This track is a great example of why Ritchie Blackmore is one of my favorite guitarists of that era. I just love his tone and his approach. He's known as a "hard rock" guitarist, but man he could play a mean blues. One of those guys you can tell instantly in one note.

Organist John Lord had begun to use amplification by Marshall guitar amps by this time. He still used the rotating Leslie‘s along w/ Marshall stack. John said he had to be more exact with the attack of the Marshalls.

Lord's organ often gets mistaken for a guitar *or a spaceship, not just because he was insanely talented and innovative with his playing, but he often fed it through a guitar amplifier Also PLEASE listen to more Cream Live! 🤟👹❤ Deep Purple also has some absolute live BANGERS Just so fckn cool and good music man (i'm from '94) *Oh i forgot you already did some Purp Live, but there is so much more! I don't understand how we lost the appreciation of the organ in rock music. Before the rise of synths, many rock bands utilized the Hammond B3 organ to fill out their sound, it fell to the wayside around 1970 with the invention of the Moog synthesizer.

When I was a kid watching older teenagers drunk wiggling around listening to this exact jam, I thought they were extremely weird. Then later I must have became "Weird!" too. Deep Purple "Smoke On The Water" got radio play, and a few other songs. They mostly got pigeonholed later as 'just another band', but I can remember "Deep Purple" logos everywhere. I mean everywhere. Bumper stickers, tags on buildings and signs, kids drawing "Deep Purple" on notebooks. I was the white kid playing basketball mostly listening to Motown. I'm probably still more Motown over Deep Purple, but I dig both now. It's hard to describe in a plain vanilla world how Deep Purple tags and identity made society shift, but I do remember Deep Purple fans didn't fall for the KISS nonsense.

That's John Lord on the organ. Hammond B3 to be exact. The clean to slightly dirty sound is through a Leslie speaker, as is usual for a B3, but Lord came up with a way to split his signal and also run through a Marshall guitar amp stack with a special controller. That's why it can sound so dirty and very much like a guitar at times. Coolest organ sound ever!!

Hey Guy's, how about some good down home southern rock from a wonderful band from Spartanburg S.C. with the great flutist/vocalist Jerry Eubanks. This should have your toes tapping👞👠 "Take The Highway - Marshall Tucker Band" The Marshall Tucker Band helped to establish the southern rock genre in the early 70's and were well known for their infusion of blues, country and jazz which helped to establish a multifarious sound that was very creative and on par with another southern rock band with a similar sound; and were just as famous in the same time period, the Allman Brothers Band which used elements of blues, country rock and gospel rock in their music. Both of these bands were very entertaining and highly successful "jam bands." Both of these bands hold a special place in my heart.
