Firstly, what a great podcast and never a better topic. Can I say ‘Country Girl’ is not a deep cut. It is up there with the gold standard of Sabbath. ‘Arguably’ their most catchy song. The riff, the melody, the bridge 🌉 , the romanticism. Just timeless. Congrats on the Hot Line folks! Probably the most party 🎉 song on the Sabb’s discography. Great work guys. Honourable mentions.. It's hard to chose from the early Ozzy Era such as their self titled debut, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Vol. 4, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Here are my picks 1. A Bit of Finger/Sleeping/Warning (S/T Debut, 1970) 2. Planet Caravan (Paranoid, 1970) 3. Lord of this World (Master of Reality, 1971) 4. Tomorrow's Dream (Vol. 4, 1972) 5. Spiral Architect (Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, 1973) 6. Am I Going Insane (Radio)/The Writ (Sabotage, 1975) 7. Back Street Kids (Technical Ecstasy, 1976) 8. Shock Wave (Never Say Die, 1978) 9. Lonely Is The Word (Heaven and Hell, 1980) 10. Slipping Away (The Mob Rules, 1981) 11. Born Again (Born Again, 1983) 12. In For The Kill, Turn to Stone, and Seventh Star (Seventh Star, 1986) 13. Ancient Warrior, Glory Ride, and Eternal Idol (The Eternal Idol, 1987) 14. MY PERSONAL FAVORITE - When Death Calls (Headless Cross, 1989) 15. Jerusalem (TYR, 1990) 16. I (Dehumanizer, 1992) 17. I Witness, Cross of Thorns, and Dying for Love (Cross Purposes, 1994) 18. Zeitgeist (13, 2013) I don't own 'Forbidden' (1995) regardless of what fans think of that album, I will buy this at some point.

I have to admit that it took many many listens to appreciate but eventually it grew on me. I'm a Purple and Sabbath fan like Pete, and I really loved when Ian Gillan joined Sabbath too. My news source of metal information back then was Kerrang Magazine that I got from Zig Zag Records in Brooklyn. They had all pictures of Ian and Tony at the bar drinking beers and celebrating. I saw them on the Born Again tour at the Spectrum in Philly. The coolest image that I remember of that concert is Gillan playing the Congas during a Metal song. lol Hair flying. Good times.

A tough one as I'm one of those that gave up on Sabbath after Dio. 01. The Wirt - it's one of my favorite tunes off my favorite Sabbath album. 02. Country Girl, - always been one of the songs my neighbors are forced to listen to when I play it. 03. Thrill of it All - That's my story and I'm stickin to it, because I got no reason to lie. 04. Over and Over. Love the doomy feeling of this song.

I love Technical Ecstasy and my band SPILLAGE did a cover of Dirty Women available on our channel...but Never Say Die was also criminally underrated and off that album...I love the tune Hard Road....love the lyrics in that one...

The album "Iommi" with Glen on vocals deserves its own Deep Cut video! One of the greatest, yet unsung, albums ever!

Back Street Kids from Technical Ecstasy I think is one of Sabbath's heaviest songs. Seems like its kind of a forgotten song.

Slipping Away was indeed played live before the Heaven and Hell band, or at least the first bit up until the solo. It's on Hammersmith 81. At the start of the tour they played most of Mob Rules - as far as I know the only song from that album not played live ever was Over and Over (unless they did it as Heaven and Hell at some point).

Worthy. MY compliments Pete, I am becoming a fan. As a matter of fact I'd love to send you something from my label which is coming on strong right now and includes a #1 on the Foundations chart over Metallica atm.

Great show!!! Sabbath is my second favorite band right behind Deep Purple. Agree with Martin Sabotage is their best album. From Sabotage I call out The Writ and Megalomania. From my second favorite Sabbath album Sabbath Bloody Sabbath I call out National Acrobat.

My 5 pics would be: - Johnny Blade - Over and Over - In for the Kill - Kill in the Spirit World - Black Moon Great to hear what other super Sabbath fans think are deep cuts, especially Martin who’s wrote a bunch of Sabbath books. Great insight and selection of songs for sure. I guess I never think of a tune that was played on tour (or multiple tours with Country Girl) could be considered a deep cut, but that’s just my opinion.

“What’s the use” the bonus track of Cross purposes Japanese version is a killer. Up tempo, solid riff, Bobby’s tight drum. It deserves more attention.

Megalomania is a very underrated gem yet it is on of their greatest songs and my second favourite Sabbath song. For others from the various eras I'd pick Children of the Sea, Heart Like a Wheel, The Shining and Born Again. For others I'd put in are Air Dance, You Won't Change Me, Fluff, Devil and Daughter, Psychophobia, Anno Mundi, Time Machine, Under the Sun, Shaking Off The Chains, Forbidden and I could say more. There are so many underrated gems from their career.

Yes! to Bill Ward's solo albums. If you haven't ever, do it. It's challenging at times, (and challenging to obtain physical copies), but ever so rewarding.

So totally agree with Martin Popoff regarding the spontaneous creativity in the Ozzy era contrasted with the more strategic songwriting from the Ronny era onwards.
