HypieTV I think it’s about self hatred and perfectionism. People abuse themselves trying to reach angelic standards. What a strange, beautiful paradox. We harm ourselves to build a better self. I misread stuff all the time though. I’d love someone else’s two cents.

Jacob DIDNT LITERALLY wrestle with a no damn angel. That sounds RETARDED. If angels are real, you think they that weak that an old man can almost beat them??? The story is an ALLEGORY. Jacob was wrestling with his SINFULNESS AND EVIL NATURE. He wants to do God's will and be holy, but at the same time his flesh and spirit wants to do bad and live in sin. SO HE'S WRESTLING WITH HIMSELF.

@@Mr.Chris.P.Bacon1 Why couldn't he have literally fought with an angel *_and_* that still be a symbol for how his spirit was fighting against his flesh? Just like how Abraham going to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, was a symbol and foreshadowing for God, the Father, giving His only Son, Jesus Christ. I hate how people want to make everything in the Bible only symbolic and allegorical. We can't say that we have faith (trust) in God, yet doubt His word, the Holy Bible, and His power, which is infinite. He created the man and beast on the 6th day, *_and_* the number 6 is the symbol for the number of man (humans) and beasts. Jesus literally existed in the flesh and He was also a symbol of the ultimate lamb, the ultimate sacrifice and atonement for our sins. I could go on.

"You made it, you made it, you made it, yeah you made a deal / You played it straight, graduated, waited, you still a waiter still / Mice will always find our ways to steal, Picture me, fifth of Hennessey, and swisher sweet, fake identity / Till a plug named Trinity hit me, like "wake up, wake up" remember me? / Said one plus one make three and you finna see, you ain't as grown as you finna be - you got them young man tendencies..." This verse is so deep. Trinity is God within him. His Spirit, the Trinity is a "plug" it keeps him connected and gives him fuel. He awoke to a fake identity, and realized that one plus one makes three. This has a few meanings - mainly, that two come together in love to make another, and that Spirit unites Father and Son, but also that one action compounded over time makes a habit - resulting in continuous repetitive action which leads to the inevitable acts that follow. He thinks he's grown, but isn't quite yet and always has more growing to do. His young man tendencies take him away from God and family and are what he needs to learn about. Channo gets a lot of shade for turning into "Chance the Pastor" with his gospel type, and positively influenced rap. But you know what? I'd rather see him live a long life in the light, than a short one filled with darkness like most of these other lost, young, and confused men who get caught in the snare of this rap lifestyle.

The depth and meaning that Chance displayed in this song is so surreal. Love the comparison between his conflict with life and that of Jacob's struggle with God, the basic underlying theme of the song couldn't be more dope! Good to hear a Christian theme that doesn't sound so preachy for once. And as always NoName kills it. Shout out from England!

Hes fucking awesome to begin with, doesnt take himself too seriously, makes the music that HE wants to make doesnt just try to appeal to an audience and actually gives recognition to those who helped him get where he is (donnie trumpet) He had offers from tonnes of big record label companies but turned them all down becuase he wanted to make MUSIC, NOT MONEY! absolute legend

You would think that amassing a greater following would translate to monetary comfort that allow them to continue to be their authentic selves. But it seems like something went horribly wrong for the both of them as they gained more clout. It's hella sad bro. Maybe the comfort breeds complacency, or maybe they are trying to meet some weird expectations they feel they have to. :(

@@jensoh Well to be fair Noname has not fallen from her previous lyrical standard. She said it herself that she chose to leave music because she felt that her success wasnt predicated on the quality of her lyrics and she noticed this especially with white fans, for example who would constantly shout nigga every chance they got to when she performed and how her more introspective joints were ignored.

Said one plus one make three, and you finna see You ain't as grown as you finna be You got them young nigga tendencies [Verse 2: Noname] Mm... Sentimental energy I let the light in beside him, I stand like angel Sparring is training for an apathetic halo Apologetic, nonreligious, consequential fable Like good is good, the love in me is goodly, or godly The Bible say mistakes is necessary So I Mississippi monologue to granny house My soloist is sold out to attentive God Cornbread on my table when I say my prayers On airs, to stairs where shadiness is time to rest or manifest Sparring is training, I know they think me bumblebee Afro-Americano Sunny D, but bet I sting, no die [Verse 3: Chance The Rapper & Both] Sparring is training, Jacob wrestled with God In the desert 'til he broke him and he blessed him And he rescued his heart I struggle with love, I juggle my loves I cuddle and coddle, ship wreckin' bottle, I huddle in hugs Sparring is training bra, Ramses watching raining frogs Jigga watching Damon, Damon watching Wayans Bros A tandem unicycle with two pilots in different maps [Transition: Noname (Chance The Rapper)] You giving back?
