Berlin Global Village Public Art Contest: We have 1.5 million Euros for this decolonial Memorial in Berlin. € 750.000 of which is solely for the realisation of this project.

The Berlin Global Village is implementing the new project “Decolonial Memorial” in 2023/24. This involves an open, anonymous and worldwide art competition for the realization of a decolonial memorial sign - an artistic work that deals with decolonization.
The artwork will be placed clearly visible on the forecourt of Berlin Global Village. The competition and the creation of the artwork will be accompanied by an extensive educational program and innovative public relations work on the topic of decolonization. The registration phase for the competition starts on 30.03.2023. It runs until 07.05.2023.

Hi, I am an alumnus of Birmingham City University, Black Studies the first in Europe. As a sociologist and Artist, I am experienced in the de-colonization of the curriculum. I hope this displays some of the mistakes of the past from Africa prior to colonisation. Like the slavery of Europeans from the north Africans and the canibalism and slavery meted out to the people of Africa who couldn't defend themselves from warlike Africans and their often Muslim or tribal leaders. There needs to be a lesson in there about how colonisation stopped these horrific practices amongst people like the Ashanti and the Benin who had society built on slavery. It's important we learn these lessons and the safety brought by colonisation. After all we live in this wonderful safer world thanks to colonisation. We don't want to walk that back now we can all live together happily. Looking forward to seeing these hard truths in the display.
