The resiliency of the eagles has been amazing to watch since their nest collapsed on June 16th. Mon & Dad sprung into action making sure the eaglets were safe and no matter where they are located, they are bringing in fish and prey for them to eat!
DNF brings a whole fish to the nest tree and DN18 claims it and learns to eat on a branch for the very first time. This is not an easy skill to master - the eaglet has to balance on the branch, secure the food with its talons and tear off pieces to eat. DN18 is doing a great job for several minutes but then lets go of the fish and it drops to the ground! DN18 did not retrieve it - that is a skill that will be developed in time. But kudos to DN18 for eating its fish for the first time on a branch!
Later we see DNF in the pasture and I believe it is DN18 again on the ground eating - she brought another delivery! Well done Mom! After eating its food, we find both DN17 & DN18 on the root ball stump tree. Now it is bath time in the creek! We see them both bottom dipping and splashing around having fun and doing exactly what eaglets do - nest or no nest! Another milestone is achieved!
There is yet another delivery of furry prey to the root ball stump and DN17 gets it this time and eats. Great job to DN17 for hitting this milestone too! Both parents are staying near to the eaglets during this time of transition which is a testament to the excellent parenting of both Mr North and DNF. The eagle family is thriving and will continue to thrive in the following weeks as they continue to bring food to their offspring until they disperse. Thank you for watching!
