Lots of folks saying the fans were dirty - they were fine. The light colouring you're seeing is the metal underside of the keyboard _through_ the fans. There's a little surface dust on the fan blades, sure, but this doesn't block airflow. I don't consider it worthwhile to spend another 30mins removing and opening up the fan housing to carefully detail-clean the rotors. Actual fluff and dust bunnies, those should definitely be cleaned, but none of that was present.

Nope don’t waste your time. If the customer is paying you for the additional cleaning then yes but otherwise nope. You take care of what they asked and that’s it. I learned my lesson one time cleaning a laptop for a X customer. It was so filthy on the outside that it looked like it was rolling in dirt. I cleaned it up like brand new and then the customer accused me scratching the outside of the laptop. It was scratched very badly before I cleaned it and he knew it too but wanted for me to replace the top case for free. That was last free service I did and now all cleaning services are paid for. Customer must agree to the disclaimer and sign on the quote before I start.

I've had to replace ALL PLASTICS on this exact model - the bottom cover was cracked and the LAN port plastic was completely loose, the screen lid had the exact same problem as here, the keyboard was missing 2 keys (W and A) and some other keys were simply not registering a button press.... and sadly, in this model, the keyboard is an integral part of the palmrest. So yeah, the only OG parts left were the motherboard with its cooling, the speakers, touchpad ... and the display with webcam. $350 in parts plus 3 hours of labour. We should've charged the customer a bit more than we did, but seing as the laptop's value was around $700, we thought to cut him a bit of a deal. Fun times.

I've bought from Cambridge Accesories before and would recommend them. Their grading scheme is fair - Grade 'A' will be practically perfect and, in my experience, even grade 'C' components will have some signs of wear but no damage.

My wife body slammed my laptop “accidentally “ and the plastic housing cracked around most of the screws. I probably broke the rest prying it apart. This was the EXACT repair video that I needed. However, it just convinced me that doing it correctly was too much work. I just drilled 10 holes through the back and secured the hinges to the back cover with 8 zip ties. Took like 5 minutes. Now I have the most beautiful red neck gaming rig . . . Until the hinges fail.

Done watching, thank you very much for the informative repair video. I have learned significantly more troubleshooting & repair lessons in this tutorial video and to your other repair videos as well compared to my ENTIRE 4 YEARS OF COLLEGE due to the rotten & outdated standards of education here in the Philippines. I hope you will soon have a mini-series for Schematic & Boardview-free Voltage/Power Rail Tracing[12V/18-20V Main Voltage Rail, 5V, 3.3V, CPU/GPU Core Voltage Rail, DRAM Voltage Rail, IGPU Voltage Rail, System Agent/Northbridge Voltage Rail, PCH Voltage Rail, BIOS Voltage Rail, Battery Power Rail], Proper method of testing/checking of potentially faulty MOSFETs & ICs/Controller Chips, CPU/GPU/PCH Reballing and BIOS Bin File Editing.

Unsure if this is just coincidence, but just got an issue about this laptop just recently. Video is perfect for me! Unsure if it’s the hinges themselves that’s the issue (VERY recently happened & learning about it), but at the least I saw that the latches that snap into place for the lid & bezel, parts of it have snapped. Will take time to see if I can fix it (hopefully it goes successfully), but your video will help immensely.

great, easy to follow video. he didn't miss any steps, no weird jumps or anything. would've been nice to have some text to let us know that the video made a small mistake at the part where you put the wires on incorrectly around the hinges, so that we wouldn't also have to accidentally make the same mistake. However, not a problem and it was an easy fix. thanks for the video

Yes, the manufacturers are just not quite there when it comes to build quality. Balancing build cost/weight/reliability is never quite what you want. If you're aware of the structural weaknesses (and care about it enough) then you can have a laptop last a lot longer. Several guidelines are: - Don't open a laptop hinge when it is excessively cold. Ensure you haven't left something on the keyboard before closing the lid. Never carry a laptop when it's open by the screen section - and so on... These problems were partly negated with things like ruggedization for example in the Panasonic tough-book series. But this comes at a high cost and they generally are a lot heavier than a standard laptop and a lot harder to service. They are also generally purchased for use in much worse environments than a laptop would normally see so they tend not to last longer anyway. Edit: On a personal experience point I would ensure the web-cam PCB is secured and there's a little bit of slack in the cable - they do work loose over time through opening and closing the lid and suddenly the customer has no web-cam.

This happens to loads of our corporate Vostro i5-3510's, all the time. Its a manufacturing defect, but Dell repeatedly deny it and wont replace it under warranty. We've sent s**tloads of the things away for repairs and got more use out of them, but it shouldnt be happening in the first place.

Had the same thing happen today on 12th gen i5 vostro. A month and half out of warranty, just like the last three that did the exact same thing. No more of those for our business. The ones that are still functioning however, I now get them apart and smother the mounts with epoxy resin - warranty be damned, dell aren’t interested anyway

Very nice - Must have cost them a fair bit to get that fixed, but it's worth it. After shopping around for months, (Even considering a micro PC with Ryzen 6800HS for £420), I decided to get an older quality laptop (A Gigabyte Aero 14 with i7 7700 & GTX 1050 Ti for £230), and get it upgraded to WIIN 11 because I don't like the idea that RAM is soldered onto the mother board of modern laptops, especially after paying a fortune for a modern one that's capable of running games. Iv'e got some Thermal Grizzly - Kryonaut but I'm just waiting for a T6 torx to arrive to get the back off, but was unsure about the amount of thermal paste ide have to use - So watching your vid is helpful - Good work, well done.

Dell have had some huge issues with hinges and garbage inserts these past few years haven't they... I don't get what is so hard about it. I even have a Dell with an entirely aluminium chassis but for some idiotic reasons they still attached plastic holding the brass inserts which inevitably cracks, they didn't used to do this before around 2017. Dell do tend to use a 40 pin eDP connector for 120Hz+ displays these days, there are some 120Hz with 30 pin models though.
