When I was growing up we always had a nice large Sunday dinner with family after Church and occasionally we would have family friends join us. Back then nothing was open like restaurants or stores…they were ALL closed every Sunday so people could attend church if they chose to and spend time with family. I miss those days when everyone could just take a day to relax and the world ran at a much slower pace! 🥰

Hi Brit, with the mushrooms do not wash them as it makes them soggy. Wipe them with paper towel, or a soft cloth and they will become golden and slightly crispy.

I have tried this, I now rinse it doesn’t make them soggy, just ask you to try both ways and see what you think. I may be a little biased that I don’t want compost on my mushrooms. One thing I will add is that I only purchase whole mushrooms, rinse and then slice, so that may make a difference.

When I was a kid growling up in Wisconsin, my Mom would make spare ribs with a sauce made of a mixture of BBQ sauce & Ketchup. The ketchup was used to get rid of some of the harsh flavor of the BBQ sauce. Along with the ribs we had a baked potato & a salad. It was important to be home for Sunday dinner with my Parents & sister.

My uncle Calvin taught me how to make lasagna when I was 10. He came to our house to demonstrate cookware he was selling and taught me then. I wrote everything down and the about a month later I made it for our family of eight! Everyone loved it and I was so happy. 😊 That first lasagna I made kept me in the kitchen, learning and experimenting with cooking and baking. I still enjoy cooking/baking at 65! 🥰💕🙏🦋

When you added the milk to the heavy whipping cream, you are essentially using half and half. If you have heavy cream and milk on hand but need half and half, it's an easy fix. To make 1 cup of half and half: Combine ½ cup heavy cream and ½ cup milk in a small mixing bowl.

My husband works out of state so it’s just me and a 13 and 7 year old at home. Cooking is tiring. But my besties lives down the street and probably once a month we will have dinner together. That’s a night where we cook whatever we are craving, even if the kids won’t eat it. Lasagna, French dips, lamb chops, white chicken chili. All stuff I want but won’t cook because I’m the only one eating it. Don’t worry, the kids do eat lol. Just not what we make.

I stopped buying margarine/table spread over 30 years ago. People still think butter is really bad for you but will happily purchase the science experiment margarine. My cholesterol has never been high and it is the same with my hubby. Like everything, the key is moderation. I also cook with grass fed ghee instead of oil. It has a high smoke point and it makes the food taste amazing. Brit definitely try cooking ghee if you are looking for that healthier choice.

I love the Sunday dinner, yum! My memories growing up, we had assigned seats at the dinner table, there was 4 of us kids. And also we had this one glass and it was orange. I don’t remember how this started but all of us wanted to drink our milk from the orange cup. So we would say I want the orange glass and mom would decide who said it first. Sad thing is. Fettucini? We used to have family laugh attacks growing up...but it would only happen in a restaurant while on vacation. My Dad would start with saying something funny then we'd all laugh so hard we could breathe. For instance my Mom was drinking her drink and my Dad said "my what a big nose you have," and we'd practically be seeing our pants with laughter..haha. Not sure if you had to have been there, but it was so fun and funny 😁.

I enjoy it when you guys do something like this. We would always get together with my grandma Munster every Sunday after church. Saturdays were spent killing chickens in the summer. That is if we were having fried chicken. Dad had 7 siblings, but only 5 would be there. He was the oldest, and there were 25 years between him and his younger sister who hadn't Down syndrome. We would have fried chicken, gravy, canned green beans, or frozen corn. I am trying to put together a cook together of all of mom's favorite recipes. I know the ones my brothers also like. I have cookbooks from my niece cheerleaders fundraiser. There was one from church and then a 2 volume book from work. The volume 1 book was all of the breads, soups, and entee's. Volume 2 was cookies, pies, pudding, breakfast coffee cakes, cinnamon rolls, and cakes. I love those cookbooks. I know I am forgetting something, but all of the recipes are delicious, and my mom has several recipes in every book. ❤
