It was used as a patriotic anthem for the German Army during both the Franco-Prussian War and World War I, both of which were important for Germany. I hardly ever get touched by some film or something, but this video really give me some tears. I'm not German, I'm from Poland so in theory a opposite, but i have great respect to the Germans defending their Fatherland in 1944-45 and 1918. They didn't deserve what happend to them after both world wars.

Good video, but I have one comment: The mix of different eras throughout is a little confusing. It would have been helpful to have the Germans and the French each fight or march in a fixed direction, i.e. the French from left to right and the Germans from right to left.
