One of the best reactions. Unfortunately this entry is rarely used for reactions, well done. Indeed the drums are the heartbeat of the band and it is the rhythm that makes the band (not just this one) special, so for me having Paice in the band is enough reason to love this band to this day. Moreover, there is also Gillan and Glover. As for the song itself, it was the first thing the band wrote when they got together. And if it came out in 1968 in this form, today, I think, there would be no questions about who is the first heavy band in the world. Gillan's voice gives musicians the ability to go loud and use overdrive and distortion to the fullest, and Gillan himself completes all this with his pure metal voice. Superb!

The studio version of the song with Rod Evans singing is just not the same. I am so glad they brought Gillan and Glover on board. They definitely allowed Blackmore to play the way he wanted to.

PS, just my opinion but I could almost see the foundations of speed metal being laid in this performance.

Drums are often overlooked, but always the most important part. 🤟👹❤

@@jamesharper3933bands from that era often were better live than in a studio (were too many producers put their input in it) Thats why i love Cream and especially Baker that much 🤟👹❤ It can be the other way around as well, the Stones are one of the best studio bands of all times, but i dont like most of their live stuff 😅 Either way, i envy everyone who lived through that era and got to experience probably the best time period this world ever had to offer for the human race

Mandrake Root criminally overlooked by KZfaq reactors. Thanks for doing this. Also worth checking out is the live version of Wring That Neck/Mandrake Root from the 1969 Jazz Bilzen festival. It's about 25 minutes long but is worth it. Ian Paice has an amazing drum solo. This was just before the release of the historic In Rock album. A version of Deep Purple we never would have seen if Rod Evans and Nick Simper were still in the band at that point. Thanks.

Somewhat butchered in the editing, but still a lot to enjoy. If you haven't seen them, the performances from Bilzen and Paris filmed at around the same time probably have more musical content.
