“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” That is the whole quote and it rings true in my experience.

Most of the time I'm part of a small to medium crew, like 2 to 3 or sometimes up to 8 people, but nothing bigger. And honestly this is what I prefer. I've tried one-man-banding, and it's just not for me. The amount of multitasking and thinking of everything at once stresses me out even though I can handle it, and it shows in the final product. When I'm part of a crew and can focus on the main task I was hired to do, that's where my work really shines.

I've always run a one man band, I've tried to hire others to help but it always falls through and I end up alone anyway. Most of the gigs I get don't require or don't have the budget for multiple people. Still a small fry haha

There is nothing wrong with that, bro! I would prefer to keep it small. Sometimes, working with other people can take the fun out of it.

I completely agree with this. There is a time / place / project for a larger specialized crew, but I have always preferred working as a one-man-band or with a small crew of skilled generalists. Some of that "do this or that while I get coffee" attitude, can come from folks who are used to working on bigger union jobs where they may not be allowed to touch gear or perform a task that's outside of their department. I have seen this in action and have been reprimanded when, working as a grip, I tried helping the gaffer on a union gig. I was told to stay in my lane. Also, some folks are just unpleasant jerks :) I love your channel dude, Keep it up.

There's definitely a sort of macro skill of understanding what the needs of the current set are in those positions. Larger productions it makes sense to be by the book not just cuz of unions but you need every person to know exactly what everyone else is doing and know they do it well and keep things moving. You start helping and say you put something in a sensible place but the dept head doesnt know where it is because its not where they put it, it holds everything up even if its well meaning. On the reverse, if those guys who are used to that are on a small set they need to recognize that small crews often need people to wear many hats and pick up slack where it's needed instead of just setting up a few stands and then sitting on standby waiting to be told to do something.
