I personally feel like there's a difference between heat damaged and heat trained hair. Like I consider your hair heat trained if it straightens more easily bc its used to heat but still reverts when washed. Its heat damaged if its just straight and doesn't revert back at all. I don't see the two terms as interchangeable but some do. I dont see a problem w/either or if you don't use heat at all. Whatever works for you!

I agree. My hair is heat “trained”. My hair is easy to straighten and it usually stays straight until it’s shampooed. If I’m caught in the rain, I may get a little curly, but it remains straight for the most part. Once thoroughly soaked for a shampoo my curls return. I love it like this since I never wear my natural curls.

i hope you see this....i know so many men (usually men who have sisters or men who dated a woman who was really into their hair, or men who are just fascinated with hair) enjoy watching hair videos...or watching women get their hair done. I had a homeboy who i have/had a totally plutonic relationship with and i remember when i was in my 20s he used to love to talk on my hair day when he was at my house...but he has sisters...it was literally how we bonded.

Natural means you rock your hair out your scalp. I never here ppl screaming and shouting at non black women who straighten there hair everyday. So I’m not sure why being heat trained bothers so many people. Anything a black woman does engages others. We in our own community need to support and not knock each other ! We’ve no weave. Blessings Kee, I can remember when I first decided to subscribe to your page. You came to the aide of this little Muslim girl who was bullied at school. Those bullies removed her hijab and cut her hair. You invited her to your salon to fix and minimized the damage done to her hair and made her feel pretty again. That so touched my heart that I had to subscribe. I just love your videos and I love watching a professional at work trying to teach us how to maintain our hair. I'm just so proud of of you and I'm proud to be subscribed to this channel. Have a wonderful 4th.

Her hair is so pretty! I’ve been wearing natural hair since 2005 or so. I’ve never been able to keep a straight style for long because my hair is naturally wavy/curly. Other than blow drying after washing, I haven’t had any heat on my hair. I comb it, part it on the side, twist it, tuck comb it and pull it into a bun. I’m in desperate need of a trim, lol. My hair is heat trained. Prior to it being heat trained, I tried getting into wearing it in its natural state, but wasn’t successful. Because I do not wear my natural curls, heat trained hair has been honestly appreciated. I no longer worry about it frizzing when I wear clip ins or extensions and it always being straight helped with growth retention since I no longer fight fairy knots. I have seen pictures making me miss my waves at times, but ultimately I enjoy it.

I love heat training my hair. I can go out in the Atlanta humidity and it doesn't revert. I'm not wearing my curls so it's cool for my bonds to be broken. If you love your curls, I wouldn't suggest heat training because it's hard to tell how much your bonds will be broken and you can end up with straight pieces.

Because curls get sweated out but that pony stays SLEEK in the heat and keep ya head warm in the cold! Curls keep ya head warm too! I prefer people heat train their hair versus a relaxer because of how dangerous the chemicals are. Too many people think fibroids and endometriosis are just a way of life and they are NOT! As a person who used to have long natural hair, I preferred my hair heat trained. I did not have a perm, but I was going to a stylist every two weeks and tried to put minimal heat on my hair in between appointments. Heat-trained hair does not mean that your hair is damaged. I have always had a thick, full head of hair. Even right now with my hair cut short, my hair is so thick that people think it is fake. For me, heat trained hair is about ease of maintenance. I also liked wearing my long hair with a little bit of curl, because I felt like I could get two styles out of it. I would wear it curly for one week, wrap it and let the curls fall for another week, and then could do buns/ponytails/half up half down on week three. It allowed me to minimize the heat even though I primarily wore heat styles.

Honestly, when your hair is straight, it distributes this sebum and other nutrients that are supposed to travel down your hair and otherwise can't do that while it's curled up and or frizzy because,it's too difficult for it to maneuver throughout your hair. Being straightened makes that easier and also the heat from the tool you're using or even just the sun itself helps it travel down to the shaft and into the ends of your hair. That's why these other races have such long hair because, it's straight as well as all the nutrients are going down that hair whenever needed.

how can we make sure that sebum and other nutrients can travel down our kinky curly hair without straightning the hair?
@youmad_youtubegood8322
@youmad_youtubegood8322 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheSmily4ever I've seen folks with long hair section it and massage product into all small sections. People with low porosity hair need to somehow open those cuticles up. I would suggest taking your ends in your hands and rubbing them back and forth like you're trying to tighten locs with a good product like Carroll's Daughter.

Thank you, and you ain’t got to explain yourself about your professional approach. You’re still relatable, Kee! This is definitely me and my head. Remembering to angle my paddlebrush dryer down next time. I appreciate you. 💛 Also definitely experiencing the two different hair textures in my head because I never knew so that stops me from cutting off again, after I cut it 2 years ago. Happy belated Birthday, Keepee!!

I’m like you I like both! I wear my hair in it’s natural state all the time and straighten like once every 1-1.5 years. I prefer natural but straight/long hair makes me look so grown and feel like a baddie lol … it’s a toss up but natural wins for me. I like the “wow” factor when I straighten and don’t wanna lose it

Yeah I’m definitely one of those who has heat trained hair. I do a silk press 2 times a week, deep condition 2 times a week as well. Some of us don’t care for our natural curl pattern and I never ever where my natural curls. She is right tho you need to really deep condition and keep up with trims. Ps. I do alternate from silk press and doing my hair using the Dominican method. Shampoo, deep condition with heat, leave in conditioner, serum while the hair is wet, roller set and then blow out. I know a-lot of steps but I do find that roller setting the hair also keeps the moisture better in the hair. It doesn’t look dry like it does when you blow out wet hair.

12:48 Yeah went to great clips (cause it was 1min from home) for a $17 trim and that's exactly what I got. 😭 I was encouraged to go even though my gut told me not to, but I was like dang my stylist all the way on the eastside (I'm westside 30mins away) and gas is $5. Let's just say I should have listened cause if gas was $10 I would have went after that experience. 😭 She missed a lot when she trimmed my hair and told me it would be in layers if she trims it all the way through, Lort never again. My hairstylist fixed it some weeks later so I'm happy again. 😊 Traveling on the road with my husband who is a truck driver taught me that Walmart, great clips, fantastic sams, ect. those type of places (when I had no other choice) are not for me. They do not know how to handle African American hair (imo) even though they're taught to do all types. I could barely feel her fingers touch my scalp as if she was washing the air. 😂 Anyways her hair looks beautiful, just how I like to get my hair done from my real stylist. 💖

Love your content. I now love my hair in its natural curl pattern. I used to wear my hair straight all of the time so at one point I did not mind being “heat trained”. But when I decided one day to go back to my curls and my hair did not curl I was soooo sad. That’s when I first learned about heat damage. I may straighten my hair again one day but for now I don’t think I’ll go back anytime soon. I did the big chop in 2019 and so far I have not gone back to using any heat on my hair.

I was watching another hairdresser on KZfaq (no names no pack drill) and she was pressing the client's hair over and over, like 3-4 passes. I was sitting there telling the screen, "No! No! One pass is enough, just take it slow!" Guess l learned from watching you.

My hair got "heat trained" back in 2013 and honestly, the best photos I've ever taken with my hair shiny and beautiful were during that time. Even if it was 96% humidity outside, it still looked gorgeous. However, as time went by the ends just died. By 2015 I had a big chop to remove all the permanently straightened hair and started fresh. Then again in 2017 and 2019 because I couldn't leave the heat tbh. My hair grew strong after that 2019 cut because of the lockdown and not needing to press my hair that often. I got married in 2020 and 10 months after the wedding, I had about 12 inches cut to donate to cancer patients. But good Lord! My hair went frizzy as all hell and was practically uncontrollable. It would frizz up no matter how much product I used, and I just never looked good in pictures anymore. It was always poofy and frizzy and a little bit faded and gray looking. So here I am, using heat once again at least twice a month. I noticed some damage that I'm trying to mitigate, but other than that it's a lot more controllable now than it was a year ago right after the cut. So you can say I'm pro-heat training solely for aesthetics.
