Millie, you really need to listen to Mark 1 tracks. The ones worth listening to are Hush - Mandrake Root - Help! - Hey Joe - Kentucky Woman - Exposition/We Can Work It Out - Shield - Anthem - River Deep, Mountain High - Lalena - Why Didn't Rosemary? - Bird Has Flown - April. Also, from Mk II, you must listen to Place In Line.

Even though I am old as dirt now, I was fortunate to see Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Vanilla Fudge on their US tour for this album in 1972. Funny thing was Vanilla Fudge, and Black Sabbath opened for Deep Purple. The keyboardist is the amazing Jon Lord, singer Ian Gillian, guitar Ritchie Blackmore, bass Roger Glover and drums Ian Paice. It was one of the most amazing concerts of my life and I have seen a lot. Basically the whole audience was doing what you are now. :)

Jon Lord on the organ & keyboards for Deep Purple... 🤘🤘He was a classically-trained pianist and composer, and he co-founded Deep Purple around 1968 w/ Ritchie Blackmore (guitar)and Ian Paice (drums)... In 1970, Deep Purple wanted to make 'heavy rock' music like Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, so they got Ian Gillan (lead vocals) and Roger Glover (bass) and made history w/ 4 major albums - "In rock" (1970)... 'Fireball' (1971)... 'Machine head' (1972) and 'Who do we think we are' (1973)... in addition, a historic live album 'Made in Japan' (1972). Jon Lord played his Hammond organ through a guitar amp, so he his sound was as heavy and powerful as Blackmore's guitar. Deep Purple carried on until 1976 w/ David Coverdale (vocals) and Glenn Hughes (bass & vocals) before disbanding... Jon Lord and his friend Ian Paice eventually joined Whitesnake (David Coverdale's band) until 1984, when Deep Purple reunited w/ Gillan, Blackmore, Lord, Paice and Glover... internal tensions finally lead to Ritchie Blackmore leaving Deep Purple a second time in 1993. Jon Lord kept going w/ Deep Purple until 2002... he expressed interest in making classical music again, and left the band cordially... Don Airey (keyboards) replaced him... Sadly, Jon Lord passed away from cancer in 2012... (R.I.P. legend) He was honored by Deep Purple, Whitesnake, and even recently by Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) w/ a tribute tour for Jon Lord as 'Concerto for group and orchestra' (which was the Deep Purple concerto project that he organized way back in 1969). U can watch Jon Lord interviews online... He was such a gentleman and a profoundly articulate in talking about his music and works.

Great reaction! --- When I used to play my 8 track tape of this in my 1969 Chevelle SS 396 it could at times be difficult to not press down on the skinny peddle. The song always wanted me to wind it out. It was still the same when driving my 1973 Dodge Challenger 340 after blowing up the engine in my Chevelle. No, I didn't lay off the skinny peddle enough in the Chevelle and wound her out one too many times. The 70's were so much fun in so very many ways!

MILLIE, Purple was another one of those bands from England, that rock your face off and melted your brain.. They along with several other bands liked and used a Hammond Organ. These instruments had/have a distinct sound... Purple was one of the MANY rock bands around as I was growing up. Their biggest song & one you must jam too, is "Smoke on the Water." Darn good tune! Another is "My woman from Tokyo".. You'll LOVE them... And lastly, I want to - must tell you thank you for exploring music in this time period... Take care lovely lady AND stay safe! I have an answer to your keyboard question. His name is Jon Lord. Deep Purple are doing some shows now. Several in South America and a few in Europe... Mean time, you rock on lady --- ROCK & ROLL...... I adore your energy!!!! Some more Purple songs --- Hush, Burn, and Child in Time...... Get down girl!

Jon Lord was heart of Deep Purple... Founder of the band. He was in every line-up until he wasn't able to play. By a lot of people this song is considered to be first heavy metal song (even that than heavy metal wasn't the thing). And Machine Head is probably one of albums that mostly influenced this genre. One possible way of hearing this song is the cover in The Expanse S03E07 (in Belter language, but the music is pretty copy of the original).

And also the live album "Made in Japan" recorded in Japan on the 'Machine head' tour 1972... it is a live album w/ no overdubs in the studio and cost only $3000 to record (Queen's 1975 album 'A night at the Opera' cost 40K Pounds).

I played in bands my whole life and I can tell that you would be fun to do that with. I love how you totally get into it and notice all of it. This is a totally different kind of music, but it was popular around the same time on the radio, and I love this whole album Machine Head that I like all kinds of music. For some reason watching you bounced around, I think you would really get off on how funky and I don't know just how incredibly cool this early Stevie Wonder song is, it's kind of different than all his rest and he's almost affecting his voice like he's slurring his words like he's drunk or something. It's just so perfect a sound. Here is a link to the album cut which is identical to the radio cut only the radio cut chops out the last maybe 30 or 40 seconds at least where he does this amazing jamming on the slow fade. It's so important to the song. And I did hear it this way on the radio some but I also heard the shorter version a lot. So this link is to the full studio cut. What a song this is but dangerous. Back in 1987 I was a newly qualified driver having past ny driving test about 9 months earlier, I was driving my very first car a mini with this song blasting out my tape deck.As you can imagine I had spent a large amount of money on my car audio system and probably doubled the actual value of y second had first ever car, but this song was to change everything. As the song played my driving got faster and then suddenly I took a sharpish right hand bend on a small country road somewhere between Banbury and Bicester hit a patch of ice ( it was early December 1987) and the car skidded off the road hit a drainage ditch and gently flipped upside down landing on its side in a hedgerow. I was fortunately only shaken not injured and managed to scramble out the car and stand on the roadside thanking my lucky stars and all I could hear was Highway Star still blasting their tune and Ian Gillians vocals coming from my now damaged car and their still very noisy heavy loud speakers. At the time I was feeling lucky but very stupid and annoyed with myself but now I just look back at it with a wry smile and the feeling of nostalgia about my mini that was now uneconomical to repair. Its a song that has instant memories for me now whenever I hear it. The car was scrapped but I did at least rescue my Machine Head cassette tape, my car stereo system and my expensive speakers. What a great song and a great !!! tune to drive to ( be careful)

Jon Lord, although he passed away almost 11 years ago, is a legendary keyboard player, ,along with Keith Emmerson and many others. He put his Hammond through that Marshal amp and created a sound that is almost impossible to recreate nowadays...of course his skills were like "god mode".... That was the legendary Deep Purple Mk II you saw and listened to there and that is the opening track from the Machine Head album (1972). John Lord’s classical training as a pianist from the age of 5 was the foundation which he built on as he progressed and later applied his talent to the organ and electronic keyboard. Bands like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, in which every member is a virtuoso in their own right, and whose success is the product of not only talent but years of perfecting their craft, are a rarity these days. Nowadays the music industry is geared towards instant media-driven success on a plate at the expense of genuine talent and hard work. Which is why we will sadly probably never see the like of these bands again.

Richie Blackmore is the lead guitarist. Jimi Hendrix idolized him, and copied a lot of his stuff. John Lord played the Hammond organ. He was also amazing.

During this time, Machine head and Made in Japan, biggest band in the world, as a child heard Made in Japan. Teenaged neighbors' younger brother and I jammed to it

Another Best on keyboard is Keith Emerson with his Band Emerson, Lake and Palmer. And another excellent gitar player you have to listen to is Jeff Beck.
