বাংলাদেশে কৃষিতে আধুনিকতার ছোঁয়ায় এ দেশের জন জীবনেও এসেছে নতুন পরিবর্তন। সেই পরিবর্তনের ধারাকে অব্যাহত রাখতে চট্টগ্রামের বাঁশখালীর কৃষকেরা পাহাড়ি অঞ্চলে চাষ করছে বিভিন্ন জাতের শীতের সবজি। মাত্র তিন বিঘা জমিতে শিম চাষ করে প্রায় তিন লক্ষ টাকা আয়ের সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে এই কৃষকদের। এছারাও চাষ হচ্ছে বড় জাতের লাউ যার এক একটির ওজন প্রায় দুই কেজির মত, এই সকল অর্থকারি সবজি চাষের মাধ্যমে দেশের অর্থনৈতিক উন্নয়নে গুরুপ্তপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করবে এই অঞ্চলে কৃষকেরা।
