Before tourism, there were not even roads leading anywhere. People had to go by boat from Santa Cruz to Puerto de la Cruz, for example. Or had to hike overland with donkeys.

Yes and no …I love that it’s been developed … I didn’t like that the old front and traditional architecture has been lost now. Hate to say it but it has got abit to british haha (says the British gal visiting) I also try to eat traditional food every time I go and I do find it more difficult each year to find really good food in las America’s we’ve had to Go further out. But she’s a beaut your lucky to live there I will one day !

Tourism has paid for everything there , All the beautiful proms , All the beaches and practically every business But I think it's very important wherever you go in the world to show respect to the local people and the local environment. It's theirs , It's beautiful and we are lucky to be able to enjoy it respectfully alongside the locals.

Thanks Andrew - what a beautiful area! As a tourist, I believe tourism enhances Tenerife meeting so many lovely folks as well as the financial benefits. The rock formations created on Del Duque beach remind me of the inukshuk of the Canadian North.

Was there in Costa Adeje this week and absolutely enjoyed our first time in Tenerife. I think it is the case of one bad experience sticking out like a sore thumb, people leave very poor ratings on trip advisor based on few negatives. What I noticed was some people smoking in the pristine beaches and other areas where it was not allowed. In Loro parque one of the locals confronted a group lighting up in a non smoking zone, they just didn't care and carried on despite having the sign behind them and many children around. They could have easily walked few steps and inhaled it away form the crowd.

As a native of the Canary Islands, I have to say that tourism has not ruined Tenerife. This tourism of Beer and pubs and all-inclusive hotels is the real disease of the island. They don't spend anything, they don't know the local culture, they don't eat in local islanders, only in pubs. They have no culture for knowledge. Just football, beer, swimming pool, turning red and fighting. The canary has tired of the typical foreigner. The only solution is to make prices more expensive and put an end to this seedy mass tourism that the only thing it brings is benefits for foreign companies, as well as disturbing the locals and our animal fauna. We have to generate more German, Norwegian, Danish tourism... They know more about the local culture, as well as the fauna and flora and protect the archipelago, in addition to always trying to speak the language of Tenerife, Spanish. I speak for myself, but this is a general thought in all canaries.

Some may not like how Tenerife tourism is growing, but there are parts of the island opening up that previously laid bare, the road/s around the island would never have happened, jobs etc. and let's be honest, what does Tenerife have to export/trade with? Eco warriors will get on their high horses, but to be honest, most hotels etc seem to be making a conscious effort to go greener. End of the day Andrew, you are to blame 🤣🤣 promoting it so well🤔. We are here now (Sabila) and loving it, btw, looking out for you and Laura😘

I live on a tiny Island that lost its tourist industry in the 70/80s with the introduction of package holidays. It decimated the hotel and b&b trade. I’d hate to see what would happen to Tenerife if that happened too.

@@sharenfreeman7773 I have been visiting Tenerife for almost 20 years - often as a lone female. I have never felt unsafe or as if I needed to look behind me on the island. I have felt perfectly safe venturing out at night and never felt like id be robbed or assaulted. I ignore the street sellers and they go away. I feel safrer in Tenerife than I feel in the UK. Id walk out at night there without a worry. Obviously I keep to the lit areas with bars etc and take sensible precautions, as I do in the UK.

Hi Andrew, for sure tourism has made the islands and they would be very different places without visitors. This agenda on tourism in Tenerife,Spain seems quite prevalent at the moment I'd like to think during my working life and now retirement we brought something to the party .Sure the island is beautiful, but the people who make it so ,are the locals who make our trips so memorable, they work very hard and hopefully make a good living for their families. Look closer to home imagine Liverpool or Edinburgh without tourism, if negative views on tourists keep appearing they'll vote with their feet and go where their wanted.

In response to who owns the big castle on the hill, someone posted on another site it was built in the 1930s by the Duke of Abrantes (sp?). These days Santiago and Noelia Puig Serratusell live there. He was a developer and entrepreneur and involved with the development of tourism and the building of Las Americas in the 1960s and she was a beauty queen. If you Google her name Noelia Afonso 1969 you will see a photo of her as Miss Spain. You will also notice looking around the south that their name appears in lots of places, hotels, apartments, streets etc.

Every country needs tourism. I had the pleasure of staying around the Del Duque area last year. An area of great beauty and lots of work done by the council to keep it looking immaculate. However the only way that tourism is ruining the Island is because of the scumbags, the lager louts and thieves who are allowed enter the country. I feel that if the police enforced stiff laws against these crimes, and trouble makers, then the Islands would be a safe environment for all to enjoy. As long as the scumbags are getting away with these crimes, then they will keep causing trouble. Loved that Vlog Andrew.😎

Wow what a beautiful area. Ive never being to tenerife but after seeing this area id love ❤️ to go there. Ive being trying to decide on a area for my first visit . And this may be it. Is it near the main area of adeje Andrew ? Tourism brings alot of capital into any area across the world with out it alot of business would close. Great vlog ❤

i have seen people stone stacking on many occasions and it got me thinking why do they do that ?. i dont think people just do it for fun, i thought it might have some sort of spiritual meaning, unfortunately i cannot get any real answers, could someone enlighten me please as to why this started as you see it all over the world now.

Andrew if some people think tourism has ruined Tenerife they just have to remember 2020 when it all shut down and there wasn’t any tourists . Some people have short memories.

We are not agree with this idea, canarian people don't think this, it is no true, this was a crazy man who wrote this, nobody think the island can survive without turism, we are spending to much time speaking about it, everybody is Welcome 😉

We are well travelled and have visited the Canaries over thirty times I'd say, yes we have seen the changes but these changes are happening everywhere we visit as tourism is now so popular and cheaper than many holidays especially in the rain soaked U.K., I mean just look around in this vlog, the sunshine and the lovely promenades, puts the U.K. resorts to shame.

@@Amanda-ws7qr Yes, were on a 12 night cruise next week that's circumnavigating the U.K., 2/3 of the passengers are Americans, I'll most likely rain most days but I'm sure they're aware of that I just hope everywhere we visit is clean and tidy.

Tourism is the life blood of the island. The negatives are obvious, but they don’t destroy the experience…

No it’s made it ! At the end of the day Tenerife is a volcanic island . It was nothing before tourism came along .
