This came out in 1965, right in middle of the British Invasion! Dee Dee Sharp held her own during this period. Great, Dee Dee!

On this day in 1965 {December 15th} Dee Dee Sharp performed "I Really Love You" on the ABC-TV week-day afternoon program, 'Where The Action Is'... At the time "I Really Love You" was at #78 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, that was also it's peak position on the chart and it's seventh and last week on the Top 100... Between 1962 and 1965 the Philadelphia native had nine Top 100 hits; with three making the Top 10 {her biggest hit was "Mashed Potato Time"*, #2 for 2 weeks in 1962}... Besides "Mashed Potato Time", her two other Top 10 records were "Gravy (For My Mash Potatoes) at #9 and "Ride" at #5, and they both also peaked in 1962... Also in 1962 she reached the Top 10 in a duet with Chubby Checker; "Slow Twistin'" peaked at #3... Ms. Sharp, born Dione LaRue, celebrated her 73rd birthday three months ago on September 9th, 2018... * The two weeks that "Mashed Potato Time" was at #2, the #1 record for both those weeks was "Soldier Boy" by the Shirelles... Plus "I Really Love You" was her ninth and last Top 100 record...

Fantastic music. When artists could actually sing, play instruments, write and perform. I want a time machine

I grew up in Aliso Village 1965 thru 1973, attended Utah St Elementary, Hollenbeck JR. High and then ROOSEVELT High School. Memories with the Primera Flats and some Quatro Flats Homies. I still remember the Dirt Roads, and some fights. Oldies and Motown is what I heard thru out the projects.

The beginning of the REAL Philadelphia sound; song co-written by Sharp's future husband Kenneth Gamble.
Rumors has it she was singing to Muhammad Ali when he stopped dating her cuz he converted to Islam & her mother would not let convert & destroy her career . She singing her heart out to him
