Delhi Food Walks

Жыл бұрын

We started our Vidarbha food tour from the 'Orange City' Nagpur. And the first thing that we decided to experience here was the city's signature Saoji cuisine, renowned for its fiery and robust flavors. To guide us on this quest we had with us Mandira, who is a walk leader with the tour group named Orange Odyssey.
We started our journey from a textile workshop as this cuisine is believed to be from a community of weavers known as Halba Koshtis. Owing to the drop in the cotton business and consequential loss of livelihood, a few people from the community set up small eateries around Nagpur to showcase their fiercely spicy food that was already well appreciated in their group. Over these eateries soon became a rage with the working classes and now the locals from all walks of life.
Soon after touring the saree workshop, we reached one of the most well-known Saoji eatery named Suryakant Saoji. Saoji food primarily consists of non-vegetarian dishes and is deeply rooted in the culinary traditions of the region.
Here owner Sanju showed us the making of Saoji patodi rassa and Saoji jhinga curry. The former had gram flour chunks as the key ingredient while the latter had prawns. Its distinct and complex flavor comes from the rich blend of spices and the slow cooking technique.
The spice blend used in Saoji curries is what sets it apart from other Indian curries. It is a potent combination of aromatic spices such as cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, stone flower, black peppercorns etc. , along with a generous amount of red chili powder.
After making these dishes we joined everybody for tasting them. Sanju ji had also served us another crowd favourite delicacy called Saoji Sundari. This is goat's offal based curry.
The taste experience of Saoji curry was truly exceptional but its not for those with low tolerance for spices. These curry have a thick gravy with robust flavors. Watch the video till the end to discover if Anubhav could handle the heat. For those who can, this is definitely worth a try.

Sorry but no hate towards vidharbha and nagpur. But there are backward class people and their eating habits don't match with main Maharashtra. Sorry but come to Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur etc you will find upper class people and their eating habits are very standard. Sorry to say but direct coming to point vidharbha and nagpur, because of backward people look them how they eat. They lick their fingers every bite. But it's ok now they are improving.

@@Immortal10364😂what are you even saying ! Do you even realise what you just wrote in your comment ? We Indians are culturally and conventionally trained to eat by hands, where does the point of upper class and lower class come ? Eating by hands is a custom in India which has science based proof of consuming beneficial bacteria entering your body ! And to my surprise you are completely overlooking that fact in your hilarious and hypocrite comment ! Class is never defined by whether the person is rich or poor with money or eating with hands lol 😂😂, it is defined by your opinions and the rationality in your thinking which is completely absent . So pls think about posting anything public or accusing someone baselessly

Thank you for the video. I liked the owner’s attitude, I feel it’s time that we should not be apologetic about our food no matter how spicy or oily it is. If the community eats that kind of food then one should proudly flaunt it.

Those foods were developed on the lifestyle and work they used to do those days... it worked great for them. Why feel apologetic about it ? I lived in Maharashtra sometime really liked the spicy food. As he said, it is spicy but not mirchi

First people should understand that in ancient India people designed their lifestyle around nature so the selection of food was not random just to make their test buds happy but it was more focus on what helps to live in better way in that particular environment whether it’s hot or cold, if you observe in India all the states who’s wheather is hot and humid they tend to have more spicey food which helps them live in a better way May be food owners of new generation are not aware about this fact but they are going with customers choice, so he is not flaunting it’s the necessity of the whether. And using spices do this and that started when people who never had spices comes to rule India, before that it was never a bad thing to have specie food😊😊 but yes it should cooked in proper way

Maharastrian cuisine is very diverse. You will find Puneri, Konkani, Satari, Solapuri, Kolhapuri, Brahmhin, Saoji all types of variety. Honestly speaking Saoji food is not everyone's cup of tea. It's spicy, robust. Unfortunately tasty food is not all about extra spice and oil. Curry is also made with the same shrimp in Bengali and Goan cuisine. Those versions are much lighter, less spicy and less oily. I'm surprised to see that the shrimp / prawns are not devined.
