Great video, I have mine for about a few months now and still very happy with it. You really need high pressure water to clean it yes, and the shavings in the draw are a big recomandation. I cheered for you when you spoke about how it needs a second draw, I feel your pain haha. Have to say I am a little bit shocked by the comments about the way you look. I'm feel sorry for the people who feel the need to say those things to you when all you want to do is show us an informationvideo. People need to think before they write stuff like that. 🙁

Try rubbing the Roof and trays with a light mineral oil for easier cleaning. Do you use crushed Oyster Shell for improving egg shell strength?

You can make a tray in less than a half hour just use a thin piece of plywood and cut it to fit exactly and you can glue and/or screw a little lip on the board for handle and it’ll pull right out.

Has the nesting area been easier to clean since you started closing it off at night?
@SurreyAlan
@SurreyAlan 2 жыл бұрын
Much quicker with a pressure washer and this is so much easier than cleaning a wooden house and if you do get red mite you can easily take it completely to bits and pressure wash, not so easy with timber houses.

I've been trying to talk myself into chickens for months. My biggest concern has been cleaning a coop. This is perfect. Question: How many Rhode Island Reds would the large Eglu unit comfortably hold for night time? I plan on getting a large run with it. Thanks so much and very impressive.

Hi, thanks for the demo! We're thinking of buying this coop, but without the wheels to limit costs. Is it possible to move around if two people are carrying? Or would the fence detach from the coop? Thank you!
@TaraBeaverCoronado
@TaraBeaverCoronado 4 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure sure how it would move without the wheels. It would depend on how long the run is I think. And not it does not detach. You can detach sections at a time but the whole thing doesn’t come off easily. I do have a discount code in the description of that helps at all. The wheels are live savers!

I ordered an Eglu Cube today after tons of research (how I found your channel!) and I was wondering - I understand what you said about it being a con that there is no pull-out tray for the nesting area. Are there holes for water to drain out after hosing down the nesting area or do you have to just scoop it out and let it air dry?

RUST, RUST, RUST Ive had my eglu cube for 2 years problem started first 6 months.... Just know that every single piece, screw, toggle and part of this coop and any accessories like tarp grommets, fence pegs that shows chromed color will rust terribly . some of the powder coated sections will rust as well....Customer service response was , well paint them. You' d think something that was made for outdoor use would have galvanized or coated parts.

Thanks for the video. I would like to get 5 hens this spring and the eglu cube seems like a great choice for me. I recently contacted a chicken keeper/author via Facebook (don’t want to give name) but they said no on the eglu that plastic is a bad choice? I’m confused now. I would think clean up would be easy with plastic and outlast a wooden coop? Any suggestions? Thanks
@TaraBeaverCoronado
@TaraBeaverCoronado 4 жыл бұрын
I wonder why they feel plastic is a bad choice? I have wooden and plastic. I personally love my Omlet coop. It’s definitely much easier to clean compared to the wooden ones. And it has better insulation to help with the cold and the heat.

It is nice with good weather. My thought on small coops in general is where do the supplys and food go. I built a 8x20 foot walk in coop. 4x8 where you walk in is shelves and garbage cans with there food.. I'm in Alaska to so I didnt want to be outside to long when its 30 below...
@TaraBeaverCoronado
@TaraBeaverCoronado 4 жыл бұрын
G Walker these coops are built to last in very cold weather. They’re well insulated and they even have a special cover you can buy for extreme cold. But I totally understand what you’re saying when you want a walk in run. Omlet does have that available as well.

@@TaraBeaverCoronado I love the name! I didnt catch it before. I watched a few more of your videos, I also take in chickens people gave up on and hens that wont lay. I have a very good success rate on getting them healthy and laying again.. I use mostly old school ways as I was raised around chickens in the seventys... Vinagar, garlic, Cheyenne pepper, and the most important thing DE... Oh and olive oil for scaly legs... I seldom use antibiotics... I do think today's chicken craze has alot of products on the shelves that are not necessarily needed or good. I feed a 50/50 mix of cracked corn mixed with layer crumble 20 percent protein... fresh water with two tablespoons per gallon of vinegar... Not that I think you need to know this as your success rates, weight gains are great! Just thought you might find it interesting. Alaska has it's own challenges for farming as well.... Your Dad seems cool. Glad to see a farm without green! I'm not a green fan... I have two kubotas but LS or New Holand were my second choice.....

How comes you don't let them out to free range?? Just seems a bit pointless rescuing them from say a battery farm to then just keep them locked up again although they are better off at urs than a battery farm but still fastened up??? Just curious as to why they don't get let out!!!???
@TaraBeaverCoronado
@TaraBeaverCoronado 4 жыл бұрын
They're pretty much skin and bones. Very light, and their beaks have been cut off. They don't have any way of protecting themselves. Because this coop has wheels on it I'm able to move them around to keep them on fresh grass. Even though they may not technically be "free range" Their life is 100x better than it was and they are extremely loved and taken care of.
