One big thing that helps that a lot of guys mention is offer and be willing to help the landowner. That may be a farm day, bush hog for them, or in urban areas offer to clean up leaves a couple times. Its worth it.

I agree. I’m not there yet but I’m considering getting a crop I can grow. Christmas trees or Lavender. Free help in exchange for hunting is definitely a way to gain access.

One of the most helpful as far as tips go for getting permission. I’ve been asking for years and got some yes’ but way more no’s. Didn’t even think about half of the things you spoke on in this video! Thanks man. Also I have an interview to be a land specialist tomorrow any tips you have for that would help too thanks ! Haha

Great Video! I was a bit nervous to approach a landowner about turkey hunting this coming spring but now I feel more confident and have a good baseline of what to say

Just be yourself. Come prepared and if you get a foot in the door ask questions about the farm. How long have you had it? It this a family farm that grandpa (for example) homesteaded. How many ac of tillable, how has yeild been, do you hunt? All these are ice breakers so take your time. I find some of these elderly folks may be suspicious at first but really, they will enjoy a sincere conversation. Finally, offer to work off the hunting. Mending fences, cleaning stalls maybe even driving a planter or a combine. Free labor is always welcome. Heck paint a fence or their house if you have to! Good Luck.

Have been preparing for this since last year. Found Multiple Target properties and just finished addressing the last of 40 envelopes,I figure by sending out 40 letters with A Lot of what you mentioned in your video may get me 1 positive answer. If not I xan always scratch these properties off and find some more sooner or later we will get permission for a piece of property . Thanks for the video

Letters are great. But don’t discount on the door! I have your letter prepared and with you when you go knocking. I said in this video we’re going to make an impression about you in the first 10 seconds or so, so be on your best behavior. I’m going to look like a nice guy, act like a friendly guy speak well. Be polite. Be honest. Good luck Capt Joe!

After years of asking permission on several farms in my area and getting turned down every year and being just as polite as I could be even offering to help around the farm I still got turned down. I decided to go another route basically but I said could I lease your property. In other words could I give you some money so I can hunt on your property and kill a couple deer I was amazed at the doors that opened doesn't always work but at leased my largest hunting property last year over 300 acres for a very modest fee and I'm the only one hunting it. Best of all it's 5 minutes from my house.

Awesome. Well if you can afford a lease might be the best way to go. If you are looking close to a well populated area getting in can be tough. Might have to travel an hour to get to a less populated area.

You might not give permission but would it not make you a little more comfortable if the person in front of you gave you all of there information if they had yours?

Do you have any advice for someone who is disabled but I really would love to go hunting with my son and grandson.

Hi Ramon? I would start with the local sport shop or gun club. I know in my area there are plenty of folks who will assist a disabled hunter and especially kids and donate a hunt. As far as an on going thing I think that you just need to get out and ask and eventually, you will find someone to let you hunt for free, or maybe a small fee. Maybe start with just asking for a weekend you might hunt. Eventually, maybe that turns into something more permanent. But for a quality experience, check into a local National Deere Association chapter, veteran organizations if you are a vet or a local club. I almost guarantee they will know someone willing to help. Offer to just hunt does, people always need does removed from a property. And if they are a little protective over their bucks that maybe an opportunity. Just be respectful of their wishes. I personally donate a hunt on my farm to a veteran organization so I know it is possible.
