The most prominent teacher of mysticism and New Age philosophy in the West Deepak Chopra goes toe to toe in a debate with Christian apologist Greg Koukl on Lee Strobel's show "Faith under Fire". This episode called "The Future of Faith" aired in 2005.
To view the entire Faith Under Fire series, you can purchase 10 episodes of this program through Zondervan via the following link: www.zondervan....
Chopra, who has written two books on the topic of Jesus, seems to be at loss for words as the well-researched Koukl keeps correcting him on his false view of Jesus, his false doctrine, and the historicity of the Gospels. Chopra's Eastern/secular interpretation of Jesus does not seem to hold water when confronted with someone who teaches apologetics and defends the faith for a living.
These two segments were the only ones I could find that were decent quality. Full debate can be found here (poor quality): • Video

because reading a book is equivalent to having blind faith. and selling a book is equivalent to an act of faith.

He never said he was against books, lol. What he means is that you should be able to question books, and learn from them, rather than have Blind Faith in it. I have read some of deepaks' books and I think they are inspiring but don' t have blind faith in them as if they were gospel. There is a difference.

@@joaquindelarosa1215 yeah, you got it right. In the Eastern Traditions, especially in Sanatan Dharma or The Eternal Way (popularly known as Hinduism) there is no concept of believing but rather of seeking. There is complete freedom of questioning the saints or the books (there isn't one book either). This allows one to explore their inner divinity and find the answers on one's own. But at the same time there is reverence for the saints and books for they act as guiding lights to reach the ultimate truth or the highest self. Also, unlike Christianity which believes in everyone being an original sinner (sin arising from the deed on another person; Adam and Eve's), the Sanatan Dharma believes in everyone being originally divine and the quest is to rediscover this divinity dormant within. (Also, it believes in the concept of Karma; the one creating the casues is responsible for it's effects and not of other person's causes) The tradition itself is so liberating and so conducive to the ever questioning human nature that one feels boundless in the quest of the ultimate truth or the highest self.

You, silly thing, who did create your Father God and if he was so great why did He have to make the Devil knowing he would bring evil. If the Father God was so omnipotent, why did He leave the evil thrive, unless it was for good, and His aim, not the Devil's or someone's fault.I cried on every 3d page of Chopra's 2008 Jesus Story of Enlightenment where Jesus says to Satan He (God whoever He is, Father and/or Sin and/or Enlightened Mind part of One Higher Vibration Consciousness) has noy not kill him (Satan) as He is waiting for Satan to start loving Him and that that day would come inevitably. If you had a FLEXIBLE mind / thinking, would would coprehend that the evil shows up the good. No good to appreciate without evil and if you had a slight idea of physics / mechanics you would know that it is a fundamental law that THRUTH HAS MORE THAN TWO SIDES TO IT, and per QUANTUM PHYSICS NOTHING FAILS, that is anything is possible. Chopra is not denying that silly thing Koukl's point of view, which he and those same as him create a reality to go on after DEATH, though the ABSTRACT FATHER GOD has not told us what is to go on after the 1000 years Kingdom / or how to handle an eternal heaven where someone could go nuts from doing the same thing all eternity, while Chopra is showing you the option of ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES AND RENEWAL. Regarding the Bible noone can convince me those who wrote it had the full kbowledge, the direct words of Jesus are few, most are someon else s view, and noone can convince me the present day Bible includes all the true Jesus had in mind and that it has not been modified by authorities. I am from Thrace (Macedonia) in BUL-Garia on the BAL-Kans where Christianity first spread in Europe from and my ancestors has an own perception of God previous to the Hellenized Romanized decided to make use of Christianity as means of the authorities to subdue the masses in the Roman Empire/ the Byzantium. All accross BUL-Garia and the BAL-Kans there are hundreds of ruins of Ancient churches which the Hellenized Romanized said were ruined by the vulgar barbarian Sclavo-Vulgarians (BUL-Garians) presented as invaders from the North and North East when it turns out Sclavo BUL-Garians are local BAL-Kan people who have lived here since at least 8000 years and did not invade the Roman Empire but took control of their own homeland. The Hellenized Romanized Orthodox version of Christianity was imposed in BUL-Garia for POLITICAL reasons in the 9th cent and the Bogomils who were not ok with that had to escape to the West - Italy, France (Pirineus) where they gave rise to various spiritual movements which led to the protestantism and revision of the old conceptions. The Bible was put tiogether at church councils by sinful men like you and me who in the end were no better in flexibility of mind, forgiveness, compassion, creativity for good and reciprocity,,that is LOVE, than you and me. Those pretending Jesus healed their souls SHOULD ask themselves what is the use of this healing and if they are ready to SACRIFICE THEIR LIVES AND WELL BEING JUST AS JESUS DID!!! Is tgat silly thing Koukl ready to go on a cross and suffer THE PASSIONS OF THE CHRIST. And who said His name was Jesus or Isa - it was Yeshua - a simplest example how that Bible is RELATIVE, THAT IS ONLY ONE POINT OF VIEW TO THE TRUTH. Nothing Fails!!! Think a 1000 times!!!

Matthew 24s last day birth pangs are coming into fruition slowly alongside 2 Peter 3:10 describing climate change/global warming in the last days. The moon is slowly rusting/turning red which should be impossible with the lack of oxygen and water there, which have scientists stumped and trying to figure out theory’s. Have you ever delved into fine tune physics? Science doesn’t have the answer for everything nor do we. God can literally not be disproven by science and alongside history, time stamps, and archeological excavations there’s enough proof out there for one to believe. Heck even Matthew Maury discovered ocean pathways through the bible. What other Religion has announced things before science even figured it out like the hydrologic system, the earth hanging on nothing, and the life of the flesh being in the blood. As an ex witch/new ager who found Jesus a few months ago I hope someone else can get pulled out of darkness like me....If not all the best and take care whoever might read this. There’s a higher power out there stronger than any divination or witchcraft out there 💯 🕊

Correct. You have no doubt at the vast truth there is far our past the box of Christianity. It doesn't mean that Christianity is wrong or untrue, it just means there is more. More that our minds cannot even possibly grasp, which is why most are content with their faith and the bible - and that's perfectly ok. But there are some who realize there is more and are ok with the mystery of more. One who has been filled with the spirit, and given the gift of knowledge - has a change heart and has then eyes to see and ears to hear.. and there is more. MUCH MUCH MORE.

You've got the blinders on, for sure. It was the Christian who was getting uncomfortable and angry. Chopra looked pretty chill until the Christian described him as"disingenuous," which was a polite way of calling Chopra a liar. But Chopra saw through that hence the subsequent anger. As for the Christian claiming he has good reasons for believing in Christ as if that separates him from other faiths is a laugh, because that is exactly what other faiths claim. And then the Christian adds there's consequences for making wrong choices and that makes sense in our ethical behavior as it pertains to man's laws, but we're talking about an accurate ontology which is entirely an unrelated topic. For all intents and purposes, he's made salvation into an episode of Let's Make a Deal, where the contestant has to guess if it's door number one, two, or three. There's no way that anyone can possibly know 100 percent if Christ is who he says he is. Even John the Baptist wasn't sure when his head was on a chopping block. But here's the real question, why should my eternal destiny be dependent on my limited ability to know ultimate truth? Either parts of the Bible were poorly written or people have interpreted it wrongly or God is an unreasonable, blood thirsty madman. I find it unacceptable to believe God is an illogical, blood thirsty madman. And if the Bible truly portrays him as such, then I am compelled to disbelieve that portion of the Bible. It was, after all, written by men who are fallible, even if inspired by God. Quit making a book into God. That's idolatry. God is much bigger than any book.

@geralddecaire6164
@geralddecaire6164 2 жыл бұрын
@@sudhak5057 I guess I'm some where in between. I believe Christ to be far more significant than those other names you mentioned. Those other names never mentioned anything resembling the statement, when you see me you see the Father. Even Christ admitted to not being equal to the Father, but having the fullness of the Holy Spirit meant that as far as a human can, he mirrored the character of God. In so much as it was possible, Christ reflected the nature of God more than any other human and in my opinion, merited the title, Son of God, with a capital S. And I also believe he truly was the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except by me. He was essentially the incarnation of that ubiquitous God mind localized and in the flesh. To me, God is the Logos and is the necessary being and agency responsible for all of the intelligible patterns and non mediated information in the universe and is thus the creator of all things. God is mind at large and we're all a part of it. Now note that just because Jesus said he is the way and the life is not the same as saying that if you don't find that path in this life that you're going to have the flesh stripped from your bones while burning in a hot furnace for eternity. That's a bunch of crap invented by the church for political control and I have a few verses that make pretty clear that God gives us many chances to mature as agents. I believe we have always been eternal and we're here to learn about love in this school of hard knocks called earth. If you don't learn, you suffer a little more pain and remorse until you learn compassion and empathy. God isn't just loving, God is love. And everyone will be given a fair chance to evolve or end up hanging out with like minds. That being said, I also subscribe to the possibility I'm utterly full of shit so that at least takes me out of the dogmatic camp.

Sandy Staab Or they think it's the best example of a concept describing extremely unnecessary suffering that has ever been created. Maybe they find a God causing eternal unnecessary suffering and calling it perfect justice is a bit... unbelievable.
@sanfordstaab
@sanfordstaab 7 жыл бұрын
The laws of gravity allow for a rock to hit an innocent little girl and cause her to slowly die in pain. This does not mean that the author of gravity meant it to cause suffering. The same goes for a god that creates free agency/will. Once sin starts, there is no way to stop its consequences of death and suffering without removing free will which destroys the option to love and be loved. The death of Christ shows us how much the Christian God really cared about our suffering because He took it (death and suffering) on himself for our benefit. On the other hand, a free agent that purposely causes suffering - by rebellion to the moral laws God has established - is in fact guilty of causing the suffering (something God is not) - and since this is an offense against a perfect God, it may possibly justify an infinite punishment - although do realize that there are at least 3 scripturally justified views on hell. See Steve Gregg's recent book "All you wanted to know about hell" for the details.
@toxendon

Now that's not saying He wants them to "be tortured eternally" but rather "desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Tim 2:4-5)

God of the Bible also allows slavery, including selling your own daughter as a sex slave (Exodus 21:1-11), child abuse (Judges 11:29-40 & Isaiah 13:16), and bashing babies against rocks (Hosea 13:16 & Psalms 137:9). This type of criminal behavior should shock any moral person. Actually Chopra gave an honest answer. There is no one has came back to tell the tale. Do you know anybody who died for a whole entire week and then came back and was able to explain what's going on after we die? No.. Simple example that Christianity is the truth :> Imagine a person whom you love the most in your life being murdered by a man. Police arrests him and takes him to the court. The accused man says to the Judge that he is a good man, that he has done many many good things that this crime is nothing when compared to his good works. The Judge investigates his life and his records and comes to the conclusion that " yes, he is a good man, his good works overcomes this crime". The Judge makes him free. Now, you decide whether this Judge is a good Judge or bad Judge. Certainly, he is a bad one. Likewise God is a judge who judges with justice. Our sins must be punished whatever the sin is. The sin which are small in our eyes are big in the eyes of God. The punishment of sin is death. Physical death and Spiritual Death. So God loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten Son as a punishment for our sins so that we get saved. So God came into the world as man and lived a sinless life so that he would be a perfect sacrifice for us. This is the great love of God. Amazing Grace.
@Rachano
@Rachano 6 жыл бұрын
mathew george I hope you don't mind, but I would like to recommend a few things you may want to change with that. 1. Don't say God will punish us. It may be true, but often it is valuable to make sure it doesn't make Him sound "mean". The way I think of it, sin is a disease and Jesus is the cure. 2. If you intend to use this as a sort of proof of God, I should tell you it is not very compelling to atheists. I hope that's not offensive... just wanted to help. Good news is, you know more about God than the average Christian. (Or maybe that's bad news...) regardless, God keep you. InB4 atheists try to roast

When Chopra said he was uncertain I think that was humble. Unless I am mistaken in the mystic world where that would be a good thing. But, I like that Jesus is real and can be known and found. So, as far as anyone being confident in Hindu, Buddha, etc....I think that they are not because their god is dead. Jesus is the only living God and I say that truthfully with love. Because Jesus is real, alive, risen, in charge and willing to allow all whosoever wishes to come unto HIM for Eternal Life it is possible to find fulfillment in him.

Consider this: many people of different faiths (or no faith) who have experienced near death experiences (NDEs) see Jesus and many things talked about in the Bible, and after their NDE they become Christians. Not just NDEs: people of different faiths also see Jesus and hear Him. And they claim it's a very overwhelming experience. No one ever saw Buddha or Mohammad when they died and came back. And Jesus said He is the ONLY way. Take these together and I think you can draw your own conclusions. Bow your knee to the Lord now or bow your knee as you're about to be cast into the pit for rejecting the sacrifice Jesus paid for you on the cross. Either way, you WILL bow your knee and proclaim Jesus is Lord!!!

-WHY THE GOD OF THE BIBLE: 1.- If God exists, why He doesn't speak to us in person (why His separation)? The answer is because of our original sin. 2.- If God is life, why do we have to die? The answer is original sin. 3.- If God is perfect & His creation is good, why are we such a mess of human race? The answer is because of our original sin through our free will. Original sin is only taught in Christianity and is the only way to make sense out of this reality we are living. Love creates and preserves, hate kills and destroys, and the only way to claim a God of love is through Jesus Christ.

Wonder if his physician says that to him, "I'm going to rely on the wisdom of uncertainty and I'm comfortable with that." Will dr. Chopra be still as comfortable 🤔👨‍⚕️

So Chopra is presented with good evidence for the Christian claim and does not offer any evidence to refute that claim, and concludes he's uncertain. At that point he should stop arguing. He's done. But, of course he wasn't, and that is ignorant hubris. To still be arguing, without a leg to stand on is sadly typical. He then resorted to an argument which basically says people with opposing viewpoints are certain of those viewpoints, therefore the Christian's argument should not be taken seriously, and the uncertain viewpoint should? Ludicrous! Ignore all evidence? This man, Chopra, doesn't even value simple logic and reason. He can't be taken seriously. It's sad that so many have paid for his thoughts.

I once asked a friend about this debate. He is a fan of the New Spirituality and he said he likes Chopra's stand. I wanted to say, "Forget about whose views you like, which one did you think spoke the truth?" Even though I did not get the chance to ask this, I think it is very telling that his evaluation of the debate was not based on Truth but on his feelings. Besides, Chopra is obviously a deceiver or completely ignorant of anything outside of his superficial thought system echo chamber. In his book, Why Jesus?, Ravi Zacharias eviscerates Chopra, showing him for the charlatan he is.

Ribb Rotgut Greg answered each and every one of the questions very completely and eloquently. It's funny how all the anti-christian people in the comments here are saying, "Deepak won and the Christian guy just couldn't answer any of the questions". What? You guys must not be watching the same video. More likely, you're all just hearing what you want to hear.

I'm a former Hindu who found Jesus 6 years ago. Hinduism had nothing to offer to break free from sin except try harder, which only led to more failure and disappointment. Most of what I've found in Hinduism doesn't even line up with reality. Jesus is a real historical figure who claimed to be God and have power over life, death, and resurrection. 6 years ago I abandoned all other gods to follow Jesus and He has redeemed me of a life of homosexuality. I have a new identity in Christ. "He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him (Christ) because He always lives to intercede for them." Hebrews 7:25
