Two little hints from an old woman. ;-) Next time you're in a thrift store pick up an old tennis, or badminton, racket and then when it's time to get the dust out of your rugs, sling them over the line and use the racket to beat the dust out. That's how my grandmothers used to do it. Another way to get the sticky remnants of labels off jars and bottles is to drop a little vegetable oil on them and then just rub the glue and paper off with a rag. Your home sparkles! You've done a great job. Do you think you'll ever have someone else stay in the other cottage? I'm thinking a friend, not a fan. ;-)

Oh my gosh - both of your tips will help me out so much! I detest any kind of label left stuck on anything. And I save all my empty jars because they are so useful. The oil trick is going to save me so much time and effort. To date I’ve had a whole system of soaking cotton balls in rubbing alcohol and letting them sit on the sticker until is slides off. Works really well, except on the adhesives it doesn’t - then it’s just a mess. I’m a bit bummed out because on Saturday I passes up an entire stack of 30 year old tennis rackets I found at a local estate/house sale...coulda had the whole stack for free, because the siblings that were selling their deceased parents possessions were so good and amazing. We chatted like we had always been friends and just like that, I made 3 new amazing friends. Life is awesome. Think I’ll call the sister in the bunch and ask about if a tennis racket was left. Lol

The little walkway looks so cute with all the plants grown up around it! If you don't want a monoculture of only tansy (the yellow buttons), you might want to pull them out or at least cut them so they don't go to seed. They are cute but will take over & you'll lose some of your other flowers to their world domination plans. Tie them in a bundle and hang to dry in your cottage! Mice don't like the smell.

Hanna, Just wondering if you have considered adding some insulation to the outside walls somehow? I know last year you went through the wood that you had stocked up really fast when the cold weather set in, and if you could insulate the walls even a little, it might mean that you could stay a little longer and make the wood last a little longer. Just a thought for you.

That is such a great idea! In some old video she did mention that she doesn't go through certain projects because she gets distracted by doing something else [Dancing or Singing or both].😄 It would be great if she did add a herb garden to her to-do list and went through with it. Something she can have outdoors and indoors (a movable box) so she can cook wherever she decides. It would be fun! I hope Hannah sees your comment and puts it on a future project list.

Hannah, we have a seasonal cabin in Northern Minnesota. Did you know that all you have to do is pour the water in the actual toilet and once you’ve poured enough water in, it automatically flush’s!? You don’t have to pour it in the back and use the handle to flush. Also when in Honduras, the toilets are the same as yours. However, they have a cistern of water in the few public bathrooms (near the bus stops) and a bucket and you just pour in the toilet, making it not a pain in the butt at all (no pun intended)😂. In Honduras, we don’t put toilet paper in the toilet, but in a garbage can and empty daily or as needed. Not gross at all. Just bag your garbage and clean as needed. Hope this helps, especially since you put the shelf so close to the top of the toilet that you won’t be able to pour a bucket of water in there.

YES! In Eastern Canada, when the power goes out during a snow storm and our well water pumps don’t work in the power outages, we ALWAYS kept a bucket of water in the bathtub for just such a purpose! You don’t need the whole bucket, just a litre or so, poured quickly. We’d always be running our water off, first snowflakes of a forecasted snowstorm. 🤷‍♀️🤣🇨🇦

It is not only in Honduras that the toilet paper is thrown in can, I live in PA and we do that to protect the sewer pipes. We rather deal with changing bags than having water toilet backing into the house. But good advise.

Love the shelf & mirror over the toilet. And for those of us on septic systems & wells, when the power goes out, we fill the tank with water stored in jugs for that very reason. Just slightly inconvenient. The outhouse works in good weather! Look for an old time rug beater!

I reuse bottles too. If you have a blow dryer, you can use it to get the labels off of bottles, by gently warming the label and slowly peeling it off. It will often come off all in one piece, along with the glue and won't leave any residue. Love your videos!

You can pour water directly into the bowl to flush the toilet; no need to remove the lid, which, sooner or later, you will likely break... If you use this method, hold back a little water or add more to refill the bowl puddle or you'll get sewer odor inside your house.

May I throw an idea out that you collect all of the wires above the power box behind some type of plastic or rubber casing that looks like wood? Then place shelves about that cabinet with a cut out surrounding the cord boxes to place more plants and what-not essentially hiding the unsightly cords? Just an idea. Your place is coming along beautifully! Great job!
