The Defender build continues this time with a steering wheel upgrade. I replace the old original Land Rover wheel with a Moto-Lita steering wheel and Optamil quick release boss. Here is a video on how I fit the optamil boss and steering wheel.

Man, I have to admit, taking a hit with that hard piece of plastic/rubber is better than taking a huge bolt to the orbital 🤣in all seriousness, those Defenders are nice vehicles!

Just a tip, when you're tightening bolts on anything round, do a criss cross pattern, like bottom right, top left, etc. Just keeps it more even and less likely for anything to work itself loose. Love these build videos!

About 30yrs ago I had a 1985 Austin Mini. Had to change the wheel as the original was fouling on my legs. Put a Mountney 12" on it and it was amazing. Same process as yours just there. Nice job Mike.

Awesome job. Looks amazing. Definitely the best way to stop anyone trying to steal your defender. Can't drive it without a steering wheel attached lol

Well that was an easy upgrade. The security factor is worth it. Looks like it gives you much more room with the smaller steering wheel.....Take care, Bluefin.

Having long legs, replacing with a slightly smaller, circular M-L wheel was brilliant. I can now move my foot between brake and accelerator whilst turning right!! Always a bonus.

Love the look of the steering wheel. I have looked at the Momo prototipo black edition but yours looks better. What moto Lito wheel is it and what size? Thanks and have just subscribed.

My Dad used to drive the family round in a few different Defenders over the years. I really wish they hadn't skyrocketed in price, otherwise I'd be owning one right now myself.

I might have missed it, but did you get rid of the old military Rover? That wheel just makes the vehicle "cooler" regardless of all the other advantages lol! Thanks Mike.

No I haven't got rid of the Military one. I have been waiting for some warmer spring weather to begin the restoration of it!
