I can't believe I'm saying this but after my rewatch tonight I think it's the best live action batman film. It was a lot of fun. Kind of goofy, not too dark, colourful, fast paced, spectacular art design, felt like a comic book film. Loved it.

I think Batman Forever was really good and did a good job at carrying over the themes and ideas of its predecessors however because Shumocker screwed up do so bad with Batman & Robin it has hurt this movie’s legacy if this was the last of the 90s Batman I think it would be remembered much better today!

Great review, like "Batman Returns", I used to love this movie as a kid and early teens, however after the Nolan Trilogy, the love faded a bit. I remember commenting on "Nostalgia Critic's" review of the movie and someone brought up that the way this movie came wasn't entirely Joel Schumacher's fault. I'm gonna have to look up those deleted scenes that was mentioned in the reply, I did see bits of the first deleted scene. I like to think of this movie and "Batman Returns" as the movies that planted the seeds of absurdity, but we all what movie killed the old Burton franchise. Probably gonna have to re-watch this one sometime.

Good Review! Good Points about Two Face & Dr. Chase Meridian, I still love Kidman’s Performance though. The film still holds a soft spot in my heart to this day. I still wish that Burton got to do his Batman 3. I was just 6 years old when this came out! I still remember the hype train around this film, brings back memories! Look forward to more of your reviews. 😇

I totally get why this movie maintains a cult following. I just had grown adjusted to the art deco look of the Burton movies, so the neon and windy backdrops weren't a win for me personally. Warner were determined to make a toy friendly movie for kids and they succeeded

I like Batman Forever. As a kid I loved it because it finally introduced Robin. I love Robin and think it's a travesty that he's been absent from the last two decades worth of live action Batman movies. I think the addition of Robin would add a lot to any Batman movie, even a darker one, be it Dick, Jason, Tim, or even Damian. Contrary to popular belief it is possible to have Robin in a dark Batman movie. As an adult my love for Batman Forever has waned considerably. In comparison to the first two it's easily the weakest of the three, and don't even get me started on the fourth one (that movie is utter crap). Forever has it's high points, and I do like it, but the change in tone is in such stark contrast to what came before that they would have been better off just rebooting the franchise. If they'd done that I don't think the movie would get half the hate that it does today. WB had a great thing going and they ruined it just because some people couldn't handle dark Batman movies. Batman Returns is actually my favorite Batman movie of all time with the '89 Batman being a close second. I feel like Batman Forever and Batman and Robin are the reasons why Robin has been left out of every live action Batman movie since. Because he was a part of those movies it's like the idiots at WB falsely assume that he was the problem. He wasn't. While I like Batman Forever I can't help feeling like it's existence along with the next one doomed any chance of Robin (one of my favorite comic book characters) ever returning to the big screen.

Also, this was the very first Batman movie I saw as a kid, and it was my introduction to the character. It’s weird how Two-Face and Riddler were basically competing to be the next Joker 😂

I have not seen Batman Forever in over 20 years, so I can't say if I would like this movie now. I did like it at the time, but I was only 9 years old. However I still have nostalgia for things like this. Remembering the hype for it on TV and all the merchandise being sold around it. Being a kid in the summer of 1995 and waiting for the next Batman movie was great!

I actually really love BOTH Schumacher Batman films, although, admittedly, Batman Forever is the objectively better of the two. Especially when you consider the scenes left on the cutting room floor. (Arkham opening, Robin training scene, Father's notebook/Giant Bat sequence) I'd take cartoony Batman films (with little bits of dark & gothic moments) over stapled-on face Joker, bland & gritty plots, and uninteresting fight sequences. Batman gliding off the building into the Batmobile is a highlight of unique shots in cinema - and it's just one of the many great things about Batman Forever. But maybe that's just me. The dark, bland, and realistic films (like the MCU) tend to capture the imaginations (and wallets) of my peers. But I definitely prefer stuff like this. Warners' Board of directors's meddling and all!

I think that Batman Forever gets a bad rap because of its association with Batman and Robin. Batman and Robin's script is a copy-and-paste of Batman Forever (or should I say, "Batman Forever on Ice"?), with the camp turned way up, and the darkness turned way down.

Nicole Kidman laughed at her Chase Meridian role, "You have the criminal psychologist who dresses like Jessica Rabbit, wearing these sort of tight dresses. I'd say 'Joel [Schumacher], this is- [laughs] -this isn't believable, I can't do this.' And he would say to me 'Nicole, we're not dealing with something being believable. We are dealing with Gotham City, and it's my Gotham City.'" www.cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/Movies/bat_forever/kidman.html

Yes, which is pointless and unnecessary in a Batman movie. Vicki Vale was important to the story. Catwoman was important to the story. Chase Meridian served no purpose other than to be ogled and chased after by Batman. Her presence added nothing of value, with the exception of the scenes where she was actually being a psychologist.

I think if billy dee was in it, catwoman returned, and elfman scored it, the picture would have been a whoooole lot better, and more cohesive to the first two films. Gorshin was over the top in certain episodes as the riddler, but he did it with more style, and he was also very dark in a few episodes, whereas carrey was just ace ventura and a little too over the top, along with tommy lee jones' twoface. when I first saw the picture I was immediately taken back by the very first scene it was just a different vibe, where I was like what is this s#%&!!!! I think Batman Forever is the worst of the series. Batman & Robin was a toy commercial, Joel admitting numerous times it was 'toyetic'. The very cartoonish characters and outlandish vehicles all translated well to the Kenner action figure line. Going for camp and cartoonishness , it's exactly what they intended it to be a kids toy commercial........However with Batman Forever they were on the line, trying to be serious but its also too silly and cartoonish to be taken as serious as the 1989/1992 films. Jones' take on Two-Face was way too over the top in its silliness never making his motives clear, and The Ridder was one-dimensional, they were almost playing the same character. All the neon that's in the film took too much of the aesthetic away from the series and the silly Batmobile design- good grief. Chris ODonnell was way too old to be Robin, why did Bruce "have to take him in"-according to Cmr Gordon??? …......To me they are really two separate series, Burton and Schumacher. with the only thing barely stringing them together is Michael Gough and Pat Hingle, that's it. There is nothing else to connect the two series together at all.

That's because Batman Forever was tried to be made more campy in editing. The first cut was a lot darker and longer too. It also had more thematic and story connections to the Burton films (Even a flashback of Catwoman from Returns). But WB wanted their stupid Happy Meal money. #ReleaseTheSchumacherCut
