate, very much as if they had been named. 3 And the crocodile is a symbol of all that is evil, and the eye is the warder of justice and the guardian of the entire body. So, where did the information of what sounds the hieroglyphs represent come from when the civilization and language were dead for over a thousand years?

Ok so it says: "Shine sun sky or rise sun sky", here's my perception of it, the opener could be "they" instead of "the", also the "shine" could be a verb making it "They rise sun in sky" or "They shine sun in sky". Is this an actual hieroglyph by the way?

Coming in completely cold, the images told me ideographically about the sun was shining in the sky. I saw the circle with a dot (the sun) with the squiggly line (shining) and the big ellipse (sky). Scary.

I really know what it means because I can speak the language it's somali language or cutitic language so every picture has a name and they use the first letter to make a sentence go and study the soamli language and the culture so you can be convinced
