To be fair, to my knowledge, Fire Emblem and armor mix together like water and oil, the male warriors are eother wearing just cloth or half naked in some cases, the only exception I csn think of who wears good armor is the Black Knight, Fire Emblem and armor are just polar opposites

I can defend the first three technically. Charlotte is supposed to be fan service because she's trying to attract herself a man. Corrin's armor is thin because not only is she themed more after a dancer than a fighter, it's also implied that the armor is her scales in her dragon transformation so they can get away with the material being thin. The thigh window though cannot be explained. Cherche is a wyvern rider, so you really aren't going to be able to get her back easily. Also, she is an axe unit so her armor being bad against swords makes sense.

Fun fact, the first one, Charlotte. It's trying to marry a rich idiot to pay for her parents live. So despite every Fire Emblem Fates character having Garbage armor she is ironically the only one where it made actual sense.

In order Charlotte isn’t trying to be in combat period and when she is she’s hoping people go AWOOGA long enough for her to kill first Corrin’s armor is also kinda dragon scales I think, like if it’s not it’s some weird coincidence that her dragon form and semi dragon transformations incorporate that armor specifically and not her promotion armors The later ones are mostly mounted characters so… Cherche has a whole ass wyvern covering her as a meat shield Dunno the bulky armored girl Mathilda is a bit more valid but also she is a cavalier in a world where most of the enemies are infantry units Philia is also a flier and Pegasus knights specifically, which she is, are known for their mobility usually don’t have a lot of trouble just dodging the few non magical attacks that pose a threat, being bows and arrows

the tile says "rating female fantasy armor in fire emblem", "it should say rating usability and practical use of female fantasy armor in fire emblem" , the armor in fire emblem games is clearly not designed with practicality in mind. The armor is basicly just an accesory to the charakter, a way to make them more apealing, like clothes, but since were in a fantasy world with dragons and swords you can make your charakters more apealing with armor, and since youre not bound with the rules of the real world, practicality can take a seat in the back and you can go in whichever direction you want with armor design.

The main critique that could reasonably change the rating is knowing the character's class (terms may vary between games). Aside from the first character, I think the rest are on flying mounts (which the armor's added weight could be a liability) Granted, Corrin's rating is a little understandable if you don't want to be spoiled on who she is in the story.

Picture 3: she rides a wyvern so maybe the fact she is lightly armoured is so the Mount can achieve flight better. Also the fact that she is on a flying mount mean she can escape fights better. But yeaaaah, the character is specifically a maid for a foreign house so she has that sexy maid appeal built into her design.

The first girl is from the Fighter/Warrior/Berserker class line. It used to be an exclusively male class, and in her game they're kinda sorta a gladiator concept. They're supposed to be a showy fighter to impress and intimidate. Historically the Fighter class line has always been high strength high hp with middling/decent speed and not great defenses or skill. It kinda tracks; they just eat hits well instead of mitigating the damage with armor. Corrin turns into a dragon. Full fantasy bullshit is in effect there; realism need not apply. I would say that you aren't being fair to the flying cavalry because they have to be lighter and swords aren't really something they're primarily concerned with, but their armor still sucks for the things they would be primarily concerned about, arrows, javelins, and spears. Then I also remember how the armor of FE PoR/RD was for pegasus and wyvern knight class lines, and there is no defense. In those games your fliers didn't have armor everywhere, but where they did the protection was good, and as you promoted to a higher class you got more armor. The soldier class line was also kinda funny because Nephanee was the only female soldier you could get and her armor was a fair bit less protective (absent) in the thighs and such, but she was also significantly faster than any of the more armored male soldiers and was a bit of a dodge tank. Especially compared to Aran, who might as well have been an armor knight for how slow and defensive he was.

i just praise corrin's armor for being nearly the exact same for both male and female corrin (save for the thigh windows). meanwhile female byleth from fe3h has an outfit that is just so damn ugly. she's got her stomach showing, short sleeves, tiny shorts, heels, and lace tights. also, while not about outfit design, female byleth's model is just ??? they got my girl looking like a big headed critter bug who just crashed a wedding, i cannot explain it in any other way 😔

I'm really curious to see you rank the armors of the three lords from FE3H after the timeskip. Especially their "brave" versions as they're called in Heroes, where they actually try to look like efficent armors.

Rule of Cool is the FE philosophy since the DS era. GBA era was more grounded in traditional fantasy tropes.

For some of the characters I understand however, for the others there is a reason for the lack of armor. For example, Corrin could have parts exposed for an ease of transforming into her Dragon form. For Cherche and the other flier units, they need to have less armor because they are flier units and with Cherche in particular having the opening allows for air to flow through easier allowing for less drag.

None, its a fictional series with shields and blades with properties that act as mcguffins to seal dragons, holy weapons that require you to have a specific type of crusader’s blood for them to function properly, hybrid human/furrys that transform into an animal at will, and rings that summons ghosts to fight for you. Some fantasy armor looks more like “display” or “formal” armor then battle kit Like the last two here look like something they would wear at formal events or ceremonies and if they had proper armor for battle outside them they would be be fine for purpose

To be fair Phila rides a pegasus, a literal horse with wings, and that class is more of things like mobility, dodging and magical resistance than physical defense, so they need to wear light armor to let the pegasus maneuver in the air

The great part about fire emblem is that you're either in a heavy armor class, meaning you take little damage, or you don't have armor, so you die. But at least you have movement.

In Cherches defense, the one with the slated armor, she rides a dragon so her armor is designed to make her not slow it down while still being able to deflect an arrow.

i feel the ones for fire emblem heroes have a little more protection for the main three but the rest of heroes aren't as protected, but there are also some BIG armors on other characters in the rest of the games

I think a lot of people don’t understand about the lake, thigh armor on women when they pull it up on the outside of the thigh, but they leave the inner thighs exposed. It’s to make you look at that area it’s to make it look hot or sexual, or attractive or whatever when in reality, if you want functional armor you if you’re gonna have that exposed skin which you shouldn’t but if you’re going to you would want the inner parts of your thighs probably like the two like the inner 2/3 chunks so the middle chunk in the inner chunk of your thighs Covered and if you’re gonna leave something exposed leave the outer expose because your inner thighs are where your femoral arteries are and if you cut your femoral artery, you will bleed out and die. Like you just die it’s very very difficult to control arterial bleeding because you bleed so much and so fast and fun fact because your femoral arteries literally spurt blood with your heartbeat, the more you, panic and the faster your heartbeats, the more blood you will spurt out. So, if you’re gonna have exposed a person thigh for your sexy armor sign, at least do me the favor of making it the exterior part of the thigh that is exposed rather than the interior.

This guy is completely ignoring the vast amount of reasons why a warrior would want light armor. This is a prime example of an armchair armorsmith. I would not want any armor recommended by this guy because i wouldn't be able to move in the pillar of steel he thinks is necessary.

You've gotta check out Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn's female armor, it is the most grounded the series has been IMO and the armor design is top notch in that duology.

Corrin's outfit is practically the same no matter which gender you choose for them. As for how protective it is? Well, they're a dragon so they're extremely resilient, so I think Corrin likely prefers the extremely light armor and lack of footwear for mobility sake. As a side note, however, you can actually change the appearance of your units in certain games. Oftentimes this is done through promoting or reclassing the character, however some games like Fire Emblem Warriors simply allow you to change their outfits.

The one where she only had her boobs protected. Mathilda. She's part of the Deliverance, basically just a rebel group. For her they most likely just use whatever they can find.

Recently i ve been watching "the wrong way to use healing magic" andvit has some really nice armor designs. At least for the humans, just the exposed thighs are a bit of an issue, but its not as bad as it could be. Cant say the same for the demons though. Demongirl general looks really nice, but has ALL the armor flaws, like exposed chest, legs and high heels.

Honestly I think it would be cool to see you rank more armor from this franchise, but with the generic enemy designs. Obviously there are a lot of good and bad examples of playable/important characters, but I wanna see if you think anything improves when the characters don't need to be eye catching.
