you missed why people were so angry about taylor swift being times person of the year. people hate her bc she's one of the most famous persons alive and yet she does nothing with her platform. you know how last year times POTY was zelensky, bc he was defending his country. isn't it kinda weird how they didn't pick any palestinian person for this year's POTY, which would have made sense, and instead they picked TS for some incomprehensible reason, and she DIDN'T MADE ANY COMMENTS ON IT. fuck her.

@@HotStrange I wrote it as a separate comment elsewhere, but it's just as true here: I ended up attending one of the shows on their Viva la Vida tour, and they are, hands down, the best band I've seen perform live. Chris Martin really knew how to engage with the crowd, they had a perfect amount of "prop" involvement that made the audience feel unified in our experience, and they set up a couple of mini-stages throughout the venue so that even the worst seats in the house saw a couple of songs performed up close. They seemed unrelentingly happy to be there, even though they had to have been sick of the album by then. Every song was given full effort. (And, every concertgoer was given a CD with a few bonus tracks on the way out -- including one that became a favorite song of mine.)

@@jacksyoutubechannel4045 I think we saw them on the same tour. I got that live CD as well. I lost it in a car accident unfortunately. I also had a bunch of confetti butterflies. One thing I would like to add (because this DDD is almost immaculate) is that Coldplay not only didn't used BTS to have a hit, but they developed a relationship with them that was genuine, even being friends with Jin, one of the BTS guys, and the band cowrote the solo song Jin released before he went to mandatory military service, "The Astronaut", a wholesome and beautiful single, with signature Coldplay sound. We can say anything about them, but this is a band made of apparently good people.

Death and All His Friends is their best closer and one of their best songs in general. The statement in that refrain is also some of their best lyrical work: “No, I don’t want a battle from beginning to end, I don’t want a cycle of recycled revenge. the bts feature on my universe actually makes a ton of sense for both bands. it's one of their most genuine collabs, which is obvious from the behind the scenes content we got from the recording of the song (which chris travelled all the way to south korea for) and from the friendship the bands have formed since. they way they talk about each other and inspire each other in different ways is honestly quite moving. it even resulted in chris making a song for bts' jin's last song before enlisting in the army. idk, all of it makes me love my universe even more

Mr. Snare, I beg of you - *please* do a DDD on The Bee Gees! There’s so much to unpack and discover with their discography, ranging from their first few baroque pop albums to “rock opera” to the disco years and beyond, it’s quite a ride. They’re a highly under appreciated and undervalued band because I think most people just think of them as the cheesy falsetto disco guys, but when you give their first few albums a spin, and when you really listen to the complex arrangements in the disco stuff, it’s really mind blowing. But I think it fits on GHOST STORIES fine: in fact, I think it's a terrific idea, a song near the end of an album about a breakup in which the singer basically says, with all the love and affection he's got, I love you, and I sincerely hope that you find *everything* that you're looking for.

@@manuwhite18 almost every track in ghost stories can be pinned to a stage of grief, to me at least always in my head is more of an introduction to the grief, magic is denial, ink anger (mainly at oneself), true love is bargaining, midnight & another's arms * oceans are depression, and a sky full of stars & O are acceptance. This is why I think A sky full of stars works, you have all these emotions built up especially at the end of oceans and then it all comes out, unlike earlier in the album, these emotions come out in a healthy way, Chris more looking back at the positive aspects instead of mourning the loss. I think A Sky Full of Stars is better in the context of the album due to the sadness of earlier. The album then goes much softer and concludes with O where the loss is fully accepted and Chris can fully recover from his loss.

Coldplay is one of those types of bands who make newer music that still sound almost just as appealing as their older songs released during their supposed “prime” era [a.k.a. only the first few years of their existence]. Compared to other bands that went more drastically pop or electronic in their later years, Coldplay’s sound is still very recognizable and distinct. On top of that, I hardly expected their sound to blend so well when they collaborated with artists such as Jay-Z, Rihanna, Beyoncé, The Chainsmokers, and BTS.

One of the most interesting stories I have related to Coldplay music is that my mother was playing piano for a wedding and she has played many weddings in her life time. But this one wedding the bride wanted to walk down the aisle to a piano rendition of Yellow. She said it was one of the oddest choices she’s been given to play before.

Coldplay IS underrated. As a guitar player whose really into rock music and that community, thats where they get the most hate, which is crazy. One specific thing which perfectly shows that is their lead guitarist (i forgot his name), he might not play a lot of complicated stuff, but he always plays EXACTLY what the song needs, and his writing is so creative and catchy. Parachute is a masterpiece

FFS. You can't call a band with 100 million album sales underrated: it's nonsensical. There are people who hate them, because they don't like their genre/songwriting/(lack of) personality. That doesn't make them underrated. A band that big, their guitarist will be as highly rated as The Edge in a decade or two, regardless of whether he's any good or not, he will inspire kids to pick up a guitar, he will be adored. Underrated would be a band not selling records, not filling stadiums and producing incredible music. You don't get to call a band underrated because you like them and other people think they're shit.

love them or hate them, you absolutely cannot deny how big Coldplay have become, they are legitimately one of the biggest bands in the world and I personally the reason for it all comes down to the songs. Their songs may be lyrically average and may not be classify them as a "rock" band but I don't think that matters when the songs are beautiful, wonderful, emotive and universally appealing, anyone can form an easy attachment to them and feel something when listening to them, as someone who went to the Music of the Spheres Tour, I can confirm that experiencing these songs live is a hugely cathartic and joyful out-of-body experience that was like nothing I had ever experienced before I genuinely think Coldplay are gonna go down in history as one of the all time greats

Coloratura is my pick for their best song, despite the album being among their weakest. I remember not caring at all about everyday life as I never enjoyed orphans, and mostly listened to coldplay's big singles for nostalgia at this point. Then I heard higher power and kinda liked it (it grew on me a good bit over time), then I remember seeing coloratura being released, and kept forgetting to listen to it. Then when my universe released and went number 1 i listened out of curiosity and liked it, then that same day listened to coloratura, and it floored me. Mainly cuz i never knew coldplay had a song of that musical scope in them, once broken down into all its segments, transitions, and other smaller details, it truly is a masterpiece, and my prediction is that it will only grow on coldplay fans over the years, and will go down as one of their finest moments.

Idk if thats a bad interpretation but thats how i saw it. the album builds like a slow burner to this big rave track. I dont rly like it on its own but i like it more in the album. But I agree that their lyrics lack, people call them boring and yes lyrically they are a bit boring. But you should see them live, their concerts are incredible. I went to their show during the Mylo xyloto tour, it was colorful and the energy was amazing. That's another thing I like about Coldplay. Every album and tour they have done starting with Viva La Vida, they paint their instruments and wear clothes on stage that represent what the album is about and their stage is designed as the tour theme. A fun fact about Live In Buenos Aires from an argentinian! Coldplay was super super well received for playing their cover of ''De Musica Ligera'' by Soda Stereo, an hymn for Latin American rock. For reference, singing ''De Musica Ligera'' in a Latin American stadium, specially Argentinian, will give you a similar effect to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen --- for spanish-speaking rock and rock in general, I'd say, Soda Stereo's impact is THAT massive. Coldplay's gesture was rewarded with a roaring crowd and, funnily enough, imitated by foreign artists coming to the country to the point it's now considered a bit of a cheap move. But they were surely pioneers in that and their recognition to local idols was much appreciated!

I really wish I could see them live again. That Music of the Spheres show was fantastic. March 2022 was an eternity ago. "High Power" is one of my favorite lead singles by them. Very simple and effective. And I always thought "My Universe" was a good example of "let's not overthink this and have some fun" and you can tell that by the lyrics. "Warning Sign" is an underrated favorite from 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' and I wish more people knew about it! 'Viva La Vida' was one the first albums I ever bought and I didn't appreciate it a lot at the time (too alternative for 16 year old, I guess), but throughout the years I keep coming back to it and loving a new song each time ("Yes" is so so good.). I was never aware there was any derision towards Coldplay. To me, they were one of the many bands playing TV, but I guess there's always this weird expectation that Coldplay is somehow gonna release a groundbreaking experimental rock record that's gonna blow everyone's mind. However, Chris's voice anything but experimental, it is made for pop. His lower register is very interesting and has some swagger, but he literally had to alter it for "Midnight" to show us something we hadn't heard before. In the end, the sooner one accepts that Coldplay is just another band, marching to the beat of their own drum, the easier it is to enjoy them. I very much agree with your stance that these days, there's very little music that I hate. I either like it, love it or ignore/forget it.

Having seen their live shows I can attest that their ability to put on a PERFORMANCE and give you every penny's worth is incredible. I've seen some great artists over the years, but sometimes they haven't necessarily had the most impressive shows. Coldplay's style and influences have changed over the years, and I know that's not the best thing for staunch defenders of Parachutes, or oldie Coldplay purists, but in the band's defense, they've remained so relevant to multiple generations. I honestly don't think I want to hear Parachutes or X&Y again. I don't think it would feel as good. And to TOP IT OFF, their live shows play their old hits too. If you go see their show you're guaranteed to have a fantastic time, whether you got in with My Universe, or Viva la Vida, or Yellow. It's really the best case scenario for a big band like this and I'm glad you managed to identify these points.

i've never heard of someone matching my coldplay opinions like this. i am so pleased. usually i put longer videos like this on in the background like a podcast, but i was so entertained i sat and watched like a movie!!! great stuff!

As somebody who associates woth Indie Rock and Punk, im glad we might be getting to a point where we can admit that Coldplay has an incredibly impressive discography. Also something worth of note is how much "Up in Flames" really foreshadows the sound of Ghost Stories.
