Its a standard requirement in the Oil Industry. It probably means that the device is intrinsically safe, i.e., it is safe to use in an environment that contains flammable vapors. A lot of devices like cellphones, cameras, flashlights, walkie talkies etc have to be certified before they can be used on oil Riggs and ships that carry oil for this very reason.

This reminds me of the old Inspiron laptop I had. That thing was as rugged as a brick and the ability to have a CD drive or two batteries was fantastic and something more devices need to do. If only this wasn't so expensive..

I can vouch for the use of the serial port. I used to laugh at motherboards that still come with old ports like that, but I've been taking college-level programming courses and we're learning why they are still useful. We do a lot of stuff with microcontrollers and very low-level code (meaning it's closer to the raw binary with less UI flourish) and on that level USB is a real pain to work with. It's much easier to code with serial ports because it's more... straightforward.

Where I work explosive atmosphere is a serious issue due to working with natural gas on a daily basis. Things have to be intrinsically safe (typically referred to as class 1 div 2) in order to be used on the job site.

XtremeConditions A tablet version is special, I think. But it's more similar to a Laptop i still Use my fathers old Windows 2000 IBM Machine. Water spilled on it so often that it's uncountable, people trowing lightened up cigarettes on it, my sister accidentally ripping the Disc Driver Thingie out. It's not fast and not special in other way but being tough. It's from the time where you thought you're father was good at technology. And now you're fixing his, because "This Website said, I have a Virus" :D But Moms can destroy Tough Books. Every mom can do that.

Explosive Atmosphere is generally an atmosphere with highly flammable environment where the air can literally explode upon a spark. Generally you aren't allowed to carry certain equipment within such zones like electronics since the heat the equipment can sometimes generate enough to lit the gases up causing a chain reaction. So I assume it is has been crafted for such atmospheres as well, for example using it within nuclear facilities as a way of noting different numbers/dates and compile information without having to write it all down/try remember it.

For linus: An explosive atmosphere could be working inside a grain silo collecting data for some reason or other as the dust from the grain can become explosive due to its nature and the amount inside it. dont think you have a grain silo attached to the new building unless you are really into granola.

I think the explosive atmosphere has something to do being safe under operation when there may be dangerous concentrations of flammable gases in the atmosphere. I really dig the dual hot-swappable batteries though. The last time I saw something like that was on an old Macintosh PowerBook G3 my family had while I was growing up in the late 90s. Especially when lately it seems like everyone has been jumping on the long-life built-in/non-user-serviceable battery pack boat.

Explosive atmosphere, probably referring to ATEX, means that if you use this laptop in an area with gas fumes, it won't create any sparks that could blow you up. Very useful if you work in the oil/gas industry.

An explosive atmosphere rating means it can safely be used in volatile environments like gas production (propane,natural gas etc) plants and it won't cause an explosion....a lot of flashlights have similar ratings.

63 degrees is not actual very high. If you are struggling to find shade in Australia on a summer day. 42 degree day. I raised my iphone 4 to 89 degrees C so hot i could not hold it. Devise shut down and would not work but did irreversible damage to the battery. but not as bad as i expected. For divice that i use in the sun regularly i paint white it is amazing how effective it is.

Review Dell Inspiron 15 7559. At 799 it seems the best bang for the buck for a gaming laptop (i7 6700hq and 960m!), but where did they cut the edges?

My first of was a quad core 1.3ghz 4 gig ddr2 Intel ig with a touchpad that was rough. 16 inch 480p screen. I wish I had had this back then, because even a low performance of at that time was better than the 18 year old one I had

I think "explosive atmosphere" means sudden, strong pressure changes. for example: pressure is at sea level and suddenly drops to stratosphere level (a bit over the top with this example)

+Alexander Dubberke In chemistry it means a concentration of gas that can explode if ignited. Not sure why that would ever be relevant, unless you want to use the tablet while escaping from a gas leak....in which case you'd probably ignite the gas by using electronic equipment :D

I work outdoors and burn through tablets and laptops like nobodies business. If this had a little bit higher performance I would buy this in a heartbeat. I'm assuming the less than optimal hardware is due to overheating since its sealed up pretty well

I have to guess explosive atmosphere means that it is capable of handling high pressure sound waves, like from an explosion, or skydiving and moving it from being in your slipstream, to being in the uncut air

My guess for the explosive atmosphere rating is that if there are any highly explosive substances in the air that would detonate because of the smallest spark then this device is tested not to create any. If the usage scenario for this would be like in a first response situation in a chemical plant.
