OK, I think you just persuaded me not to paint my car myself but it did bring back happy youthful memories of painting a car wing in the rain; hair dryer in one hand, rattle can in the other and a blanket over my head to keep us both dry for long enough...

Should have mentioned about washing the car with paraffin and water before it is sold - nice shine! (for a day or two)

Graham - that paint dried like Mick Smiths paint job on that red car you had ( but without the dust)

Wwwwww ..... hardener
@jamescunliffe9872
@jamescunliffe9872 4 жыл бұрын
You could try suspending a heat gun about three foot above whilst spraying,works for me but be careful,extra hardener I've found to cause paint problems,thin coat of hardener rich then normal ratio mix over the first before it's fully cured seems to work

Gotta love a white roof on a landie. Really brings out the colour of the mildew and moss that'll ineviably grow in the corners and gutters. I absolutely loathe painting/bodywork but, unless you're determined to achieve an OEM look, might it be an idea to use one of those "bedliner" paints to get a tough/durable roof finish without a lot of effort? EDIT: Also, should say that pickup looks absolutely mint. Might be an old workhorse but it looks totally straight and solid.

Thanks - it is a good old truck and very solid but a back burner project

I don't think I've heard the word Aspenite for 30 years. Can't see why Defenders need roll bars when you see how strong the roofs are :-) My salamander heater is scary. I'm afraid to have it on in the shop when I'm in there, and afraid to have it on when I'm not :-)

Those salamander 's were hot but scary - Verboten to use engine oil as shop heat now ( they want you to buy fuel as it is taxed!!)

Nicely done Mike, I'm going to have to redo my whole truck later on when its all back together, was thinking of painting it the same white as my wife's 2012 90. I think that's Fuji White but not sure, anyway looks real white like your roof, so If I can't get that white I'll use the Alpine. :) PS:(I do have a crazy half a mind to do some sorta cammo scheme - was pondering Zebra, but SWMBO was not impressed with that idea)

Hmm, I have seen Zebra camo - not good for resale, but good for Daktari!

Hi Mike, How do you adjust the door gaps? On mine the drivers door leans back at the top so the door almost fouls on the truck cab behind, can it be adjusted without having to adjust the angle of the bulkhead? thanks
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 3 жыл бұрын
In many cases, people build by fitting the bulkhead first but bolt it tight to the chassis and expect the whole body to meet the bulkhead - this is the wrong way round kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i914grx40tqrfmg.html

Thanks for more great content Mike, hope you're staying warm in the snow. I own a hcpu td5 version and I'd like to remove the sliding rear cab window and just have it as a solid piece of glass, never really used the window here with our fabulous English weather and it's one less rattle. Do you think this is possible, maybe get auto glazier to cut and fit? Thanks Mike

Thanks Mike I am not sure what the UK regs are now but here you cannot use perspex or plexiglass for windows. Has to be laminate for retro fits but toughened is allowed if it is a direct replacement The only issue I can see for fitting a solid glass window is will the rubber cover the pop rivet holes? Mike

@@BritannicaRestorations Thanks for your reply Mike, I shall do a little more research on it. One thought was to use a framed grill to cover up the seal/old holes - this type of product www.landroverdefendersecurity.com/products/defender-rear-side-window-grills-black-steel Mines a farm vehicle not a posh thing, so was thinking of something simple. I have seen some rather expensive flip open/gull-wing ones Thanks again.

I’ve got shot of my ones now my insurance company is not keen on them. Will tolerate them in the metal working shop under strict conditions total no no in the wood working shop both diesel and gas.

Sand a piece of piece of plastic with a clogged disc or a carpet tile,friction semi melts the plastic and pulls of the clog! You can tell what the temperature is visually in the workshop from the extra hardener!!!lol
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 4 жыл бұрын
I think I mixed a hardener that was not for the paint - goes off eventually but the Nason with the correct hardener was just tacky in an hour and hard overnight - what a difference! Nice gloss too
