From my experience. It does alot better in sim. It's Britain's first plane with PD IFF which makes a world of differenc, and TWS helps to prioritize targets. Its certainly not meta in sim either. But it has some very welcome additions :)

you are up against plane that designed from almost the get go to be air superiority fighter which can do most things fighter need well, against plane designed specifically for performance or weapon load which need sacrifice of something to complete its task

It’s designed to kill bombers, sure it can kill fighters in self defense but don’t expect to do well.

I personally think there is something wrong with the model

@@Alex2K there (with the IDS at least) was talk of slats not being implemented correctly, so lower sustained turn rate than irl. it will not make a significant difference even if we do get them to be honest though

the r3r is a good missile like any other early missiles you have to learn to use it. but unlike the others the skill ceiling is much higher. so it can become quite powerfull if you know how to use it. the migs 21s has r3r as its most powerfull and noobs call it bad good players call it one of the most powerfull. and it can use rockets as makeshift flares.

R-3R is at least sorta usable at really high altitudes but only against people who don't run chaff. It's a significantly weaker AIM-9C pretty much, and on a worse radar.

R-3R is so bad that you can dodge it even at high altitude which is laughable

@@nnteslann1928 it just doesn't you just cant see the chaff at close range so it looks like it locking flares. best way to use the r3r is to shoot it at super close range, funny enough the r3r is one of the fastest accelerating missiles in game, so the enemy cant react fast enough most of the time to either dodge or chaff it. thats in a headon which is the r3r best situation, the other best way to use it is to dive directly down on enemys who dont see you the radar can see targets who are 1km over the ground or even less they also dont get rwr warning. you just have to lead it and shoot at a range the missile can guide enough to hit.

He also whines about point and click while flying an F-104, one of the planes most reliant on "point and click" gameplay

Highlights of the tree: Sea Hawk is not an 8.0 plane but it fights well, can pull just as much AoA as a vampire if you have proper flaps management. Swift F.7 is probably the best British jet relative to it's BR. It can get a crazy amount of energy with that afterburner, and Fireflashes are a nice gimick. Be careful maxing out the elevator and using ailerons though above 850 kph, it will reliably snap a wing off. Hunter F.1 isn't what it once was, and just as high as skill floor as it was back then, but in a downtier nothing can compete. Hunter F.6 is actually decent at 9.7 now! You have swords in a bracket filled with guns... but your swords are *really* sharp. Stay vigilant, never take a fair fight, and it'll perform better than it has any right to. Mind the all aspect carriers of course. Harrier GR.3 has got good missiles, good acceleration, and flares. Nothing special, but it works. And that's about it. FG.1 and FGR.2 are still capable, though still held back what with it now having the worst maneuverability and armament of all the Phantoms.

And a better plane makes it easier to do well in. Just like in a fast car with good handling you don't need to be a professional to do better than someone in a toyota corolla. In war thunder that means you can play more aggressively, and aren't just forced to play like a rat anytime you want a kill

@@lukeskylicker you forgot to mention the scimitar which is probably my fave from that whole tech tree. A lot of power, no pull, and 4 missiles. Kinda suffers against all aspects but who doesn’t tbh, 4 bullpups for memes is nice too

well this works better with the tornado ids as you cant turn so you might as well force an overshoot. Also at high speeds when needing to get a shot it really helps with sweeping wings forward quicker and also stops the annoying mach cone from blinding you

I dunno man, it's game play is almost identical to my FGR 2 game play. Fly around and throw missiles at people that aren't paying attention or don't know what a SARH missile is, then die when 1v1ed by any competent pilot. At least it has variable wing sweep and thrust reversal to play with?

@@SS-2178 Italy did use the ADV, they leased 24 from the UK and kept them in service for 10 years before replacing them with the american F-16 ADFs while waiting for the Eurofighter to come.

It being useful and it being added is fortunately (?) unrelated :) Though I do think the 31 is much more likely just because it would be easier to make it powerful, even in an off-meta awkward missile bus kind of way.

I was skimming mig25 on wikipedia and it said the plane has 0.4 T/W... If that's truly the case then it will be even worse than tornado

@@angga2917 Could be, it's single purpose was to always fly above mach or preferably at mach 2 and lauch it's chonky big payload BVR missiles on everything and never ever get in a dogfight with anything. It's huge for a fighter and also heavy as hell so basically zero turnability and zero energy retention for fights. So it's basically never engane and always keep your speed up no matter what. With that said i would love to fly it in WT just because of it's looks.

That depends entirely on what the enemy aircraft is actually doing. If they're flying straight then sure, you can just put the crosshair directly on them, but if they're turning then you need to adjust it in some way because the lead indicator can only take into account their current speed and direction, it can't tell the future.

It’s much worse if you use manual wing sweep, you get warning-less wing rips quite often in turns. Using manual helps eke out the last little bit of manoeuvrability in the plane though so if you just spend a little time in a test flight learning tolerances then it’s fine most of the time.

Germany didn't use this variant. Though, you're not missing much...
