Here's a summary (also in the video description): Normally Degrassi's filming the newest season of Next Class now, but they aren't. What's going on? Is the show canceled? The answer is unclear, but based on the show's history there's no reason to panic about a COMPLETE cancellation yet (complete cancellation = the show isn't renewed by Netflix AND Family Channel, and the show isn't able to find a new broadcaster). Even if Netflix didn't renew Degrassi: Next Class, the show isn't dead b/c Linda Schuyler and co. would immediately search for a new broadcaster. They've said many times that they have no intentions of stopping the show anytime soon. But for now, the biggest concern is that with the lack of filming, no new season of Degrassi: Next Class will be released in January 2018.

I have so much faith in the Degrassi franchise, I can't imagine it not existing...

Personally I'd love to see a Degrassi spin off show about Degrassi alumni where we see where the lives of previous Degrassi students are currently. I think that'd be a brilliant idea. Mainly because I keep seeing people say that Degrassi is getting repetitive. Well if they showed the students' current lives, it wouldn't be repetitive because by this point of all the previous students have to be at different points in all of their lives, not dealing with the same high school drama. That's just my opinion though. :)

yes probably taking longer because they have to get new actors don't want to wait longer but it is worth it for quality can't wait to see what happens in season 5

casting wise this is exciting, i was excited when they first introduced miles, maya, zig when they were freshmens, so its aways nice seeing a new freshmen class come into the world of degrassi.

Maybe the delay is that they are trying to see how to fit Emmas brother jake in the storyline. Jake would be about 13 or 14 years old by now which is an ideal age to enter high school

I can't wait for Vijay's storyline next season. He has so much potential!: •A storyline about his sexuality •A storyline about his authenticity of being a gamer • He's an advocate/activist so there's lots of plots for that •He's a hopeless romantic so we can expect a relationship storyline •He's a fashionista so we probably get to see more into his style •He's a vlogger so we can see how that goes. •A storyline where he leaves the group and pursues a new one with Yael, Lola, and Saad.

15-16 episodes would be good for a season

Well, here we are three yeas later and still no Degrassi. The official website still lists The Next Class as 2016 - (blank), but I couldn't find ANYTHING about new stuff. It makes me sad. I've been watching Degrassi since the mid 90s. The show has it's low points, but still keeps me watching with the drama and characters! If you know anything I don't, please let me know!

While I would love for more seasons, I don't like how rushed everything felt this season. There were still some loose ends and maybe I just got so hyped up that I set myself up for disappointment, but it just felt so lacking and predictable. I really wish they would find a new platform so we could either have longer episodes or more of them. Maybe 45 minute episodes? I do hope that the radio silence is them completing the casting and that we get to see newer or different storylines. If it does get officially renewed then yay, but if it doesn't I will be sad but will understand. I kind of wish they would do a spin off or special with the alumni off previous seasons or even to further wrap up the ones just graduating.

I'm pretty sure there's going to be a Season 5, and probably even 6. They wouldn't leave it on a cliff hanger. But maybe they're re-casting??

I think they should release the episodes weekly too. when you get them all at once, it feels like nothing at all for some reason. I don't feel like I connected with any of the characters.

Guys I think I know what it is! I mean think about it 🤔. JACK SIMPSON! The half brother of Emma is coming to Degrassi. I mean he is old enough to go and what a fun way to bring back throwbacks of the old Degrassi. It will make old fans interested again

There aren't many disabled characters on tv and the last time Degrassi had one it was after a shooting, i don't think i have seen any actirs since glee portraying characters with such a unique point of view, I would love to see this diverse casting expand even more in the up coming seasons as as things like teen pregnancy has already been addressed five times in Degrassi whereas other issues are yet to be explored. If you do not agree thats fine, this is just my personal opinion.

If Netflix cancels, they should just got to the CW. Heard they're trying to get the teen drama genre back on track. Especially since Riverdale is a thing. Netflix doesn't advertise Degrassi well. They BARELY even do so. Instead, Degrassi is being bested by a worse who in comparison (13 Reasons Why)-which is a pretty negative show for teens, and doesn't give out the right messages. Degrassi lowkey treated suicide better in Maya's instance than Hannah's tbh.

Just bring the show back to Teennick! The show was so much better back in those days when it was still airing on that particular channel.

I had the exact same concerns about there being such a long hiatus. Even though my interest in the show isn't as deep, I'll still watch and support it (and your channel too!).

I am hoping for some new great characters!! I would love to see some new storylines and even some recycled Ones! I want to see some innocence back on the show!! See the middle school kids!

I think the current 10 episode structure is far too little for a season. I liked it when they used to do half seasons, because there was a nice pacing between new content and complete hiatus. If anything, a longer season in general seems to be in order. 16 episodes minimum would be ideal, and give much more room for some narrative momentum, rather than entire plots being wrapped up in a single episode.

What they did with Degrassi Next generation they put two episode side to side because the were in two 30min parts

highly doubt its canceled....they are prob just keeping it quiet... if they were they would have already announced it..

It would be great to see fresh, new ideas. At the same time, they could do the same ideas just in a different way. There's so many unique stories to tell and so many ways to tell them. They could tackle hate crimes, gun control, sex trafficking etc.

No panic from me. Take your time to cast the next stars of Degrassi. Just make sure one of them is Jack Simpson. Hopefully someone auditions for the role. I will mark out when S5 starts up and we're introduced to Mr. Simpsons son a freshmen at Degrassi. I'm really excited for what's next to come. With a new cast and those who didn't graduate, Frankie, Lola, Shay, Yael, Hunter, Baaz, Vijay, Saad and most importantly Esme (highly anticipating seeing her progress and road to recovery) the storylines and character arcs can be very interesting going forward.

I have so many ideas of possible storylines Degrassi could have: 1. A guy that gets raped, because boys and men get raped too2. Someone that is a total nerd and that is sort of a teachers pet and people hate them for being so smart and getting good grades. But, they have problems at home like being abused by a parent or something like that 3. More Muslims, especially ones from Middle East that have been caught in a war crossfire 4. Relationship abuse, especially against a guy because guys would be abused too. 5. A female gang member who leaves the gang and has a heart of gold but still is tough. But deals with wanting to be a free and rebellious troublemaker and being the opposite. They also have to have ocean blue hair6. Male to female transgender 7. More people if the LGBTQ+ community, like and asexual or pansexual8. A lot of biracial couples9. More disorder storylines, but disorders that they haven’t covered 10. Someone that is addicted to social media, but gets themselves into trouble, like with the Darcy and Adam thing

I'm totally panicking now.

I'd really love to see the show explore some more 'serious' or rather real, raw and intense issues; covering mental illnesses, abuse, trauma, recovery, STD's, learning disorders, alcohol and drug use - especially marijuana, possibly showing one of the characters (Maya or Grace?) learning about it and exploring it for medicine/treatment, if not legal locally, maybe while in California or over break on vacation somewhere, or better yet.. in a place where it is not legal or maybe very frowned upon; that would allow for even more controversial material to be shown. Which to me personally, is something I absolutely love about Degrassi. They totally show real and current issues, they show teens making bad decisions, they explore very diverse topics - and yet the show is still a healthier more purposeful show for young people to watch than the other options out there. I first watched the very very very first season of the show in 7th grade at school, it was to be a therapeutic educational way of teaching life lessons and the upmost and highly pressured important moral compass, I am not particularly fond of American public schools, especially high school because they do not allow time nor encourage self directed learning, independence or the value of allowing yourself to be different or to live alternatively. Degrassi Community School has a whole h*ll of a lot of drama but it offers compassionate help and surprisingly equal rights and support to everyone. At the end of the day it is a good place to go, to learn and to grow in many ways. In my opinion, Esme is a hard person to love, but I think she is one of my favorite characters from this season. The actress does a wonderful portrayal of a truly ill young lady, the way she lets her self get fully into the mindset of an extremely emotionally and mentally sick teenager who is also highly intelligent and clever. They could dig an entire season into her story, her history and background, her diagnosis and treatment, as well as on going therapy. With Maya going to California for school we most likely won't be seeing much of her in season 5. I think that's unfortunate but it does also leave open a few roles to fill: an artist of any sort, someone who has mental health disorders and has experienced grief and trauma, someone who has a parent with a disability, someone that many characters admire and someone who has known or does know closely past Degrassi characters. I really do enjoy seeing Degrassi grads pop into the show. I believe that because of that the show has continuously reinforced the plot and more importantly in my opinion, the lessons us viewers have learned watching Degrassi legends go through high school (and beyond) have been that much more influential.

It all has to do wtih rating how many people watch the show.I know this show has a loyal following however there is also a lot of people who quit watching this show because its getting boring to watch the same story lines with just new actors. Think at some point it has to end they cant just bring in new storys because they almost done it all so whats left just new actors doing the same thing thats been done before. It has to end sometime.

Even as an adult, though there are other shows that I watch, Degrassi is still one of my favorites! I really hope that it will continue on. One thing I do wish, is that from time to time they would show us what's going in the adult lives of the former Graduates. Like Spinner, Jane, Holly J, Sav, Ali Bhandari, Clare,Zig, Tristan, Miles etc. It would be so cool if they make a "DeGrassi: All Grown Up" version of the show for more adult related problems, where previous graduates would make regular appearances. There's so much more that could be done with this show, but what's been done thus far is truly Awesome!!! So Thanks Guys and God Bless!!!

I would love for them to do a storyline about an Indigenous student and their struggles with living on a reservation and issues with the Canadian government. Its crazy how Degrassi has been around for soo long and there hasn't been a single storyline with Indigenous people..

Hahahahaha, we had so much hope... It was for nothing. Now almost 6 years later we might start a whole new generation that *will last* for some pretty good time and actually *finish all of it's characters* arcs, and hopefully a new gen in which they will for certain *develop all of it's characters,* instead of just leaving some characters out of nowhere to be found - storyline related.

ten to one the show creators are casting also I'm not in the camp for hour long EP's I just want more EP's and for stories to stretch across more than just one EP because most the issues they want to deal with on the show are complicated and should be fleshed out more also I would like them to explore each character's home life as well just as they did in TNG

I personally think it's not a good idea to do hour long episodes. I'd be fine with them doing it like season 7 for example where they had double episodes for the stuff that was really interesting and for everything else (and just a bit of character development beside the major storylines) they had single episodes. It was easier to follow and they could concentrate on the major storylines in a really good way...

Honestly, I really think that they're just on a hiatus. If I remember correctly, their Wiki page has stated that there will be seasons 5 and 6. They were even looking for new people to play new characters for season 5.

The only real reason Degrassi survived for so long is that it's been partially underwritten by the Canadian govt. It says it on every episode

I wouldn't care anymore. I finished all 4 seasons in a matter of 5 days on busy days! It's so back and forth to the extent where I questioned the purpose for only 10 episodes a season for a 20 minute time length. Degrassi (Next Class) has potential but I suppose they just want to fit everyone which is great but the con is that it's way too short & not enough closure for something we'd expect as viewers to be incomplete storylines. Okay we've seen emotional breakage, simultaneous pairings, seperations, racial barriers & descriminnation... BUT what's next for these guys out of all that? I guess we'll never know because they already graduated, I've expected atleast a dozen load of watchable content for these generic storylines but it just seem like the writers were like "nope we're finishing it here, graduation everybody! So due to the disappointment, I can't say I'll ever care to wait for another season or watch it. Seasons for this show should consist of atleast 17-20 episodes. But that's just my opinion.
