I can't believe 256 people dislike this song.....it's Class....seen Del Amitri live and they are awesome.
@hackapump2 жыл бұрын
It's probably because the narrator in the lyrics 'fessed up to cheating on the girl, and her being the last to know. To me that's the beautiful twist of the story, the thing that makes the lyrics stand out, and it is reflected in the instrumentation too - they bring it down to the somber there. But some people get their knickers in a twist very fast. Not that there's anything beautiful about the breaking of a heart, but singing about it can be - processing it in any way really. Without it, there would be little art left, me thinks.

I remember the song, but in the 90s I was busy surviving and didn't remember the band's name. Had to look them up, and came across your comment. The lyrics are superb but very sad in their reflections on a failed love, regret about loss and that revelatory twist at the end- has to be one of the cleverest lines in pop. Not so sure about the middle eight where the song seems to lose its way a little but it's a small point compared to the rest of it. There it is again-the twist just as I type this!

So you're in love with someone else Someone who burns within your soul And it looks like I am the last to know I hear you've never felt so alive So much desire beyond control And as usual I am the last to know The last to know How you're feeling The last to know Where you are The last to know If you're happy now Or if he's treating you, like I treated you Or if he's cruel I'll be the last to know We spent summers up beyond the bay And you said these are such prefect days That if the bomb drops baby I want to be the last to know But now you're living up behind the hill And though we share the same city and feel the same sun When your winter comes I'll be the last to know Always the last to know How you're feeling The last to know Where you are The last to know If you're happy now Or if he's pleading with you, like I pleaded with you If you go, don't let me be the last to know Don't let me be the last to know Creations gone crazy The TV's gone mad Now you're the only sane thing that I have Always the last to know How you're feeling The last to know Where you are The last to know If you're happy now Or if he's cheating on you, like I cheated on you Oh, oh, oh You were the last to know You were the last to know Don't let me be the last to know
