Solved the mystery about these slinky chains! So easy to make. My mother had a lovely floating bead necklace with gold chain and handblown glass beads. I have the glass beads. The chain is gone. I need to recreate this piece that I loved as a child with the original beads my mother wore. Its a sacred piece for me. So glad I finally found the solution here. Many thanks!!! Very much appreciated! By the way, what is this type of chain called - this thin, slinky chain? Coreana is most likely the brand name but what is this type of chain called, anyone know?

Nails by Sharon H These are beading chains and as the name says they are designed for beading. They are very popular and have their specific findings, too. You can check bead suppliers and their tutorials.

Beading chains have different sizes and finishes with specific findings. Even 0.5 mm sterling silver...These are 0.6 mm beading chains which for some reasons they want to call it coreana!!! A totally different chain and totally misleading...

I have all of these items from Budget Bead Box... Shirley is the BEST and I love to watch your videos Thanks for doing this. I am going to try this!!! I always have problems with crimp tubes, I think they maybe too thin. I will have to get the beadalon brand or try to do the last step that you showed where you round it out. Hope that helps.
@GGCBeginningbeaders
@GGCBeginningbeaders 4 жыл бұрын
Amber Hatfield most crimp tubes do not crimp well, even if you use the proper method. Beadalon Crimps work better than most. Sometimes, when crimping ends of wires it doesn’t matter how perfect the crimp is, but for this necklace, it does matter.

Scott Thornton yes, they can be a pain. But, if you use a high quality crimp, like Beadalon, which are the only ones I use, and you use the crimp tool properly, they can be a great designing element.

I love magnetic clasps but have always found them difficult to connect to jewelry -- do you find gluing the end to help keep them on or isn't that necessary
@GGCBeginningbeaders
@GGCBeginningbeaders 4 жыл бұрын
Nancy M I do not glue them, as long as your crimp bead is the right size, you don’t need to.

These are beading chains and there are specific findings and crimps according to their different sizes for a professional finish. You can check major bead suppliers for that. Also, strangely you cannot find coreana chain anywhere except in budgetbeadbox!!! Coreana chain is totally different and not a beading chain!!!
@GGCBeginningbeaders
@GGCBeginningbeaders 4 жыл бұрын
So I guess you know more than I do. I am happy for you. This is what the chain I received was called by the supplier I received it from, scolding me will not change that fact. Thank you for your fabulous insight😁 Also, I was being creative with the items I had on hand to make a piece. If the items I used are not what you believe to be professional and proper, I am sorry, but I truly don’t care about that. This turned out pretty and works just fine...I will never understand why people get upset over these videos, it’s just a necklace!

GGC's Beginning Beaders Hi, thank you for your reply. I made this comment about one month ago and it was mainly a question about the chain (not your necklace or design) which Shirley kindly answered and we discussed it totally. You can check it in the comment section. She knows that this is a beading chain and the description for this chain on her site is accurate which says “coreana beading chain”. She is very serious and responsible about items on her site and I really appreciate her work. I think the purpose of tutorials in youtube is learning from each other and getting correct and reliable information. There is no need to be upset or offended by a question. People watching videos have different levels of skills and everybody can share and discuss their opinion. Also, professional look or finish is a term mostly related to the design and doesn’t mean that the piece is or is not professional. BTW, the main use of beading chains is in floating necklaces. I wanted to remove my comment after Shirley’s explanation, but I thought that perhaps our discussion might be useful for other people who may have the same question.
