In one video I saw that you shouldn’t use too many skyscrapers but I know places such as Hong Kong which are dominated by them why could that be and how would you avoid it? - this is just a question I have and maybe a possible video idea. I am studying to be a civil engineer with a focus in transportation, so this is my area of expertise. Most of the information is correct, but I would like to add some comments. -In most cases, turning lanes are a lot longer than this, however in urban areas these short turning lanes are acceptable. -I would add a lot more road textures, such as double yellow lines, double yellow lines with hatches, solid-dashed yellow lines, double white lines, and I would space the hatches further apart. -I would change the yellow road markings in intersections to white road markings in intersections as those are more common in North America, of which I am assuming this city is based. -I would also add 3-D models for raised pavement markers (the reflectors that you see in the road at night), and traffic control equipment, such as traffic barrels, traffic cones, and road closed signs. I would also add 3-D models for traffic lights. Hope this feedback is appreciated!

1:56. Here in MD, typically on bridges or tunnels (Bay Bridge, Fort McHenry Tunnel, Baltimore Harbor Tunnel) The dashed yellow lines indicate reversible traffic lanes, So lanes can be going in opposing directions or the same direction depending on traffic, road work, accidents, etc. For Example, on the westbound span of the bay bridge, they typically have 3 lanes going westbound, however during the summer they frequently run 2 westbound lanes and 1 eastbound lane on the westbound span

As a european guy seeing this and all the rules we all have and just accept being portrayed in a physical medium is kinda weird. Like we don't do yellow lines, all of our lines are white and it's common sense weather or not it's gonna be oncoming traffic on the other side. Or the giant yellow pattern on a crossroad, we just get taught during our driving lesson that we're not allowed (by law btw, not just a do not do this but as in you will get picked up by cops if you do it) to ever park on or near a crossroad (you have to park at least 2 cars length away from a crossroad if parking at the sidewalk and not in a parking space, this never really happens in cities, more a small town thing.) Anyways! Was an interesting watch especially due to that and of course a well made vid as always!

@newcastlets
@newcastlets 3 жыл бұрын
I suggest using trigonometry and geometry for diagonals and curves, especially the Pythagorean Theorem. I think you mean the details, etc. Use online tools, like Google Earth or Google Maps, or go to actual cities to take photos of inspiration depending on your city’s style!
@newcastlets
@newcastlets 3 жыл бұрын
I also believe that height proportions are another topic you are referring to. Taller buildings obviously are closer to downtown, or in special developments. Make sure the base isn’t too thick or too skinny based on the height. The taller a building is, it is pretty much a given that the base will have more complexity, or be larger in scale. It is mostly trial and error. I am sure there are actually proportions you can find, but usually, it is just what looks good! Once again, using Google Earth’s measuring tool to measure buildings will help drastically to help you figure your style’s proportions out! Western European buildings are usually a bit longer, and also a bit wide, Flemish and Dutch buildings are skinny and tall, and not very deep, and American styles like Art Deco, neo-classical, etc. are usually moderately tall, usually taller than the European styles, also in skyscraper proportions, but these are usually wider and longer at the base the taller they are. Victorian-era buildings in the UK are usually longer, and a tad bit wide once again, but usually 3 stories tall, but no taller than 4-5 stories. Modern/60’s-70’s buildings are usually anywhere from 6-60 stories tall, and have either very skinny bases, very long but not very wide bases, or moderately long and wide bases. Usually, 60’s and 70’s buildings fall under category 2, so very long but not wide bases. I would suggest anywhere from 35-65 blocks long for these kinds of bases, and anywhere from 20-35 blocks wide. Usually modern buildings, like the Freedom Tower in NYC, the Merdeka PNB 118 in Kuala Lumpur, and the Shanghai Tower in Shanghai, have category 3 bases, which are moderately long and wide. I would suggest anywhere from 30-45 blocks for these, usually both length and width. And, for category 1’s, like those on Billionaires’ Row in NYC, anywhere from 15-25 blocks wide and long will suit these, or the 15-25 blocks LONG, but 10-20 blocks wide. Hope this helps! :)

The problem is if a city build is to be 1:1 scale with real life, most of the markings cannot be made this way. Since in the examples you showed, the typical road lane is 5-6 blocks wide, whereas it's typically 3-4 meters wide in real life.

one thing that bothers me about all city builders in minecraft is that the scale is off. a block in minecraft is 1m wide. that means a 3m (10-ft) car lane should not exceed three blocks. your lanes are 5m plus a 1m-thick white line. that’s 6m (19-20) ft wide!
