As a New Yorker, I'm offended by Dee Mwango and her confusion. She needs to relax, put the phone down, and get a tour guide to teach her about the city and correct her mistakes. I'm sure she's embarrassed and disappointed because what she expected, she didn't get. She wanted to go to rivers and waterfalls. She can go to the East River and the Hudson River. She can go to the Statue of Liberty, travel on the Staten Island ferry, world trade center etc. Let's hope that she improves and stops spouting nonsense while she's here. I'm born and raised in NY. New Jersey is another state part of what we consider the tri-state area, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. It is not part of New York although it is very easy to get to New Jersey from New York. Many people live in New Jersey and work in Manhattan, NY. Many tourist stay in New Jersey because it's cheaper than NY. It's a short ride on the Path train or bus but some parts of New Jersey you need a car to get around. Harlem is a well known black enclave in New York. Harlem is in Manhattan. It is going through gentrification which is why you are now seeing many other people. Harlem is now desirable by whites because they realized you can get to anywhere in NY from Harlem by train. There are many brownstone homes in Harlem worth millions of dollars that whites are purchasing and pushing blacks out. Harlem has a very rich black history. Whites take tour buses to Harlem churches and sit in the services on Sundays to hear the gospel music. In the past tourist have not been respectful during the service that the churches are now making them pay to attend the service and hear the music. Dee described herself as a traveler and not a tourist, but if you're a traveler/tourist whatever you should research the area. She's missing out on a lot of great sites by just blindly walking around. She should at least get a metrocard and take the bus or subway.
