Decorating for Christmas 2020! This year I'm adding red to my Christmas decor and the theme is candy canes. Decorate with me as I make my own version of a DIY Christmas ornament arch that I saw on TikTok (which, by the way, has hundreds of Christmas decoration ideas). I shopped at Target, Home Goods, At Home, and Walmart for the supplies. I had to buy so many ornaments to achieve this look, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

We never had the variety to choose lol. We just threw up Christmas on the tree and had a multi colored star. The only tradition we kept was that each child, when they’re old enough, makes their own ornament to put on the tree. Mine got destroyed in Katrina but we kept the tradition with my nieces

The lights before the garland, not only for the light to shine through but to hide the electrical cord. The 3 ornament cluster look fabulous. You should do that on your tree too. First add the single ones and then fill in gaps throughout

Suggestion- if you can afford to buy at once-over purchase-double or triple decor/lights/garland/bulbs that you think you need-at one time-then after decorate, return what you dont use! This helps with the number of trips to store😁. LOVE LOVE the arch!!! It all looks wonderful!!

One thing I learned as a child is always put your cotton or tree skirt down first in case you drop something breakable. Also, back in the 70's, a department store which I loved did the cluster balls on their beautiful trees in the center of the store so I came home and used wire to do it on my tree. It was very different and unusual for that time. I like your decorating very much and think you have a great talent and beautiful home!! Love the cat too.

I just love Bougie. You should put the big ribbons or the big candy canes on the upstairs Bannister, droop them from off of there. I like that archway reef but that seemed too tedious for me to try.

I literally do an entirely different theme every year 😅 like I'm a mess. Haven't repeated a single theme yet either. My advice, for a 12ft tree, buy the mesh ribbon and stuff it in between each layer to make the tree look more full. Alternative would be to buy 3-5 inch ribbon and make a bow at the top and let the strands cascade down the tree. Ribbon is my favorite decor to add on a tree. Also PICKS. Buy a variety of Christmas picks (I usually use 2 or 3 types). Get as many as your tree is tall (so at least 12 of each). And only using big ornament balls on the tree will also make it look more decadent and full.
