If you want to tackle this crazy job and need some guidance, then here it is. Expect upwards of 2 hours to complete. I had 90 minutes worth of footage to edit meaning this job took me 90 minutes. If I were to do this again it would probably take me 60 minutes, at best.
After a year or so you'll likely find yourself here in need of this teardown. Best of luck! Thermal paste doesn't last forever! Usually 12 months depending on use and climate.

Ok so I know jack shit about PCs but I did just come across one of these and I’m wanting to up it from the 8gb RAM to 16gb RAM. When I open it up I see the RAM spots but the little black parts on the RAM sticks aren’t facing up or aren’t even there. They just look like plain green circuit boards. Are they just facing upside down? I just ordered this RAM “PNY - 8GB 2.4GHz PC4-19200 DDR4 SO-DIMM Unbuffered Non-ECC Laptop Memory” is that the right kind? Thank you so much for your help Bob!!! Need more RAM to play Insurgency: Sandstorm on this laptop. I can run it find just not happy with some of the settings. Otherwise this laptop kicks ass I even can meet the minimum reqs on lots of new games. You rock

I just attempted this last night and an having the not turn on issue. When first powered on it cycled with whirring, but the screen never came on. I took it apart again, checked everything, and this time it didn't even whir. Keyboard lights are on, frame above CPU is warm, so I know there's power flowing. Still no screen. External monitor says nothing detected. Any idea on a solution?

Hey, thank you for your video. I am a engineer, my laptop is dell 7577 . its Usb ports don't work and have a message on desktop "usb device not recognized". I have checked the output voltage of the usb port, there is no electricity. I brought it to a computer repair shop. They tell me that a chipset (Power management USB ports) is broken. They don't have other chip to repair. Do you know, what is wrong!? Help me, please. Thank you, so much!

Just performed a repaste on my Dell G5 5587 w/ i7-8750H and NVIDIA 1060 max Q. Very similar teardown process since they are basically the same laptop design. I used Arctic MX-4 thermal paste I bought on ebay for $7.95. My laptop is almost exactly 1 year old and I was having thermal throttling issues while gaming, even after undervolting to -0.125V and using a cooling pad. This took me most of my afternoon, though I did take several breaks when I got too stressed. I ran into several issues. First was taking off the gray bezel/shroud for the heat vents. It required a GOOD tug with both hands to get off and it took me a long time to figure that out because I thought something was binding. Second was separating the chassis after taking out must of the screws and the thermal vent shroud. It is very tight and I used a small flathead screwdriver to go along and pop the clips with a good amount of force, and there was some marring of the plastic but nothing bad. Next issue was separating the motherboard from the back part of the chassis. I had to take out four more screws that held the fan housings in on the other side. I also nearly stripped one of the six screws on the heat sync, so make sure you use the right screwdriver size and support the back well and push down fairly hard. I also had to remove the CMOS and a couple other plugs not directly shown. Assembly was relatively quick (20 minutes) and without any issues. I did get an error flashing light after tried to turn it on, but after holding the power button down and then pressing the after 30 seconds it did the four restarts and started up like normal. I ran a full hardware test and everything came back fine. Results: Little difference in idle temperature,~10 degrees C drop in stress test in intel XTU, ~25 C drop in temp while playing CSGO. (used to thermal throttle now hangs around 70-75) I am fairly experienced with repairing laptops and this was the most complicated repair I've done yet. In my case it was worth it but unless you are having thermal throttling issues and you've tried undervolting and you are experienced with computer repair I would not recommend doing this yourself. Have a shop do it for ~$50-$80 or so and save yourself the headache. Hope this helps.

Brice Busbee I have the same model but with 1050ti I repasted and still get high temps in CSGO and thermal throttling. I don’t have a cooling pad but I do have a wedge to keep the computer about 15 degrees up. It began thermal throttling more when I updated bios
@buzz6925
@buzz6925 4 жыл бұрын
@nexus prime Sorry you are having thermal throttling issues. Have you tried undervolting the CPU? I have gotten great results with that. I would say it can have a greater impact on temperature and performance than re-pasting, unless maybe your thermal paste is really old or poorly applied or low quality. Also yo can try undervolting the GPU using MSI afterburner. I don't believe it will have as noticeable an impact on overall temps as CPU undervolting but every little bit helps. Also you can try enabling VSYNC to cap your FPS at your monitor's refresh rate. This will make it a lot easier on your computer without impacting performance. You can also set the turbo boost power max to 35W or lower. This might cause power throttling but it will help temperatures and it might not impact performance that much. Another thing I have noticed recently is ambient temperature can play an important factor how cool your laptop runs. But in the end different laptops can have different characteristics and can respond differently to methods to decrease their heat output. Also myself and others have had issues with BIOS updates for the Dell G5/7 that tries to make it quieter by make fans kick in later and increasing heat buildup. However the more recent BIOS updates has helped a little and added support for the Dell Power Manager program which lets you set different power profiles, including one that says it maximizes performance and fan speed. Let me know if any of this helps.

Đaŕķ Přínçe Sorry to hear that. If one of the fans is obstructed you probably have to disassemble it again and check the fan that is obstructed and try to find whatever it making the noise. It might be a screw that came loose or a cable in the way, or something else. You can try to move the fan by hand a little to find exactly where it is hanging up and hopefully remove the offending object. If you can’t find any obstruction or you remove the obstruction but the fan is still making a strange sound it might’ve been improperly reinstalled or already damaged. In that case you will probably have to send it in to the manufacturer for repair or explain the situation and request a new cooling unit to put in yourself. Sorry you are having fan trouble and I hope you can resolve the situation. Let me know how it goes.

Well, my Dell 7577 was smooth for the first 4 months and started to get overheat. CPU temperatures were beyond 95 degrees whereas GPU temperatures were beyond 85 degrees. Could not play any game on my GTX 1060 MQ. Watched your video and tried to do the same myself but looked too complicated to me. So went to a reliable computer repair service center and got the job done. Basically they cleaned a lot of dust and then replaced the thermal paste. Now coupled with Intel tuning utility + Throttlestop, max CPU temperature is 67 degrees and GPU temperature is 55 degrees (when I play games). Thanks to you and a person who suggested Throttlestop in the comments section.

@at0mteam590
@at0mteam590 5 жыл бұрын
@@Asianiscool1 Nah man. Using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and Throttlestop together will not help, as they are two programmes that will fight for control over the CPU. If you set something to something in the Intel one, it will show as the Default in Throttlestop, which may be confusing. But regardless - With Laptop CPU's, you cannot hurt it by Undervolting. Make sure you ONLY DO -mV with any utility. Going over will not help your thermals. It will only make it worse. But yes. It will not slow down the CPU as long as you go down in voltage very slowly, and run stress tests after each.

Just did this yesterday for the second time. The vents were pretty clogged with dust and its hard to get it clean without taking it apart and using a dry toothbrush and compressed air. It’s a lot easier the second time. Takes about an hour if you’re careful and take your time. I used thermal grizzly kryonaut this time. I tested it playing cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p high settings it’s averaging 62 fps and the cpu and gpu stays around 70 degrees even after playing for a few hours straight. Also played RE Villiage and it runs smooth. Most of the screws are the same except for the flat little ones under batt, hdd, ssd, flat ones on rear plastic shroud, silver colored ones etc…. when you take it apart just put the screws next to the part they held in place, ie the hdd screws with the hdd on the table. There were a few steps he skipped over in the video like a few extra screws he didn’t call out but just look carefully and don’t try and force anything. A laptop MB is delicate and you dont want to crack anything. Make sure you get a set of little screw drivers and tiny pliers. Dont try to do it without the correct tools.

For a year, I had absolutely zero thermal issues. However last year I started noticing that games weren't as smooth as before and that my fans would often run at high speeds, even though I was only doing my usual tasks. I have got a screw stuck, so this whole process took me about half a day to fix, but instead of having cooking 85-93C temperatures, its back to 65-73C max with the fans not even running at max and not using ThrottleStop. Although it's a fairly old video, I just would like to say a massive thank you for doing this, really appreciate your help!

Many thanks! Not cool for a gaming laptop... After some research found this option of repasting and your video. Some steps are missing such as removing the display cable, the camera, etc, so I highly recommend to download the Dell inspiron 7577 manual of their site as it was of great help to me. But your video was top class, without it wouldn't have done it!! Bought the paste (arctic mx-2), a set of tiny screwdrivers, and cleaning cloths with 70% isopropyl alcool, all under 30€ , 4h after and I was done! Gaming Temp now is at max 70ºC, gained +20ºC!!! And I had no experience with reparing laptops nor am I much of a geek :) Hint: when I removed the heat sink, lift the fans as I found a lot of fluff accumulated there. Also prying and seperating the back cover is incredibly hard!

hey there,my 7577 goes upto 85 degree Celsius and then all my games start lagging.At this point I cant play any game without lags.I found the reason behind this recently that is thermal throttling of the gpu and everyone is suggesting repasting.So should I do it?I am afraid because this process seems complicated and I dont have any experience in this.pls help.

Thanks for the information. Great video. Had no issues after the thermal paste change. As you've said, had a problem with the L shaped bracket near the power plug :) Keyboard connection was also tricky, need to pay attention with that. 1g thermal grizzly was enough both for gpu and cpu. Strongly recommend removing the fans from the fins and clean the channel between them. After 6 years of usage, mine was almost blocked.

@BobOfAllTrades
@BobOfAllTrades 5 жыл бұрын
I play BF1 online 64p conquest for about 2-3 hours for a small example. I don't play benchmarks and I definitely don't recommend stress tests like P95. Aida is at least somewhat mild compared to Prime. Regardless, I will never use these to test thermals I cannot recommend anyone do the same. It's a bit much for a laptop and unrealistic. From a content creators perspective if I lead by this example others will inevitably report back that their rigs broke from overheating and point fingers at me. Great job on your results. More importantly, great job on managing to take this apart and reassemble it without breaking it. A crisp high five for you!
@BobOfAllTrades

Actually my claim is pretty accurate. My result with regular TIM was 5c drop and said that it's likely that you'd drop another 5c with LM. Pretty good estimate considering that I did NOT put LM on here for testing.
@Hostilenemy
@Hostilenemy 5 жыл бұрын
Well, I typically stick to synthetics for benchmarking purposes because of their consistency. I only ran Aida for 10 minutes at a time which is more than enough to saturate a laptop's cooling solution. I did mange to drop another 10 degrees from the CPU and 5 degrees from the GPU by undervolting the processor using Intel XTU. At the end of the day, The CPU temp went from 96C average to 70C and GPU temp went from 85C to 71C. Huge improvements if you're willing to spend some time tweaking the system.

Just re-pasted this same laptop yesterday using arctic mx-4 2019. My laptop (even new) would get hot enough to fry an egg on the keyboard, would sometimes thermal shutdown and I always had to keep it elevated off the desk. When I took the heat pipe off, the cpu only had thermal paste on about half of its surface. Long story short... after re-pasting the high temps during intel XTU stress test went from the 90s (fluctuating back and forth from 72c-92c) down to the low to mid 70s (70c-75c). If you have temps in the 90s or your laptop is always hot with the fan roaring... it is definitely worth doing a re-paste.
