My mom’s family room Christmas tree is always a little bit more relaxed-feeling tree that matches the atmosphere of the room. This is where we gather to watch movies and enjoy the Christmas season, so we want the tree to feel the same. This year, we used a bunch of Shiny Brite vintage ornaments to decorate the entire tree, along with some houses and birds. I hope you enjoy it and feel the festivity of the season with Mom and I!

Thanks for having us over, Mom! This was fun! Your tree looks stunning! Shiny Brights are so classic. I hate to think about the ones that broke over the years. We grew up setting up a Christmas village with little houses from the 1940s that my mother and her dad used to set up long ago. The receipt picks with toppers are such a genius idea! I’m crying as I watch this. My mother loved Christmas. She left us far too young 43 years ago but I miss her so much at this time of year. You are so fortunate to be able to so stuff with your mom. Blessings to all of you.

What a BRILLIANT idea - to store the item you have out year-round, and put it in the Christmas storage box during the holidays. That way when you take down the tree, the year-round item is readily available. Brilliant! Mom's story of putting the lights on the tree with her late husband is spot on. Ahhhh, memories. Love this segment as you spend time together and the story of your grandmother. So sweet

This is really fun played at 1.75 speed. I still remember the horror going home one Christmas only to discover my mother had thrown out all the old tree ornaments because she wanted new. They were all from the 1950s!

I always went to my moms to help with the tree and decorating it was a special time we spent together. Now that she’s no longer here I really miss it but am so grateful for those precious memories!

My Mom bought our first artificial tree when I was in 4th grade. I’m 62. They were just coming out. Each branch was color coded. She studied the decorated look of the tree photo on the box. Then she bought all the decorations that matched and garland. She put it all on layaway. She talked about it for the whole year with anticipation! Finally the day came. My brothers helped figure out how to assemble it. She spent days getting all the lights and decorations on it. When she was done it looked just like the photo on the box. It was truly beautiful!!! Then my oldest brother came home with his small children. My little nephew was just walking and that tree mystified him. Suddenly we heard a smash and crying. Everyone ran to the crash sight and toddlers screams and cries. There on the living room floor lay our Christmas tree over top my nephew age maybe 1 1/2 y/o. Almost all her favorite ornaments were broken!!! She cried!!! It was one of the last years she was able to ever decorate a tree again!! Boy was it beautiful!!! We did get fantastic photos before the crash!!!

Thank you for sharing this special moment . I love that you use vintage ornaments. I put up 10 Christmas trees around my house. Because I have grandma, my childhood, gifted to me and theme ornaments. I just enjoying festive decorating home.🏡We host every year with family, new to the family and friends. The holiday 🌲is for those memories with your love 💕

I love having family time decorating the tree. It’s special and a tradition and gets everyone in the Christmas spirit! However, it is often much easier to put it all together without so much “help”! 😉☺️😊 I tend to tweak for days... if not weeks and that is just accepted by all. 🤷🏻‍♀️😁🥰 My mom has my grandparent’s pretty receipt spike from their old business. She still uses it to keep track of specific receipts. I have to say, I really LOVE them used for a finial collection! I may have to start a collection of my own... of both spikes and finials! 😍🥰😍

I just love your mom tree with all the Shiny Brite ornaments. I have a lot of them that were my mother and grandmothers that I put on our tree each year and my mother had a bird that always had to go on the tree.

So adorable. I love how you are so much like your mom. Collecting, decorating. My teen is at my moms helping her get her tree up fluffed & decorated. She also did our tree. Being in a wheelchair makes putting up a 7 foot tree basically impossible. She does a great job & her & my husband decorate it with the ornaments I pick out so it’s a family thing. We put in vintage Christmas music. Bing is our favorite & have fun getting into the holiday spirit. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas 🎄

I love the tree and the tones of the ornaments. I think the spacing in the branches is key. I have those same Waechtersbach mugs. I got a bunch of the dishes when we were stationed in Germany 35 yrs ago and went to the factory. I also have that same dog door stop!

I started collecting bird ornaments after my daughter was married and I gave her all the ones she loved. I started with a four foot tree and now up to a 7ft. I love the handmade glass bird ornaments.
