Recently retired warden here California penal code 25640 describes the exemption to the prohibition of concealed carry of a firearm for licensed hunters and anglers. So while fishing, concealed carry by a licensed angler is legal. I always recommend an angler print a copy of that exemption and keep it with them because I have found many deputies/police/CHP are not aware of that exemption. Additionally, while on federal land avoid carrying into any structure of any kind.

I use the Hard Cast Flat Nose rounds in Idaho while in the woods; Hollow points may work on a bear without a fat layer (such as right out of their den in the Spring) but otherwise the hollow point will splatter the fat layer and may not not penetrate into anything vital... and it really aggravates the bear! I really like the copper Lehigh projectile that is loaded by Underwood. You have the best cinematography of any KZfaq sports channel... your layout and angles with your drone are the best. Thank you!
@joshuacornelius25
@joshuacornelius25 Жыл бұрын
Agreed... I carry the G40 10mm longslide with the underwood ammo up here in Idaho as well. Even with the longer barrel of the G40 I wouldn't trust hollow points to get through and stop a charging bear. 10mm is already on the low end of bear defense....better to shoot over penetration than under when a bear is determined to put the hurt on ya.

Great caliber choice!! Many people are not familiar with the the 10mm cartridge but this caliber is a powerhouse round that falls into the Magnum category. My Glock 29 is my EDC (Everyday Carry), my Glock 20 is my backwood gun, and my Glock 40 MOS is my big game/dangerous game hunting gun. FYI, when carrying, make sure you load your mag with copper or lead free rounds. When you carry, especially when in the forest, you're subjecting yourself to hunting regulation. Carrying copper or lead free ammo will save you from a headache with legality issues.

The blood line you reference is actually the kidney of the fish. I've spent over 40 years romping through forest and wilderness areas in the West and have never felt the need to carry a firearm for safety. All of the bears I have encountered have tucked tail as soon as they realize you are there and the only lion I've seen is when it crossed the road in front of me. I'll carry bear spray in some areas like in Grizzly country. I only time I carry a gun in the woods is when I hunt.

Awesome video! Definitely a good choice on the G20 for woods defense. I carry the G40 here in Colorado and when I go back home to Montana. I would be careful shooting those hard cast rounds out of your pistol though. You should be fine shooting a handful of them, but the soft lead will eventually clog up or "lead" the polygonal rifling of the barrel, which can lead to pretty nasty failures. Underwood Ammo makes some coated hard casts that are much cleaner to run through polygonal rifled barrels. These are what I run in my G40 and they have been great! I'd also recommend running quite a few of those hollow points through your gun before trusting them out in the woods. Hollow points are much more likely to cause malfunctions due to the bullet geometry. Underwood also makes some CNC machined copper rounds that create a similar if not larger permanent wound cavity as most hollow points, but they have far better penetration capabilities for those thick skinned critters.

Man when I was a kid and I mean 9 years old, I took Hunters Safety school and when I was 10 I got my Hunting License from California Fish And Game. I used to carry a riffle or shotgun almost everywhere I hiked. That was 43 years ago. Even my buddy from school did the same thing and we would go fishing and hunting all the time together. So many rules now. Now the only rule I prescribe to now is "Don't break into my house". It won't go well. I lived in California then... I live in Florida now. .. I can legally wax somebody just for trespassing on my property. Of course that depends on a few things. Are they armed? Do they have criminal records? Did they try to steal things? Did they try to break into my house? Guy trying to break in my front door... I just shoot right through the door and call 911. Let the cops file the report. Matt you should file for a concealed carry permit. It's not that hard to do.

Matts, no need for one in the chamber most of the time. Pulling the slide takes a fraction of a second but leaving it out of the chamber makes the firearm much safer if you were to take a spill on your bike or slip and get banged up in the rapids. Just my two cents. I also carry while in the bush.

Actually there is a California law that allows for concealed carry without a permit when fishing or hunting. You can conceal carry (unloaded) to and from the place you are fishing provided it is a direct route with no stops in between. California Penal Code Section 12027

@@amsb4dafunk558 Is that a national forests thing? I typically open carry in NF but sometimes will have a concealed backup. Never saw anything specific about needing to be open carry while fishing or hunting. Do you have the code or a reference for it? I'd like to inform my friends in case we're not following the law.

Ok, love the videos Matt, and what a location! But as someone who has spent a great deal of time in the outdoors in true wilderness (bush Alaska). I am a little disturbed by how much emphasis urban dwellers place on firearms when venturing into the wild. Those things will only keep you safe if 1) you are trained and competent with the weapon and 2) you can keep your cool when encountering sudden danger. Almost everything in the wild including bears and mountain lions will want to avoid humans so take your gun but don't be nervous up there. Also, get someone to teach you motocross skills such as how to navigate your bike safely downhill in rough terrain. Believe it or not, the Front brake is the most important! Gloves and good footwear as well as a helmet will protect you in a crash. You can take that stuff off while you're fishing. That said, best of luck on your adventures.

That park ranger just outright lied and misled you. California Penal Code 25640, states: "Section 25400 does not apply to, or affect, licensed hunters or fishermen carrying pistols, revolvers, or other firearms capable of being concealed upon the person while engaged in hunting or fishing, or transporting those firearms unloaded when going to or returning from the hunting or fishing expedition." CPC 25400 lists when you may NOT concealed carry firearms. CPC 25640 is the exemption to when you may NOT concealed carry. That means, COC 25640 states you may SPECIFICALLY concealed carry DURING the act of fishing or hunting AND going to or returning. Contrary to what the ranger says that "you MUST open carry", CPC 26350 prohibits you from open carrying in a public place. A national forest is a public place. Firearms laws are already hard to interpret as it is. Please don't contribute to the anti-2A by causing more confusion.

Your interpretation of CA laws in federal land is flawed. CA laws don't apply to where he was unless that Sheriff authorized Forest Rangers to enforce CA laws within. National forest is federal land with it's own set of rules. www.nps.gov/articles/firearms-in-national-parks.htm
@joeblow4795
@joeblow4795 Жыл бұрын
@@bunnyoperator Actually no. If state law allows firearm discharge, then carry is allowed in the NP. Specifically in a NP, a licensed CCW may concealed carry. Open carry loaded or unloaded is prohibited. So the park ranger is still wrong -- no open carry; concealed carry only for licensed carry.
