to give some context, UPSL (what you were watching) NPSL, NISA Nation and USL League 2 are all semi-professional leagues in the 4th tier of US Soccer (tier right before professional). In terms of the UPSL, the GOOD teams are outstanding! Some have turned fully pro directly out of that league (ex. Maryland Bobcats) and other teams do well for a semi-pro team in tournaments like the NISA (div 3 pro) Independent Cup and US Open Cup. But for the bad teams, they're really REALLY bad, it has a little to do with all the teams there (there are over 400). In terms of the league you played in SWPL, that's a Div 5 regional League. Still semi-pro but typically (especially in some regions) the level is lower. The best semi-pro leagues to get scouted from (drafted players from the league[s] in 2022/2024): USL 2 #1 - (43 Players drafted) | avg age 21 NPSL #2/3 - (13 Players drafted) | avg age 23 UPSL #2/3 - (1 drafted in 2024 [couldn't see another year]) | avg age 22.5 NISA NATION #4 - (0 ever) | avg age (N/A) take the draft selection stat with a grain of salt since all of these leagues have different ideas and are in different stages of life (some are trying to create a pyramid, some are trying to focus on player development, etc.) but on a typical basis, that's what it looks like based on level and competition in the league.

@@curlyheadbryan4528 If you can make an impact in the league and you are networking I think it could work! it helps if you know somebody in the professional game more in that league but honestly work where ever you are and you can make it eyes are everywhere

So funny that you talk about brits crapping all over american soccer players.. I have a good story concerning that Every summer from when I was 16 until I was 34 I played striker for my local mens league team in southern Vermont. Now I was pretty good having been a two time first team all state selection and then going on to play at a very good D3 college Now being from Vermont, my hometown is whats known as a ski town having a very nice ski area right nearby. With the town being rather small, the ski area imports international college students to work. Typically they are from south america but this one spring my mens league team were practicing at our local field when around eight brits get off the local bus and ask if they could play with us. It turns out that the ski area imported students from England to work that season and since they didn't own cars and only took the bus, they had seen us practicing every tuesday and thursday and decided to come and play. Since they only had eight we gave them our backup keeper and I decided to play up front with them. We played a 45 minute half and me and the brits won 3-1. No being the starting striker for the team, I was used to filling up the goal during practice but it wasn't until one of the brits I was playing with said to me " you're 3 for 3" as in, 3 shots, 3 goals.. I hadn't even noticed. I just shrugged and said "yea, that's normal". Cut to the end of the practice and I have five british guys telling me to come to england because one of their fathers is on the pitch crew at Birmingham City F.C. and he could get me a trial... aka try out. I was like, "Honestly? I mean, I'm decent and all but if you think I am england professional level, come see some of the top players in my collegiate conference because there are guys here in the USA that I have played against that easily blow the doors off me" and I was only talking about D3 level. The brits couldn't believe that. They thought they had just found some wonder kid from the USA and I strait up told them that there were MANY like me and many better. The thing about me was, my college coach was Irish and was a Manchester United super fan. On the first day of practice my freshman year of college, he told all us freshman that we were going to train EXACTLY the same as Man U did. As in he had been there and was going to have us do all the same drills, tactics, and fitness regimes as the professionals at Manchester United have to do. What I took from living that life and getting as skilled as I did was, you can take any athletic male human being and put them through months, even years of high level training an they e going to be good at what they are training for.. It doesn't matter what country you're from. That is something that those english football snobs who talk crap about American soccer need to let sink into their heads

You probably don't know where there coming from. All the USMNT key players right now are foreign even Pulisic partially, it doesn't look like this country can develop good players. There's really no love for the sport in the U.S. unless you got lucky and live in an area where footballs appreciated.

There are many area's here in the U.S. that are as soccer crazy as any english town. sure we do not have huge cities that say that soccer is their number one sport but there any many small town all over the U.S. that are soccer crazy. I grew up in one. The thing most people are wrong about is they think soccer is behind American football, basketball and baseball no matter where you go in the U.S. And that is tru is larger towns and cities but in towns where their schools are too small to field an american football team (generally under 350 students total in grades 9-12) Ssoccer is all that matters. My highschool was one of those schools located in a small ski town.. Our soccer team was very good because all we played from kindergarden was soccer. My school consistently won state championships and when we won, we'd have a parade through downtown with our entire team being paraded through town on fire trucks.. EVERYONE in the entire town follows our highschool team. We play under stadium lighting and night games are packed with the entire town on the sidelines. The starting striker in highschool got all the girls and was the most popular kid in school.. I know all this because I was that guy and I lived it. I was a two time first team All state selection and went on to play at a D3 university on a full grant that the soccer coach set up so I would attend that school so it was essentially a full scholarship.. I'm 43 years old now and every single person in my family is known in town as "My brother" insert my real name where the word MY is.. That goes for my grandmother, Aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.. my ENTIRE FAMILY. All because I was the best soccer player on my highschool team ... Trust me, there are many towns in the U.S. just like mine @@markwilson5967

Consider yourself lucky but I find it hard to believe that there are plenty of towns like the one you grew up in. I've heard plenty of times that soccer is an upper and upper middle class sport in this country.

@@markwilson5967 dude you have the most close-minded view I've ever heard of. You're thinking of only big cities in this country. Which say in each state there may be two or three so you're talking about the view of someone who's talking about how rich kids only play soccer which is true in the biggest cities in the country andsay there's 150 of those cities in the entire country where everyone plays American football and o my the rich snobby kids who attend private a schools play soccer. Now if you were to venture an hours drive outside any of those big cities, you'd fi a one of the thousands of the smaller towns where soccer is the main. Sport because their schools are too small to support an American football program. To further prove my point let's talk about the divisions that they categorize large and smaller schools in here in the U.S. In my state for instance, there are four divisions. D1 being for all the largest schools and working down to D4 where the smallest schools play. Now if you live in a big tow. That has a D1 school, you have to take a bus at least 2 hours away and often 4 to 6 hours away simply to find another D1 school to play... And there are o my a total of 9 D1 schools in the state. Now in the two lower tiers of D3 and D4, we played one of the 16 schools that were located in the south eastern portion of my state having to have only driven a half an hour to an hour and a half tops to get to any of those schools.... And all the schools we played were soccer crazy towns because they All didn't have an american football program.

UPSL has been trash for years..... The concept ruined by having 100000 teams where anyone can be a “baller” ..... Headless chickens with zero IQ head down trying to sauce each other up when they cannot even trap and pass a ball..... US soccer as a whole has gotten worse and worse.... Fake coaches with zero experience or IQ passing their incompetence on to the youth...... I blame the non existent adults in the room and fake coaches ... Outright child abuse if you ask me..... These players have zero concept of space and timing ... They cannot read the game or anticipate the second ball...... A) win the ball B) have already looked around knowing where your teammates are located C) pass the ball to space D) immediately move to support and threaten ..... Everyone defends and it begins up top with real pressure ..... Defense left the game as you’ll know when every track is a late AF slide from behind..... Thanks for the share bro..... You were moving and in the correct spot.... Pass sooner and cut direct to goal.... One x

Completely agree with you man. I am Mexican American and I hate the US soccer and high school system, especially the coaches. Like you said zero game IQ, just high intensity sprinting to pressure the opposition, when you can defend with a lower compact block to save your energy and attack with more danger. But no the coaches are ego centric know it alls. That's why a lot of these so called semi pros get beat by a team of 30 year old Hispanics on Sunday league.

I'm in Canada and yeah, their style of play is very weird and hard to keep up. They just go all out running back and forth without much structure and pacing. It's all about running hard and moving the ball as fast as possible. Not much skill, technique and movement off the ball and visionary passes.

Thank you man I always say this to coaches and players but they call me a hater or look at me as if i am stupid. I am mexican american and I love playing with people from abroad because they play at more relaxed and fun style of play. If i play with so called D1 or top talent from US academys it's such a crappy game. bTW a lot of these players get beat by Hispanics who work construction in sundays league.

@@leonblue864 yeah understandable - I didn't receive several callbacks because I was too vocal on the pitch and strung off the other younger players. In the UK it's all about being vocal and shouting at each other, building awareness, uncovering blindspots etc.

I think the league you played in was defiantly a sort of Suday league. UPSL here in Oregon is pretty high level and our other semipro leagues are normally having rosters full of d1 players. but usl 2 for sure is the top semi pro league in the usa not upsl.

I think USL 2 is the most balanced of the league's in terms of all the teams having quality all around. But i actually think the upper end of teams in UPSL is better than the upper end of teams in USL 2. USL 2 is more attractive to college players because of its timing in the year so it features mostly young D1 athletes that are very skilled but not as experienced. It's not as attractive to full grown adults. Whereas UPSL has a lot of seasoned veterans in the form of ex pros, ex D1 players, and non-collegiate ballers how just didnt or couldnt take the college route but still grinded soccer like crazy. it will also have teams that have been together for longer.

He is saying that MLS and US soccer academys, high schools and college way playing is ass. Which is very true. All coaches look for is guys who can run with out thinking. Their style has no rythim or beauty.

Completely agree with you man MLS and American soccer system culture is so ass. All the teams are literally the same unless they have a lot of players from abroad who grew up playing in the street especially futsal games. US players tend to just RUN and Sprint like no tomorrow with out thinking about the game.
