in today's episode we are bringing you the flavours hidden in the bustling lanes of Dhamawala in Dehradun. Being a busy market, it is a one of city's major street food hubs.
The sojourn began with Surender Ji Ke Mathi Chole cart famous for mathi chole and Bengali-style chole. We couldn't resist ourselves from trying both of them. The base of both the dishes was the same-well cooked soft chickpeas. The first one had crushed mathi mixed in it and the second one was flavoured with raw mustard oil. The other two ingredients were a spice mix and tamarind-coriander chutney. We loved the simple yet zesty flavours of these easy snacks.
Next stop was Sumit Drinks that offered a refreshing interlude with its fascinating non-alcoholic fizzy drinks. Our pick was the rum cola and beer soda, two unique drinks in their menu. Their distinctive profiles, very similar to the alcoholic beverages that they represented, added a novel twist to our palate.
After this we stepped visited Manchanda Sweets to savour the legacy embedded in their balushahi and patisa. These sweet confections, echoing with tradition, provided a gratifying experience.
The following stop was Gaurav Food Products, an unpretentious family run shop selling pakoda and affordable meal platter. Our pick from their huge fried snacks range was the humble moong dal and aalu ke pakode.
Next we visited Bharti Dairy Farm wherein unfolded a tale of pure desi ghee and dairy treasures. The brief interaction with the owner turned our dairy exploration into an immersive journey through tradition of purity.
The following stop was Paramjit Bhutta Cart, a humble street-side cart, offered boiled corn on the cob with spices. Those were the native corn an hence we liked the notes of earthy taste that interspersed the zesty flavours coming from the spices.
Our second last stop was Manas Bengali Snacks Shop. It was a treasure trove of Bengali delights. From the crispy alu chop to the fragrant singahara and the succulent chicken roll, each bite resonated with the rich culinary heritage of Bengal.
Our gastronomic adventure culminated at Chaurasia Paan Bhandar, where the meetha paan provided a sweet symphony of flavors.
Dhamawala's diverse and flavorful offerings left us with indelible memories of a day steeped in the essence of its vibrant and rich food culture.
