Thank you, 92nd Street 'Y' for introducing me to this fabulous woman. I've adored her sister for ages and yet, somehow, never knew of their collaboration. It's a delight to know that there's still an Ephron alive and thriving.

I don't consider myself less than anyone other than those who are incredibly strong and KIND...I am too aggressive with abusers/bullies...a real woman appreciates manners and doesn't need to be babied - and don't need to be carried through puddles - although a male may be wearing shoes that cope with the water/mud more than my heels would...it's complicated and always will be as opinions are ejected from personal experiences and perceptions.

I Love these interviews, but since this series is being recorded ... may I suggest a microphone for the audience questions? Most of them are inaudible. Thank you for this wonderful experience ... 💕

I can't believe that an organization like the 92nd Street Y cannot get a microphone to the audience members asking questions. It ruins the whole interview, in my opinion, and makes everything anti-climatic. Get it together, 92nd Street Y

PS. In the 1950’s a registered nurse with her husband and two children lived down the street from us. She having had a long career as such had also taught nursing, been involved in what today would be labeled outreach programs, not a new concept just a different name. She assisted in surgeries as a nurse, etc. While camping in an area where a phone would have been a day or more away and transportation hindered by primitive roads she performed an emergency surgery on her brother later acknowledged to have saved his life. She did it without alll the equipment found in a hospital setting nor even the instruments. Later, she did have to go through a hearing for practicing medicine without a license but the same would be true of a male in the same position. My point is where are all these wilting flowers who didn’t have a life till the 1960’s? Again I never witnessed them.? Beginning to wonder about New Yorkers. 😊 Somewhere the record of the incident and hearing is on file.

It seems a constant to be told how women were so thwarted in the 50’s. Certainly no one I knew. Career women were common in our experience. We thought nothing of it. And they had very active, professional careers. Talking generations back. They didn’t have to but chose to follow their interests in addition to having a family. This includes master’s degrees, federal attorney, doctors, a state legislator, school superintendents, school principals, president of writers league, authors, one had a radio broadcast, etc, etc. In the 1940’s my grandmother was working on a PHD in math. All friends and relatives and all women. And their husbands were not beating them telling them to stay in the kitchen?! Every time I hear of how downtrodden women were I cringe or am bewildered. I am not talking two or three but most of the women we knew. And for most mentioned this was in a small town. If they saw something that needed doing they just did it. However, the interview was most enjoyable and many interesting observations. Thank you.

Did you interview every woman you knew? What social economic class did you come from. What did they do with their children?
