These bulky laptops should come with socketed cpus. Supposedly the reason manufacturers moved to soldered cpus was to make laptops thinner (an effort led by intel ultrabook initiative), but on these huge bulky models it doesn’t make any difference if the cpu sits 1-2mm higher. At least amd should make the effort, even if they think they will lose money when people just change cpus instead of buying new laptops.

I suspect manufacturers did this intentionally so they can sell you a new laptop in a few years. Intel, for example, has completely stopped making PGA versions of its more recent laptop processors (PGA - pin grid array).

Hey Alex! It should be interesting to ask your customers with faulty laptops, if they keep the lid closed. I noticed on the other video with Asus laptop that there was dust on the screen in the shape of keyboard. A lot of people have external monitors connected to their laptops, so they keep the lid closed and i was wondering if the extra heat adds up and creates such problems quicker. Keep up the good work!
@amrdaking1

Hi there, majority of laptop (almost all) are having their air intake / fans pulling the air from the bottom, so closing the lid got 0 effect on the temperature. I've been using 2 laptop over 4 years having totally closed lid and connected to an external monitor, and I'm ALWAYS having a program called "HWiFO64" running to monitor my CPU temp, and it's always been normal.

The problem with laptops that have mechanical hard drives, moving the laptop while the disc is spinning, creates forces on the disc, and wear and tear on the disc bearings. There is an experiment, using a spinning bicycle wheel while standing on a swivel platform. depending which way the spinning wheel is tilted, the person will be turn either left or right. The same physics apply to Hard drives. When the device is on, do not move it's position.

Hi, the keyboard-like marks on the displays are caused by physical friction between the keyboard and the display probably due to carrying the laptop in a backpack and the involved vibrations, the screen ends with micro-tears caused by friction, at least in my case that was the reason.

After if its still plugged in cant switch on, if unplug it, it turnes on perfectly. After if you plug in it turns off immediately, or if you wait to battery go down, and plug in later, it starts charging but same thing happens at 25-30%. And the same sircle goes again.... what problem it might be ?

Couldn't the extra solder under the chip bridge other pins when it leaks out? I know in a lot of cases, it clearly comes out with the grouped pins and has no ill effects. But this chip looked like it had multiple places that could bridge and be unseen.

@matteopiacentini325
@matteopiacentini325 Жыл бұрын
It doesn't do that because of flux. Flux keeps the melted solder apart underneath the chip, then it leaks out because of pressure and inevitably end up bridging. You can tell that the soldering was good because the laptop did in fact power on, but without recognizing the CPU. If there would be a short because of bad soldering the laptop PSU would have shut itself off like he was doing before.

Hi, I have kind of a dumb question, but here goes: Why did you decide this laptop was a "no fix" and abandon the repair? Isn't it possible to replace the entire motherboard with a used or refurbished working board? There should be a lot of value in this laptop aside from the motherboard that makes it worth fixing. And a related question: Why it is impossible to solder in a new Intel CPU? Thanks for your great work and useful advice -- I'm just wondering why you declared this unrepairable.

Hmm, this smells after an under dimensioned inductor. The inductor is inductive only until certain frequency and current. If Alienware has used an inductor that barely fits the limits then you have a problem in edge cases when temperature causes the inductor's characteristic to change and then it becomes a short circuit. And short circuit to 12V or 20V or anything to CPU is not good XD

Nice try Alex, pity it wasn't fixable....it looked like the laptop batteries were starting to swell up as well, so better off writing the unit off, I wonder how old it was ?

@@Isekai_Fan 4-5 years, good time to replace it as intended by the manufacturers. $$$

I don't understand one thing. If there's short on the main power line and the cpu is getting hot why bother replacing drmos. The coil is discoloured which means high current was drawing. This for my understanding means the cpu is fried. I'm learning laptop motherboard repair and maybe someone could explain it to me if I'm understanding it right. Great video though !

as repairman he needs to ensure the issue is fact not just assumption that why he charges the repair fee which indicate he did his best to repair the laptop and confirmed no fix. He didn't just look and give conclusion like that (diff between pro & amateur) and charge people later for that and what worst if the laptop suddenly be fixed by other shop then what reputation can he hold. he is doing business here not just for fun.

You need special equipment to resolder the cpus. Also it’s usually not worth the time on all but the most expensive devices

repair cost with cpu change would be higher than buying the same used laptop that is fully functional so it's not worth it

I would think so all be it difficult as it's likely soldered in so it can be done if you can get a working cpu to plop in as a replacement
