#keyboard Defining The END GAME - Owlab Vento 80
This Video is Sponsored by PCBWAY! PCB + CNC + 3D Print and More! www.pcbway.com/
The definition of an "End-Game" is very fluid... it can mean so many different things to different people. In my opinion, the End-Game Keeb is something that should feel "Special" when you hold it... and This Vento... def has that.

"endgame" is a meme term that keeps you buying expensive boards in the hopes that one might cure your keyboard purchasing addiction. the real endgame is realizing you love the keyboards you have and you don't really need any more because the ones you have look, sound, and feel good, and they do what a keyboard does: type. be happy with what you have and save up for a new hobby, get a dirtbike or something. this is coming from someone who loves keyboards. trust me

absolute fact. i have started to enjoy using my 2 keyboards (one for my main computer, one for work), even if stabilizers aren't perfect or whatever. they have soul in them and i like my keyboards for what they are, not what they could be. this also cured my switch purchasing addiction. i stick to what i have and all is well

I was never really a keyboard enthusiast, I just saw the opportunity to make my perfect board and I did, thanks to you and a lot of time and money t trying different things. Your videos helped me above all the other creators’, the last I “needed” being your video on the Akko Mod 003. Got one for myself in grey, waited for nigh on 3 years through covid for my GMK panels to arrive and at the perfect moment the zeal clickiez came out. Paired perfectly with the Rama works m6-C (the one that has a grey and prime colour retro gaming palette). Sure I kinda want a hall effect board for gaming but, mainly thanks to you and your videos, I can confidently say I have my endgame - I only come back to watch your uploads occasionally cause you’re a nice dude :)

This video actually made me appreciate my mister suit a bit more. I yearned for a vento but realized I was just bummed I didn't get the evolv and was fomoing on this one. The biggest thing I can appreciate about the vento aside from the matrix-esque design is that you can build it without the foams and have a nice bouncy typing experience and still get a good sound signature whereas the mister suit you kinda have to use all the foams because it sounded so weird without them but you end up with something stiffer.

Loving the content Scott (especially the Bond analogy)! Bummer about the hotswap sockets, I saw a board on Alexotos stream recently that was millmaxed from the factory, that seemed like something next level, I’d love to see that become the norm and replace the Kailh-style sockets! No risk of popping them out!

I'll be honest and say that Owlabs have kinda missed the mark, mainly because I think as a company they are kind of not sure where exactly they want to go for their higher end stuff compared to the qwertykey boards, particularly the neo series which pretty much captures most of the essence of old owlab boards in a ridiculously low price point due to high MOQ, simple-and-good design, and honestly these days, even wins out older owlab boards in the no-foam department, not to mention some pretty innovative engineering behind some of the board design choices like the magnetic quick connect, "stack" mounts options, etc. That left really little room to go for the higher end models besides going for more "aesthetic" choices, which, I really feel this is hit-and-miss, and acoustically a lot of these aesthetic choices end up being worse, and due to the intricacy involved in the machining, the cost also goes up significantly. It somewhat reminds me of the issue faced when monokei tried to bring out the more mainstream jane ME v2, which imo really misses the mark with the multitude of issues in terms of the engineering design, the acoustics, and also some QC problems that came together with it, all due to the aesthetic choice of "screwless" and a more modern look to the more "plain jane" look that, ironically, should design the jane. End game is personal, and so there's nothing wrong with folks who find this board end game, and there will definitely be folks who gets drawn strongly to the aesthetic of this board, which is definitely one of it's kind. It's just that I'm not a fan of the deviation of the owlabs brand from a more mainstream appeal kind of brand that's hard to get due to pricing/availability, to a brand that now a lot more niche (even more niche than matrixlabs from what I can tell), that also seem to have a lot of gimmicks rather than features.

Very interesting to hear your take on the sound, I definitely trust what your view is given you've heard them (and vastly more boards) in person than I have, but from those sounds tests, the Mr Suit sounded more solid than the Vento which to me seemed almost more hollow of flimsy which is weird given the quality of construction and heft to the board

What I've heard is that endgame is just when you run out of money. But I think it obviously has to meet a sound, feel, aesthetic and level of functionality that you're happy with. And like you said, it needs to invoke that feeling of specialness. Not really sure if finding your endgame would stop you from purchasing new and upcoming keyboards though.

@@frankhoang9819 It's fucking amazing for the Tofu65. Completely changes it for the best AND keeps the board sounding even throughout the whole board (which is the main issue with tray-mounted boards). For this "pillow-mount" idea, all I did was change the stock M2x5 screws to M2x6 (you can also do M2x7 if you wish), tighten all the screws down as much as possible after stuffing the tray with PolyFill and added the silicone standoffs that are made for the Tofu65 (you can also use Poron Foam pieces on the screws on the base and top of the PCB. Easiest way to use foam is to use a hole-punch for paper, slide the punched foam circle over the screw). It's an amazing hack for the board and gives it an even sound throughout, great acoustics, deep thock/creaminess AND gives it some flex and bounce. The screws won't back out neither since they are tightened all they way.

Very similar. But it feels more polished than evolv.

Vento looks so alive and fun but sounds a little boring. Mr. Suit is the very opposite. If we swap the sounds of these two, I would want them both :)

Isn't it hilarious that these keyboard companies know their products are not worth what they ask for by a long shot, so they have to use artificial scarcity and exclusivity to distract

I seriously don't like the look of this keyboard and the direction in which OwLab is going. I'm not denying that it's a good keyboard, because it probably is. But no matter how good it is, it's crossed out by my appearance. I'm a big fan of OwLab and TKL. I have two Mr Suits, but this keyboard is the biggest disappointment for me
@Keybored
@Keybored 3 ай бұрын
Haha probably because you have 2 Mr.Suits! Once you have those in possession, not many can step up to them without going rare rare

I'm glad that their higher end products are wacky and out there! Not every high end keyboard should appeal to the masses and variety in the market is always a plus for the consumer. I'm still deciding if this is a raffle I want to sign up for since the design is so unique. the mr.suit is already peak keyboard imo!

For me it is too much. I like simplicity in keyboards, no extra buttons, no screens etc.. I prefer endgame that has nice unique shape with proportions, top materials, perfect finishing and awesome sound.
