Nice scoring I can get down with as a new deerhoof fan. Deerhoof is very experimental and the easiest to listen to of a wild indie band. I also agree that the title is very fitting.

It took me a few listens to be able to appreciate what they're doing here. I couldn't wrap my head around it the first few times, and even though I still don't understand the insanity of what I'm listening to, I'm loving the shit out of it. It's so surreal and abstract, I'm getting Trout Mask Replica vibes from the polarizing sounds and insanity in these records. They're both very jarring on first listen, but in their own unique ways.

YES! Thanks for the review, Deerhoof are the best. i`ve listened to the album about 20 times now. My first reaction was "YUS more noisy :D". Then it got the "Damn the singing is kinda boring and too loud compared to the great Guitar work". Then i was like "damn the ideas are great on this album, but as soon as you grasp on any they are already gone, this album is to all over the place, i wish it was more straight forward". Now im like its great, very creative, atmospheric, catchy, bright and friendly but also noisy and twisted. Altho id really wish they kept it a little more straight forward and keep the "kindergarten-kinda-sounds" a little shorter, i think its brilliant at what it is, the songwriting is just way more experimental then most "indie" listeners prefer.

Very sus Antony that you didn’t list Damaged Eyes as a Best track. That guitar breakdown midway in the song might be the most beautiful moment on the album imo. Gorgeous song

I think the Bach ending is them reiterating the ‘cave drawing’ sentiment, that the art that someone makes will last hundreds and hundreds of years after the artist is gone. And if the art is good enough people will still enjoy it in the future (i.e. Bach)

As in, the most influential artists who are creating new soundscapes that subsequently form into new genres. Ex: Skrillex played a major role developing the trap/pop genre (where are U now), Travis Scott exploring psychedelic-hip-trap-hop/however you want to categorize him, etc. In 2020, who do you think is at the cutting edge of sonic excavation?

I was hearing a lot of juana molina influence on this album. Songs like Zazeet and farewell sympohony has satomi using juana's pretty unique vocal stylings liberally. Which makes sense, as they collabed on mountain moves.
