Marlena can stand for music too, but I think here she's more like a muse, an inspiration behind their songs. I read this song as them being afraid of losing their inspiration, not being able to create any more music. When Marlena feels too distant, it's like a writers block, when the will to create something is there but nothing is coming out. There are many versions of translations, sadly most of them somewhat lacking. Some of the translators seem to understand the meaning perfectly but their English isn't good enough, while others write perfect English but misunderstand the original meaning. Generally it's a good idea to compare the Italian lyrics to English ones line by line from different versions, so you'll get a feeling of what the actual meaning is. Especially if you know some Portuguese, that should help noticing obvious errors. Not something you'd do in a reaction video, but if you really want to understand the concept of Marlena that pays off 🙂

Now that you've been hearing these versions with lyrics, you might enjoying having a watch of the music videos; they're pretty on point. Also, both this and Torna a Casa were from their first album (Il Ballo della Vita. In that one Marlena was a concept that can be found in several songs), which was released in 2018. This version you just watched was performed live last April. So you'll really find the original quite different (much less grunge-y, less mature perhaps, but in a way even more melancholy). Both extremely enjoyable, in my opinion, especially if you keep the lyrics at hand (Torna a Casa, in particular, is quite artistic, in the sense that small details of the video match the lyrics and the rest is just representation).
