General Comment. Loving the Deep Cut Dive shows. Have created a playlist on the streaming service I use and as I watch the shows I add the songs to the list. Great to hear Pete and Martin talk passionately about a band that's never really got the dues they deserve, despite them being name-checked regularly as an influence for many bands and musicians. Derided by swathes of the British press in particular, but loved by a core of die-hard fans. Their renaissance over the past couple of decades has been astonishing, and their live shows are among the best you'll see. Spot-on comments about the legend that is Mick Box.

Shadows of Grief is a masterpiece of a masterwork Look At Youself! (happy to hear that someone think like me that this album is phenomaly produced and Iain Clarke's playing is incredible) In fact, I always thought that Look at Yourself is out this world. Perfection! Suicidal man, but what is most important is that albums that Uriah Heep made from 2008 Wake the sleeper to Living the dream are trully fantastic and a must have for all. For me Heep now days makes the best music from all classic bands.

The live version of 'Tales' featuring Thijs Van Leer (Focus) is breathtaking.

1. Hot Persuasion (I also love Abominog and this was an early favorite from me... I get an Aerosmith vibe from the song, albeit with added textures that only Uriah Heep could offer with John Sinclair's keyboards, the band's signature backup vocals and one of Mick's more aggressive solos.) 2. Between Two Worlds (I've just heard this recently and I think it's a stand-out track from the very competent Sonic Origami... Been diggin' it a lot lately!) 3. Footprints in the Snow (An odd but pretty song in the beginning that really picks up on things during the pre-chorus to become a melodic powerhouse; Mick shows you around the end just how musical a simple bend can be.) 4. Been Away too Long (Nice ballad-type song with a tasty wah solo from Mick... Funny you guys mention Rainbow at the end of the video, this is one song in particular that sounds like it could be sung by Dio... Great vocals by John Lawton.) 5. Salisbury (Only one I'll slightly cheat on- a title track that I was surprised to discover that it's been played a few times... Anyway- total MASTERPIECE... Not many bands can offer an epic suite of this magnitude, utilizing an orquestra for an almost cinematic sounding experience... The climax is unbelievable, with Mick shredding amazing leads back and forth in a groove context between repetitions of Byron's ghostly, more classical-inspired vocals... For newcomers to Heep, DO NOT avoid this song for its length like I did when I was younger... Salisbury might be my favorite album nowadays.)

The problem I have is I love this band so much it is difficult to know what to classify as Deep Dive so some of my favourites that don't always get the recognition. 1 - Real Turned On - ('eavy, 'umble) A great rock song and using both guitars. Hensley playing slide before his solo, the almost Thin Lizzy like twin lead and then into Mick's solo. 2 - The Park (Salisbury) A great vocal performance by Byron to hearbreaking lyrics by Ken (My brother's dreams once here did soar , Until he died at the hand of needless war) 3 - From Magician - Blind Eye. Fairly straight forward song but I love the way it moves between the minor key verse and major key chorus. 4 - Have to go with Pilgrim. When Sweet Freedom came out I couldn't stop playing it, A fantastic album which doesn't get the credit it deserves, great songs and this is epic. 5 - Suicidal Man (Wonderworld) This is a patchy album but does have some highlights and this is one. And has some great bass playing from Gary (Hon Mention) Shady Lady (Return To Fantasy)

I own five of the early albums and after kind of giving up on Uriah Heep thur the eighties and nineties; but then they played a free concert outdoors at a Casino in Southern Calif in 2013 and they were incredible! Loved the singer Bernie Shaw; they played the classics along with new material that i never knew they had out; went and got Wake the Sleeper and that album stayed on my player for a month. I actually like the newer material as much as the old. Pete , you were actually the one with your advice that made me become a fan again of Heep. Living the Dream baby! Thanks.

In the day, I took the best of Demons and of Magician's Birthday, and struggled painfully to just pick the best 45 minutes on cassette. For the other side I put the entire album Medusa, by Trapeze. A lot of people don't know about that one. Any of you might be pleased to give it a whirl. It's also very hard rock with swell melodies and mood. IOW, much like Heep was to me.

I am guessing that you guys don’t like Salisbury 1971. I really never hear you comment on it and I heard that Martin gave it a terrible review. Well like you always say what some people hate other people love .. it’s all subjective. I bought that album when it first came out and my girlfriend and I played it to death. Then we threw a big party in our apartment and filled the bathtub with ice and beer and listened to that album. That girlfriend became my wife and that album is the first one on my Uriah Heep playlist. Yes I am old and so are they and we both still rock...

Thanks Pete and Martin another great show - hard to think of only a few deep cuts for Heep as there are so many - one that I like from a lesser liked album of theirs is Fools from Conquest (that had been recorded during the Five Miles sessions with John Lawton) - and there are times where I quite like to listen to that album and though I do think John Sloman was never going to be the right guy, at the time I was open to it as I loved Lone Star. My favourte Heep era , because many (though not all) of my favourite albums were from around the same period in time when I was mid to late teens and early twenties (i.e 76-85), is the Lawton era and Abominog, though I agree that Heep have been at the top of their game since Sea of Light. Nice to hear Pete saying that he likes Heep more than Zeppelin - got me to thinking about my favourite bands and for every one of them I preferred them to Zeppelin - talking about Heep, Purple, Yes, ELP, Camel, Rush, Rainbow, Tull, UFO, Priest, Maiden, Saxon, Schenker - the list goes on. I've never thought about which is better just which ones I prefer to listen to and not that I dont like Zeppelin I just prefer listening to others before them.

If I had to choose, I would actually go with a John Sloman song, "Love Stealer." Probably the most hated era of the band, but to be honest, on this one track, I just love the simple bulldozer riff, those amazing classic harmonies on the chorus...classic. I also really like "Think It Over" from Abominog, I always liked Pete Goalby's version of the song better than Sloman's. Picking a Byron era track...I'd probably go with "Suicidal Man," probably one of the heaviest songs in their catalogue.

AWESOME "Falling in Love" from Fallen Angel Great song I always loved that one a fave of mine too I saw them on Don Kirshners doing that song! And on "Think it over" the single they released Originally with John Sloman is actually a better version, The Goalby version has too much synth where the Sloman version is more stripped down and heavier, I Bought the single from the fan club in 1981 and waited for it to arrive in the mail!

Shadow of Grief is a MONSTER of a track, in my top 5 faves. Need to look into the post Byron eras, lost touching the early 80s and when I thought to look into them a few years ago they had 800 albums out and it seemed an overwhelming task to dive in...

Pete is so right about the Abominog album and the vocals being very Lou Gramm. Almost sounds like a lost Foreigner album at times.

You nailed it gentlemen. Just because Zeppelin or The Who was huge doesn't mean they necessarily rank above UH, Rainbow, Budgie, Sabbath, or other less famous or less drooled on rockers of the day. It seems to me that a bit of critical bullying is a badge of honor for bands of that era (or most eras LOL). Hell, Iggy Pop and The Stooges made the critics and industry throw up in their mouths in the early to mid 70s. Now they are worshipped as Gods of the underground rock laboratory, from punk to industrial to goth to glam to grunge. People don't always seem to have the best taste in music.

I am beginning to think that there are certain bands that you have to be a man in your mid-50's or older to really love. I listened to all of the songs you guys recommended. There is nothing wrong with them. I actually like a few Uriah Heep songs very much, but there are more that I hate with equal passion. This was a good show and will certainly help people learn more about this band. I know I SHOULD like Uriah Heep, but I also know I don't and never will no matter how many chances I give them. Things don't grow on me. It is either an immediate affinity or aversion when it comes to music.
