Catch your Flounder (for bait) and then go catch your Lingcod.....
That's the drill. Or, perhaps use Kokanee for bait, you have choices.
Eitherway, it's always a good time with the FHN Crew on the water with our buddy, Captain Ben Overmars.
700 Ft. of water, electric reels and a screeming good time-

FHN is a weekly LIVE broadcast right here on our KZfaq channel, Thursday evenings, 6:00-8:00 pm, West Coast time. Fish Hunt Northwest strives to bring a quality produced outdoor fishing and hunting show to you each week, in a talk show format. FHN will consist of insightful/educational conversation that will tackle the tough political topics, others do not want to engage in. We work hard to bring you the factual-information, not just more internet opinionated banter.
Every episode will also include plenty of in-studio guest and phone interviews with guides and outfitters to get you the latest reports around the Puget Sound, the Northwest and beyond.
Every show will also include a Tri-State weather report, covering WA, OR, & ID to give you a great look at the weekend forecast so you can plan your outdoor adventures.
Each week we will also bring you plenty of "How-To's" covering everything from rigging in all facets of fishing, curing bait, filleting fish, processing meat, etc.
Be sure to tune in every week as we will also be in the kitchen, always cooking fish, fowl and game with Chef Kelly, bringing some of the very best outdoor recipes on the planet.
FHN is a very well-rounded show with endless topics. join us each week, get educated and entertained...

Best show in the Pacific Northwest USA. Got to love the sound of the aluminum bat off that monster ling.

I'd love to do more of this and make lingcod the focus. I've tried catching sand dabs or flounder for bait several times and wasn't very successful.... only catching a few and moving a number of times. Can you share more about how to catch flounder/sand dabs? What you look for in depth/bottom and the rigging/bait? Thank you

Hey Eric, typically with Ben we find flounder/sanddabs out SW or NW in 180' to 190' water, look for sandy bottom on your sonar and also look for suspended fish. They will be up in the water column at times. Dropper rigs, three hooks and pieces of clam neck work great- durable and stay on for multiple fish... Good luck and thanks for tuning in..

Those electric reels are cool. Personally, I enjoy the fight more than the catch. But still a cool video regardless.

Thanks, It's definitely an option. We do both, sometimes when it's a full on harvest fest, the electrics can be so efficient... More time in the water, when you fish 600 to 800 FT. Faster up and down when you need to relocate 😉

Took multiple screenshots of the electric reels - a recommendation? Wonder what the proper fusing and wire size would be, and one? for each rod/reel? I know better than to ask - but Lat and Lon for Lings and Halibut?? Moving to Olympia this summer. Well edited Vid - thanks!

Don - we use Daiwa Tanacom 750s, loaded with 65lb or 80 lb braid. The reels come with the power chord you need as the connection to the reel is a proprietary plug. They come with gator clips and I reterminate with a downrigger (Scotty) plug. For the location, target areas within 1 mile of a shelf that goes into a canyon or continental shelf and has a Rocky or hard pan bottom. GOOD LUCK!

The day i use a electric assisted or electric reel to catch fish is the day i no longer have hands to reel a fish. My grandpa would roll in his grave if he saw me doing that

I use to say the same thing. But when you spend a lot of time in the deep water, when allowed.... 6 to 800 ft. It's a great way to put groceries in the freezer. We do sports fishing on all types of fishing all season long. This is all about the harvest and a good time with buddies. It's not one of our full on sport-fisheries.

This was not a Charter, just a friend of ours that we fish with. Look into All Rivers & Saltwater Charters. They are friends of ours and a top notch operation. Be sure to let them know that FHN sent ya. ;-)

Sorry but not my cup of tea. There is no sport there; it's more like fish shopping. The only part which required the fishermen to touch a fish or put in a little bit of effort was when they put the bait on the hook, otherwise they may as well be wearing white dress gloves and sipping cocktails.
