Minister for defence procurement, James Cartlidge, says a "significant part" of the government's increased defence spending will be in the UK, insisting "we need to ensure that the money is well spent".
He also spoke to Kay Burley about the runaway horses in London and Labour's commitment to overhaul the railway network.

For all those unaware, the civil service has already been in a recruitment freeze (for the most part) for over a year. Depending on the department, as many 30% roles are being kept empty. These cuts would cripple what was left of the civil service, which would in turn cripple government.

The Tories have a terrible record on wasting money, with many of them with their stickily fingers in the dished out contracts.

I'm concerned about Google's growing monopoly and its recent terms and conditions that suggest users can simply "leave their platform" if they disagree. This overlooks Google's pervasive presence across mobile operating systems, online services, and advertising. Google's Android and Apple's iOS dominate the mobile OS market, limiting consumer choice and competition. Almost every third-party service has some connection to Google, giving it unprecedented control over the digital ecosystem. The idea that users can easily leave Google's platform ignores the reality of its dominance and the lack of viable alternatives. This highlights the urgent need to break up Google to promote competition, transparency, and consumer choice. Breaking up Google would address antitrust concerns and foster a more competitive digital landscape. It's time to ensure a vibrant and diverse digital economy that benefits everyone, not just a few tech giants.

According to Sunak's figures, In order to raise the £75bn over six years, each of the 72,000 civil servants they are removing would have to be on a salary of £173,611pa. That doesn't seem right to me

Removing illegal immigrants and visa overstayers would save that amount of money.

Didn't the government give itself a pat on the back for recruiting 50,000 more civil servants to deal with extra customs checks and paperwork following Brexit? As for the railways, the customer is already picking up the full cost of running them plus a bit extra to pay for dividends to shareholders and bonuses for the bosses.

Cheaper to buy American,German or French tanks then to develop an English tank as won’t buy enough to make it inexpensive They are already proven models

Worlds insane "what are their names"? Jesus Christ. Should retire the 'military horses' if they get spooked by loud sounds. Or at least make them familiar with unfamiliar sounds.

We need to have nationalised arms manufacturers or they will focus on profit rather than effectiveness. Nationalise BAE systems.

That makes no sense. Competitive companies make more profit. Competitive companies necessarily make better products in order to win market share.

@@callump9228 There should be no profit or dividends. All our tax money should pay for the weapons we need not shareholders. That's if we are serious about building our defenses. I believe the current price of a 155mm shell is more than 10 times the Russian equivalent.

@callump9228 I'd rather make a 98% effective warhead for a quarter of the cost of buying a private sector 1. It makes no sense to waste tax payers money on private companies for the majority of our military needs. Also, if private companies are always better, then why is our private water, energy and rail companies inferior to their nationalised variants in Europe?
@s0ycapitan
@s0ycapitan 10 күн бұрын
@@molsy1768 That's my view too. They want to scare us to enable more of our money to be laundered via the MIC. If we are really in danger then nationalise the arms companies. This system appears to work very well in Russia.

@callump9228 The whole competing companies and the profit incentive making best one the cheapest is a myth. Most things like that have been tax payer funded also they've pooled the human resources to make the best weapons. They've socialised the risk and privatised the profit. It needs to be nationalised.
