When the new pads seat in to the new or turned or cleaned rotors they tranfer pad material to the rotor this material works with pads to help stop the car and reduce noise when reusing rotors that are in good condition and above minimum thickness its a good practice to clean this material off with a rotor refinishing disc to give the rotor a non-directional finish so the new pads can bed it

T_money_ THIRD It does get rid of the squeak. Also some more brake paint underneath the brake plates helps. I understand and will be doing everything described in this video. But, could you explain why putting the screwdriver in between the fins of the rotor would not cause major damage once you press the accelerator? Thanks.
@james668722 жыл бұрын
The Honda Odyssey does not have a locking differential. Let’s take the screwdriver out of the equation, both wheels are spinning in the air, I could walk to either the left or to the right rotor and stop it with my hand and the other wheel would keep spinning. I could let go and then that wheel would start spinning the same speed as the other then walk over to the other side and stop it. The screwdrivers manipulating the system so that I can apply pressure to the wheel that spinning with the sandpaper. Note that is the wrong sandpaper and I do need to make another video with a different car. My Subaru all-wheel-drive would be a great video but may be a little too technical. Noted from an earlier comment mentioned that I did not see anything about opening the brake calipers so that the brake pads are not rubbing up against the rotor while deglazing the rotor. But that also was done with the flat head screwdriver in between the caliper and the rotor just pray back on it a little bit and open the caliper so that the pads are not rubbing against the rotors. Please be careful while doing this
@Shamisen362 жыл бұрын
@@james66872 After reading your comment I did some research on the different differential and I get it now. Finding out what type of differential I have is the key. Medium or coarse steel wool would also be a good idea; it's my go-to for resurfacing metal parts. I find that when doing it by hand, sandpaper is prone to removing too much material and carving out low spots under your fingers. Plus most auto stores sell it at least as fine as #00 grade, which is excellent for (very gently!) cleaning up gasket mating surfaces, slider pins and stuff like that.
@DD-uf2uo2 жыл бұрын
Next time you replace your pads, ask the part store worker what pads you can get that help reduce glazing on the rotors. You may have cheaper pads on your car. A long time ago, the pad material (Asbestos) had BRASS shavings embedded in it. Brass is a soft metal so as it wore away it would help keep Glazing down.

The rocks are scratching and damaging your rotor versus too soft erasers squeezing up against your metal rotor. When it comes to brake pads. I only use oem/factory.

This is NOT a thorough diagnosis or fix as to why your brakes are squeaking. You are supposed to spread a thin layer of caliper grease on the surfaces the brake pad backing plate comes in contact with. That is the most common reason for brake squeak. It seems like people are afraid to use the proper materials to do the job correctly. I get people with their brakes squeaking pretty often that come to me and I re-do the brake pad install properly, cleaning and degreasing and applying the caliper grease where it's supposed to be and never had a single problem. If you dont know how to do it correctly yourself, take it to someone who understands the correct procedures, dont just assume your local garage or even the dealership does it properly because alot of them don't. When you get your vehicle back it's imperative to have the person who did the work point to exactly where they applied the caliper grease and where they didn't. A good garage and/or dealership will be proud to show you that they did a thorough job using the correct procedures
@james668726 жыл бұрын
CJ Hosey! Of corse you supposed to have break paste. That's a given. What I am saying is that after the third or fourth set of brake pads, your rotors start to get a little glazed. @ohboy25923 жыл бұрын
@@james66872 just came across this video. Are you saying you are on your third or fourth set of pads and the same rotors? That’s your problem right there if that’s true. You either have garbage pads or not measuring the rotors correctly. No way are rotors lasting through 3-4 sets of pads. That’s north of 250,000 miles of city driving alone. Good pads should be lasting more closely to 65-75,000 miles and no rotors last 250,000 miles. As cheaply as rotors are now, just buy a new set. If your rotors look like this I would not sand them, I would investigate the cause and replace pads and rotors along with what ever is causing the issue, rotors are $40 a pop for OE quality and pads are about the same for a set and shims. My guess, is that these brakes were just not bedded in correctly, or you got tire shine or something similar on the rotor and didn't use brake cleaner to get it off, just sprayed if off with water and called it a day. Also should mention in your video that you must re-bed brakes after trying this.
