This whole episode is so shocking in all the right ways. Proper satisfying seeing those ping pong balls move at mach 1.4, those implosions, and one vacuum cleaner lifting a damn car... Immense! 😄😊 The deep sea diver was gopping! And gotta say, I LOVE high explosive blasts, it's exciting, and seeing a shockwave move absurdly fast on high speed footage, but implosions are just as cool, but there's something eerie AF too! 😳

Black powder brings its own solid oxidizer, so it doesn't need the oxygen from the air to burn. Also, inside that bottle rocket there would never be enough air oxygen to make carbon burn that quickly.

I think the big "moving to be dismantled" markings on the side of the tank car give away why they let the mythbusters near that thing.

Yes, also the tank was the supporting element on car so it had to be very strong. Most tank cars I seen is more like an tank sunk into an rail car so the tank is not structural and can be much thinner.

@@magnemoe1 These tanks must be somewhat thick for other reasons, so I don't think you can find one that's 'thin' by any measure. Though I agree that there may be ones more susceptible to pressure due to their construction even without damage all the same, so some could potentially succumb to a collapse under the myths conditions. Just that this one didn't.

Fire department scrap cars always have the engine removed, as well as all the fluids. That way they can cut the car open without any added danger.

Hmm... I was sure I'd seen the ping-pong bit before, so I went to the ep-list on wikipedia. According to it, "supersonic ping-pong balls" originally aired in March 2014 (2nd myth tested in that ep was "Ice Cannon"). The deep-sea myth however was first aired in November 2009 on the "Dumpster Diving"-episode. Which seems to fit the reference to Kari's pregnancy/maternity leave which happened in 2009. And lastly, it seems to me that the narrator's voice sounds quite a bit different than usual - either due to age or perhaps illness.. not sure. I'm pretty certain this is still Robert Lee, but he does sound very different. The drastic change in his voice plus the vastly different original air-dates of the two myths lead me to suspect this was some sort of "clip-show" episode where they didn't revisit the myths but simply spliced together old material to create a "new" episode.

I wonder what would happen if they were to say add a few layers of epoxy or something like that too not only make the seal around the ping pong ball better, but also to add a little bit of weight to it if it would be a lot more effective and destructive, would be interesting to see the result

To be fair, that was already a lethal shot. I'm not sure why they said it's not. If that hits you anywhere on your head or neck instead of the body, you're dead. If it hits you on the body there's still a risk of you bleeding out at the least. That was pretty widespread damage, a chunk of the body was demolished. On the shot, you can see the tissue behind the thick skin (much thicker than humans) outright separating.

Ahahahah one cameraman keeps getting spooked by small vaccum implosions, jumps and bounces the camera twice in those two minutes of the episode xD 22:04 . Obviously he wrecked the footage with the jump and they only kept half a second for dramatic effect. I hope he managed to sooth his jump scare reactions xD otherwise I don't think he was MB cameraman much longer

Thinking if this is just a directors choice to have one cameraman react like an amateur. They seem to add a lot of these half a second of footage with camera-shake. It kinda fits the vibe for surprising events...

@@ZzaimonixX What does that have to do with skills of a cameramen? Surprising effects are surprising. That's why if you're doing something that can scare somebody, you do not USE a cameraman in the first place unless you want to see their surprise in the footage. His job wasn't at risk due to this. If they needed a static image then they would have gotten one with a simple tripod. It's as simple as that.

A bit goofy wondering while doing otherthings while this playes in the background... Suddenly I got surprised that speed of sound is a standard. Mind wondering if speed of sound would be different in Argentina compared to Iceland or something. Just a goofy thought. But can these be modified to somehow be less needed? Could be a very effective way to spook people up if speed of sound with some tecnic is broken within 100 miles per hour.

The speed of sound in air is constant, regardless of where you are on earth. Change mediums, like water or other dense liquids and the speed will change. Sound is a pressure wave, after all.

@@ssam1337 Lower pressure actually reduces the speed of sound. At sea level it's 760 mph, but at 55000 ft it's 660 mph

@@kemico1272 Ok, so my goofy idea is getting somewhere. Thanks for the information. Not sure how to efficiently lower air preassure in large area to make the idea to have any effect. Lowering air preassure in some random location would be as sci-fi type of tool as using sonic booms as useful one.

@25:00 heating the drum with fire, standing on wooden stuff? ... The rocket and the "patrone" (don't know the english word of the pistol loading, have the oxygen by itself. So it is a stupid experiment, it will fire. See the rockets in space.

Arguing about rockets in space is actually quite weird, considering that right after that they brought up the myth about solid rockets supposedly not working in space (and busting it all the same). This comes from people not understanding the chemistry behind rockets or guns. It may seem 'obvious' to somebody that does, but if everyone knew everything everyone else does, there would be no myths to begin with.
