Oh my God. Del was immensely talented. From "I go to pieces" to "runaway", this man was a brilliant writer. What a loss. I love you, Del Shannon. The pharmaceutical industry stole you away, and I will never be the same.

Perhaps more than any artist, Del Shannon's music foreshadowed the coming British revelation. RUNAWAY, HATS OFF TO LARRY, LITTLE TOWN FLIRT, KEEP SEARCHIN' were all songs in the Beatle/ Stones vein and, in fact, he was the first American artist to recognize, record and perform Beatles and Rolling Stones songs (FROM ME TO YOU and UNDER MY THUMB), having toured with these groups in England. Almost all subsequent artists recognized the huge contribution Shannon made to the success of rock music.

I don't know why he never toured with other bands, never considered himself an oldie, forgotten soul. He was an original, never written up in Rolling Stone, Cream, etc. Yet, he blazed his own trail going by The Wanderer himself, Dion, ignoring the rise and fall of great artists. He really was an original, doing his Buddy Holly bit, writing and singing into immortality. A fabulous interview. How rare he was: a singing artist, like Roy Orbison, who remained timeless and untouched following his own bliss. RIP

Ray Martin has always been a top interviewer here who brings the best out in people, This was no exception. But it doesn't take much to get perfection and passion from Del. He was naturally gifted with so much to give. I cry when I see this. I met Del after the concert and he was such a sweet man. I miss him so much. But his music will live on forever.

Such an interesting, personable interview, Del Shannon was. And he comes across as a totally humble guy, one you'd love to have had known. His autobiography would have been a must have. This is a wonderful, down-home interview. May God bless Del and his daughter, now in Heaven. Truly missed, truly loved by all who loved rock and roll. And Del indeed was one of the greats. Fun Fact: He mentions he was in the movie "It's Trad, Dad!". That flick is a cult classic, the first film for Richard Lester, it's director, who caught the eyes of The Beatles with this picture; who wanted a daring director to take on their first major motion picture.....which happened to be "A Hard Day's Night"......

Great that the interviewer was at Del's '61 Australian show 25yrs earlier. It put Del in a good mood. That never happens in the US, (he'd probably've been interviewed by 25yr-old Japanese weather-girl). This was done '86 & Del's b.Dec'34, so the "when I'm 50" thing's funny: He's 51 at the time.

How sad I feel watching this interview. Del sounded so relaxed and full of joy in this interview - how could things turn so drastically on its head in so short a time? If he had suffered with depression for most of his adult life and managed to get through each time, what happened on that final day? Who happened?!

They say it was the medication, Prozac, that killed him. There's a video where his widow testified in front of the FDA committee. She basically said that after Del took Prozac his behavior and health deteriorated completely.

Why is it so easy for everyone to believe some one known by the pseudonim Del Shannon (who had everything most of us hack musicians dream of achieving a fraction of in our lifetimes) would suicide? What reason possible is there? What sinister plot by benificial factions is most likely to present itself as the most obvious? The man was a giant in the industry; a legend in his own time. I am sure anyone could live with that - someone decided otherwise . . . find Del's killer . . .!!!
